Back in 2007, the President of Nintendo America said that he wanted to see the N64 classic on the Wii VC and that they were exploring the complex rights issues. Has there been any progress since then? I can't see any reference to it on the Wikipedia pages for either GoldenEye or the Wii VC.

Thanks in advance. :)

I think you'll find it's far more likely to be released on the 360 than Wii.......in fact, I'm pretty certain RARE had almost completed it, but have refrained from releasing it on XBL due to those rights issues.

The rights have properly become even more complicated now that Activision own the Bond license.

I doubt Nintendo would ever let it be released on the 360!

Why? They have about as much to do with Goldeneye as they did Banjo Kazooie.

Yeah I think if it was that simple it would have been done already, they obviously have some rights involved in the whole process.

The only rights issue that is obvious is Activision have the rights to release all Bond related games for X years.

Still doesn't explain exactly why this GoldenEye is any different to Banjo (Aside from MGM). If anyone can explain to me why Nintendo have their claws into this so much and not BK, I would love to hear it.

AFAIK there are two reasons why Goldeneye hasn't come out yet on either Wii VC or XBL ...

1) Rare/Microsoft no longer own the James Bond rights (which means they can't use the Brosnan images, etc)

2) Nintendo don't own the rights to the specific N64 Goldeneye game (similarly Ninty don't own the rights to Perfect Dark or, I think, Banjo)

The Source version is pretty nice though as lettuce mentioned. :)

EDIT: Jesus, everywhere you look is different! The development rights are owned by Rare who is now owned by MS, Activision have the Bond license now so that is why Rare can't release the game on XBLA and MS are demanding too much money from Nintendo to allow Goldeneye to appear on the Virtual Console. Or something. ¬_¬

Does GoldenEye Source work for the Mac?

It is a great shame that these rights issues cannot be resolved. I would love to play the game on the Wii - such good memories from its N64 days!
