Yay!!! I ordered from PLAY, 2x TE sticks and 2x Arcade sticks (1 for 360 and 1 for PS3) Got confirmation from play that they have shipped both Arcade sticks but only the 1 TE stick, booooo!
Still no word from Amazon yet though, which i have another TE stick, game, and 2 pads on order. I dont really want to amend this order as there has been reports as doing so pushes you back to the end of the pre-order que!!!When did you order from Play? When they came on this week, or were they on prior to that?
Got 4 Fightsticks coming from Game, so that's me and my mates (and this weekend's fun) sorted and guaranteed... but I'd really like a TE.

Ooh.....
Ooh.....
what about you's???
light+medium+hard punch are needed for Ken etc ultra combo's.
Ah, I wondered why I couldn't did. After about 20 mins trying ,in a trial mode, I finally managed to do one Shinryuken but couldn't repeat it.
I might have to look into one of these pads.
Oh FFS!!
Sat here at PC happily thinking about when the 360 version shipped from Play.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=2) is going to arrive when I get an email from Sendit.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=72) saying my 360 version had despatched too!!
Looks like I forgot I had it on order with them!!

All just showing as Pre-ordered in my account.
All just showing as Pre-ordered in my account.
When did you place your order?
For anyone waiting on sticks from shopto, you won't be getting them today. I've just been on the phone to TNT. There was a ballsup last night basically and the goods never arrived at the depo in time for delivery. They're going out tonight, with expected delivery tomorrow.
That explains why my order tracking suddenly stopped. Bit naughty of them as they had it as "out for delivery" for a while.
I'm not having much luck with couriers this week, My US ps3 CE made it over from Kentucky to the Midlands early this morning, so I thought I'd have it to play soon. But for some reason it's been shipped back over to the states and is now sitting in Philadelphia :(

My tournament stick was posted from GAME today, along with my game, strategy guide and SE stick. I cannot wait to get this baby, think I am more excited about the daft sticks than the game though lol.
Does anyone know, is there a way for a lobby of people to play this on live? I usually play on Live with 4 of my mates, is there an easy way for us all to play each other? I wondered if there is a knockout option.

Ah pants. Can't seem to get a pad for a reasonable price now and don't fancy playing this with the 360 controller, but it's already been despatched so it'll have to go to CEX. Shame. :(

Well I've ordered a couple of pads. Loathe to spend so much for the sake of just one game, especially as I traditionally suck at Street Fighter, but at least I'll have another one for 2-player action, or if I start to regret buying I can keep one sealed to help minimise the pain incurred.
The thing is, it's hard to knock the 360 control pad as it's amazing for most games, but jeez it's gash for this sorta stuff.

Not sure about 2D shooters, buts its bloody good on SFIV. Been playing this evening trying to master Sagat and with the fight pad i can pull off Tiger uppercuts and knees no probelm

Thats whay i coudn't come on for a fight Mol
Absolutely loving this still, managed to unlock Akuma and Gouken and now in the middle of unlocking Seth. I started playing it around 9pm and have only got it off now
I take it that if you have unlocked other characters such as Sakura/Dan/Rose etc then you don't need to play through with Ryu etc again to go towards unlocking Seth ?
Playing online was great as well, I've just been jumping into Ranked online matches and so far have over 400BP which is good for someone as naff as me! Been winning quite a few matches and most people have been ok apart from one person who disconnected when about to lose and some american teenager **** who was shouting and who unfortunately beat me as well. Luckily I couldn't hear him too much though, I knew he was talking **** from the muffles/screams coming from the tv speakers :D (had my headset unplugged)
I do hope my MadCatz controller arrives soon though, as well as needing the practice for fast combos I was getting spanked from not being able to pull off moves when I wanted too, and because of my own inexperience as well.
My Amazon order has now changed to, 'Items dispatching soon'
My amazon order for PS3 ken pad is preparing for dispatch, hurahh, changing to next day hasn't hurt it and it should be with me tomorrow! Just need to game to arrive.. But that was shipped on Tuesday, so should be here today.
Sadly my 3 year old looks like he might have chicken pox, so that may scupper any SF IV action!
For those that asked for a on-line guide check out http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/jul/08/street-fighter-4-strategy-guide-hints-and-tips/ for a complete list of moves.
Cool, I'll put that in the first post.

Amazon: Ryu pads (on which I recently changed the address) dispatching soon, no movement on my Ken pads (on which I didn't). One of the 2 Tournament Sticks is also dispatching soon, the other is not. I should start cancelling things but I'm sure I could always get rid of spares on here if I need to...
My PS3 Ryu pad just turned up from Play. It's big and has a very solid, quality feel about it. Now to wait on the game from Amazon :)
HURAHHH! Well done gameplay, my collectors edition arrived... And in keeping with Ono's tradition of a gaming related purse in shot I've found my wife's (yes really) Tom Nook DS case.

Will certainly be up for some PSN action tonight and over the weekend. Also got tomorrow off to play it as well. :)

shut yer face.
anyways the game has arrived, and the Chun Li fight pad, so I'm all sorted, apart from Iron Bru and Doritos.
Have to say though, I do feel slightly ripped off by the CE edition. How they can justify an extra £30 for two tiny figures in a window box is beyond me, but like a fool (and they sure knew we would) I bought it. But I'm sure that'll wash over once I get stuck into the game.
oh and there's the film as well, but it's not even full length.

I wish compaines would stop using that impossibly sealed packaging though. I'd place bets that people have injured themselves trying to get the pads out. Had to use a pair of scissors on the pad box myself - no harm done though :)
I hate that clamshell packaging, should be banned from stuff ordered online, plus kids toys screwed in and cable tied to within an inch of it's life. DRIVES ME MAD!!
I just got this game yesterday and the online features don't seem to work at all? I have it on the PS3 and it's installed. I can see the rankings of people but when I try to create match it says FAILED. Also it NEVER can find ANY matches when I do quick match in RANKED or FRIENDLY games..
Anyone else having the same problem? I didn't think I'd need to wait till Friday when it's properly released in the UK as everyone in Japan and USA seems to be playing it online?

Just had a 5 min go on this in HMV with the normal 360 pad, and it was quite difficult to pull off anything other than the normal moves.
I'm interested to hear from SF pad users how easy it is to throw using light punch + light kick.
And how easy it is to use focus as well... medium punch + medium kick
Are they easy to pull off?
NNNNNNNooooooooo i've just got home and the postie has been. He's left me a form saying it needed to be signed for and i have to wait 48 hours before i can collect it. :brickwall:mad::cry:

Do you mean people using the Street Fighter Madcatz pads or just Street Fighter players who use a pad? If the latter, the throwing is a bit weird at first, but since I've played a lot of Soul Calibur and Tekken, it became second nature after a while. I did try using the focus attacks (which are easy enough to pull off) but I've not found a huge use for them as yet and I have so far relegated the mediums to L1 and L2: reachable but not ideal (I moved 3xP and 3xK to R1 and R2 respectively for easier access to the ultras).
As time goes on I will not doubt integrate the focus attacks into my game so may revisit my button layout.

The training challenge is pretty tough. I got to the third one and having trouble pulling off cammy's heavy punch into canon spike. Seems like a very small window to link into. Will go back to it later though.
And I think a lot of you are gonna hate Seth's guts. He really is a dreadful creation who pretty much ruins the single player experience. You have challenging matches with the other characters and get through them OK, and more importantly it's fun, but this guy is nuts - very frustrating.

Sucks that the SE stick gets a move list and the TE doesn't.
Can anyone tell me if their turbo buttons work? I presume the top left is meant to light up to show what level turbo you're on. nothing lights up on mine. Don't intend to use it for SF but shoot 'em ups.
so online works now.. still not many people online.. but if you play the arcade mode.. its hard to get through one match without someone challenging you.. which I think is great :)
Loving it so far.. but yes the PS3 pad isn't ideal as its hard to focus attack if you place the med kick punch buttons on the trigger pads like i do.. as i love my fierce attacks.. but not had cramp so far! :)
Got 600 BP too! haha... which I love.. trying to build as much as I can before more people come online on friday!

I'm almost a complete SF noob (never had a Nintendo back in the day) and terrible at fighting games but I'm finding the regular 360 pad not that bad. I've only played as Sagat & Ken so far but I could pull off their moves quite easily the majority of the time with both the d-pad and the analogue, I prefer the analogue stick though. Hopefully my fightpads will get here soon and prove me completely wrong. Looking at the pics of the TE stick I wish I'd gone for one of those now :luv: but probably a bit overkill for a beginner.
P.S. This is awesome. How has no-one said that yet? I looked like this: :D when I got my first Super Combo Finish. For anyone else that's a complete beginner Ken is your best friend
me and my mate both got out PS3 copys from play today, had a quick blast online after work good stuff. Need to learn some moves now.

It's not too bad actually, better than Alpha Generations at least. I've seen some complaints about the lack of fights in it, but it has a decent plot (as far as street fighter goes) so I didn't mind the lack of fights.

Quick note for PS3 users, Street Fighter 4 features the option of custom soundtracks. Just press the PS button while the game is playing and you can play any music off your PS3 hard drive. I copied the Street Fighter Tribute album released a few years ago and I'm fighting to that soundtrack, it's pretty cool. Hopefully more games will use this method so it's more universal and acts more like the custom soundtrack on the 360.
I noticed on my move list - aren't the Ken super and ultra wrong? Shouldn't they be two shoryukens, not two hadokens?
Nope it's 2 Hadokens...
And very lovely when it comes off two.
I've got a nasty focus move that can result in a 19 hit combo when I hit it.

Staggeringly good game BUT unplayable on anything but the TE stick for me, tried the normal 360 pad and a PS3 pad but the pain after a few rounds is shocking.
So get it, but get a stick as well otherwise you'll be crippled!

Such a great game, SF as I remember it, but sucky sucky with just the standard joypad, will have to invest in a stick - what are the odds of any being available to buy in any store tomorrow?
Oh, and Abel is a cheap cheap ****! lol.
Amazing game, played arcade for a bit and unlocked Sakura and Gen, then turned on allow interuptions and played 10 ranked matches won 5 lost 5 so decided to quit whilst even. Stuck to a keep the pressure on game with Blanka, although I was trying to beat Seth in single player but was interrupted by real people (annoying it can happen mid fight as I had Seth beaten a few times only to be interrupted)... No lag at all on any of the matches (PS3 Version).
As a bit of a veteran I felt very held back by the ps3 pad, hitting about 80% of moves but when they botch it can cost me the match. Not mastered the Ultra's or supers yet, just getting my feel for it again, but loving it. It just feels perfect, hopefully new pad tomorrow will make those last few strands connect, if not I have my Hori stick (but I think I am better on the pad, I'm unbeatable on SF Alpha 2 on the Saturn and this pad looks similar).

Don't exaggerate. Many of us have been playing Street Fighter since the SNES days, through the Alpha's, EX's and various other iterations on the PS1 and PS2 and HD Remix on the PS3 and 360 and while the PS3 pad is far preferable to the 360 one for this kind of work, some people have even managed to use the analog stick on the 360 to a workable degree.
"Get a stick or you'll be crippled"? Ha! Spend another what, £70-120 on a stick for a game that costs £30-40?! Maybe you can't play it without an arcade stick but recommending people to spend in many cases more than double the cost of the game just to play it is ridiculous and simply untrue for the vast majority of us. Get some perspective man: yes, playing the game at a decent level on the 360 on the standard pad is probably an exercise in futility but the Madcatz pads are a great alternative by most accounts. The PS3 pad is more than usable for the game as is, although again the Madcatz pads are again a good alternative without having to resort to shelling out for a stick.

Unlocked everyone but Seth now, would be up for some matches if you're up for it Adge old chap. :)

Are the sticks (both varieties) and the pads limited edition or will they reappear in stock some time in the future when Capcom/Madcatz produce more stock?
Theres some amusing prices for these items on ebay at the moment:lol:

I, like many I'm sure, didn't get round to pre-order the stick or the pad. Are they making anymore?
Erm, I just rechecked my TE order history at Powerplay Direct (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=70). I said that they had canclled my sticks but it seems they haven't and they are still both sitting on "Pre-order" at £97.99 each.
The cancellations I saw were ones I did when I was procratinating about buying them
I'll leave them on there for a few weeks - but I already ordered one for £157 from Madcatz :( and have 2 SE sticks on order.
Couple that with the PS3 version of the game and 2 copies of the 360 version and I am looking at a cash outlay of:
2 x TE = £194
1 x TE = £157
2 x SE = £140
PS3 version = £35
2 x 360 version = £55
Total cash outlay = £581

Very impressive spend there Ono for a game that you will play like twice. Are you looking to make a killing on eBay (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=44)?
Ono, you make me feel better about my spending spree :p
I've been using the standard 360 analogue stick and I've managed to have some great matches with a mate over LIVE. It's not ideal but it's not _unplayable_ like some have said. The game is really forgiving with special moves, I was even able to pull off the annoying DB, DF, DB, UF motion for Vega's ultra.
Wouldn't like to go up against someone with a proper controller though ;)

No, my PS3 version (bought for £35) is earmaked for a work colleague at £20.
My spare 360 version is going in the classifieds here when I get it.
If I get all the TE sticks - will flog the £157 one here for RRP and keep my 2 cheaper TEs (though I still doubt they will arrive)
The SE stick(s) will be kept as a spare MAME stick maybe :D

Just been playing with my trusty Hori stick I've had for a couple of years.
Guy comes on as Akuma whilst I'm Ken (I'm always Ken).
He keeps lobbing air bloody fireballs at me so everytime I see him jump, I dragon punch him out the sky...and top it off with an ultra to win.
2nd round he doesn't move then I get a message...checked the message...
"SPAM MUCH!"
He has 0 skill points...
Did I cheat or break some SF etiquette?

You get folk like that ignore it there is no wrong or right way to play plus Akuma players are the worst of the bunch and you should enjoy every victory against them.

Obviously a hypocrite if he kept spamming fireballs. You know, it can be annoying when someone does the same move. Earlier a guy beat me using blanka. all he did was cannonballs and electric shocks. At the end of the day though if I can't defend against that I'm at fault and I chalk it down to a learning experpience and try to practice against that type of attack. People even moan if you corner them. It's not impossible to get out of of.
The TE stick really is the ********. I've adjusted to it amazingly well and have no trouble with any moves. Look forward to putting many many hours into this.
I know Ken isn't the best character, but God I love his Dragon punch...
Even his Ultra is easily blocked, but that means I've got to work that much harder to beat better characters.
Sagat is a sod, but I'm having to relearn all my tactics against him and I've done alright so far.
I'm just waiting to see what happens when I fight Gouken...not played him yet.
 :notworthy  http://darkzero.co.uk/game-news/street-fighter-iv-figures-recalled-due-to-breathtaking-typo/
I was looking at it and couldn't spot what was so funny, and then I saw it and have been sniggering constantly for the last 2 minutes. This game really has de-evolved me back to a teenager!
God I hate this game! I knew I wasn't great but this is mental.
I've just been learning all of Ken's moves, been through the training and challenges etc... for my first two fights I was doing well, getting most of the big moves out. But it just doesn't matter, every time I get to C.Viper I'm screwed.
Virtually every move/combo I do she either blocks or gets me with the flaming legs, the electric bolt and that damn earthquake move. If I do get a groove going she takes the damage, and finishes me off with a Hyper move.
And is it normal for them to knock you down, imediately stand over you until you get up and then pummel you straight back down within a half second? I thought there used to be a momentary delay before they can start attacking again.
Zangief is a beauty, he did the same spinny-up-in-the-air-then-sit-on-my-head move 4 times in a row!! As soon as my character stood up, he did it again, and again, and again. Blocking didn't work and I couldn't get away or any moves! This is all on Medium! :?: I guess I have to hang my head and drop to the easy level.

I think there is a command that you press when your knocked to the floor (just before you hit the floor) that make your character get up quicker, hence not getting dicked on when your about to get up from being floored

Was gonna ask how the difficulty was on this, on SSIIHD the normal setting kicked my ass once I got near Sagat or Bison, is this on easier or harder than the remix in general?
I got home about an hour ago and my copy was waiting for me. My fight pad hasn't arrived yet so I've just had a go with the Xbox pad and... I HATED it.
The pad is so unreliable/imprecise that I end up jumping instead of dragon punching/fireballing half of the time. For this reason I was really stuck against a CPU controlled Honda as he was using the same technique over and over again.
So far the game seems quite tough to me, even on standard difficulty (three stars?) but I guess I'll be in a better position to comment when I have played with another pad. Either way I'm sure I was much better as a kid, I seem to keep getting smothered at the moment.
I was just having a play through and went through about six or seven characters, first had some trouble with Balrog, then Honda, then as I was getting close to beating Honda my batteries went and before I could replace them I was beaten and the ten second counter ended my game for me. Grrrrrr.:razz:
I need to get up to speed with the focus attacks etc as I was using them willy-nilly. The game looks really nice though and its well presented, but I'm not sure I care about the animated movies that keep appearing.
Oh and that sodding menu music is stuck in my head, I'm off to bed now singing "in-deee-stuctable". :oh-hum:
Amazon emailed me this evening to let me know my pad has been shipped so I'm kind of hoping to have it over the weekend if possible.
If anyone wants some games then please feel free to add me if you haven't already, currently I'm playing horribly though, I'm kind of hoping that the fight pad will go some way towards helping with that. :help:

I'm getting fed up with this already as it is stupidly hard against the CPU, who seems to be able to pull out every combo and special move and canes you in seconds while you do deaconism on the pad.

Heh, and you played SF2 in the 90's too didn't you?
You should have seen snoddy back in the day ;)
anyhoo, I've been playing this for the past day and reckon there's a hell of a lot of people out there that are possibly playing SF for the first time - it's not Soul calibur and all about specials , the light and medium switches are what it's all about for me. You can really ruin someone's rythym (especially CPU) by alternating the power / speed.

No championship mode on launch day (http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2009/feb/19/championship-mode-expansion-update-no-timeframe-spectators/)
When will the Championship mode expansion pack be released for Street Fighter IV? I thought it was supposed to be available at launch?
Sven: Championship mode was never planned for launch. The whole purpose of that pack is that they were features we wanted to have the whole community have access to but didn't have time in the base development schedule to complete.
So now, it's time to complete those features, which is what the team has been working on since original submission was approved in January (that and the PC Sku).
Why is there no spectator support in SFIV?
Sven: I'll better be able to address this in a few weeks... can't say more than that right now.
For now, the team is focused on the PC SKU and the Championship update. Beyond that, I can't comment. I will say Spectator modes/lobbies not part of either of those pieces of content.
What difference does it make which country owns the rights to Street Fighter and Final Fight? — del.icio.us
Sven: It has pretty massive ramifications on financial issues (specifically who pays for and who profits or loses from the use of said IP... be it in new games or licensing, etc.).
It also has issues over who has creative control of the property (e.g. who decides to do what products, what form they take.) So for example, in SFIV, that project was completely funded and initiated by Capcom USA. Capcom USA opted to engage Capcom Japan to run the development of the project. We had to approve all proposed direction and milestones. Etc.
For consumers, I don't suspect it makes much difference in the end result.
Is there a time and a place for light/medium attacks? In the older games heavy attacks, throws, and specials were pretty much all that was needed.
Errr, whats this Championship mode content?, you can already play as the bosses cant you??
Is there a time and a place for light/medium attacks? In the older games heavy attacks, throws, and specials were pretty much all that was needed.
Yep still a place for light/medium attacks as they will beat harder attacks in speed and can launch you into an attack or force someone to block which can then open them to the throw.

Light/mediums are essential for links & combos; definitely worthwhile incorporating them into your game so you can mix it all up.
Did I cheat or break some SF etiquette?
Certainly not - only really good Akuma players use anything but the most basic tactics, so more power to you I think :)
well i've fired this up this morning on the ps3 , and there is a little update for it , anyone know what for ?
As I was heading out of the door this morning the postman was just bringing me a box from Amazon. I opened it up quickly and it was my Ken fight pad.
On initial inspection pad looks good to me, the d-pad feels large and precise. The gamepad feels comfortable to hold, I was a bit worried from some of the pictures beforehand that it might be a bit large and cumbersome, but it actually feels quite ergonomic.
I'm looking forward to actually trying it now, sadly I have to go out this evening straight after work. It's always the way when a game I'm actually looking forward to arrives! :dork::)

Watched the anime today, though it was pretty good actually. Not much in the way of fights and the story is a tad silly, but it's told well enough as it shows how some characters have moved on since the old tourny days. Worth watchign it before playing the game so you get at least some idea of a few new characters.
Stuff arrived from Amazon today, will have a go later.

I too had a go on this last night, loved every moment (apart from fighting Seth - incredibly hard with ridiculous powers and special moves). Played it using my HORI arcade stick and was able to pull off most moves I wanted playing as Ryu or Ken (the only characters I used). Went on Live expecting to have my ass handed to me on a plate, but surprisingly managed to win all three of the online bouts I participated in, right result! I couldn't find any players to fight with green connection bars, but had no problems with any lag in the fights I did have. Great fun!

They'd be mad not to make some more of these available considering the demand, yet somehow I still doubt it. I don't think anyone knows for sure at this point.
I'm not even bothering to buy this game until I've got a fightpad/stick! Totally missed the boat with all of these.
Hmm, already bought the 360 game, but have managed to get local shop to hold their last PS3 stick for me at 69.99, so I'll have to buy the game again, am I really gonna spend all this cash? I guess if I don't get on with it I should be able to shift it for little loss...
Unless nils helps me out of course!
I don't like the madcatz pad, it's got a far too wobbly d-pad making it hard to pull off a lot of the moves, it's not that much different than the PS3 pad, so I'm sending it back.
I'm back on my Hori stick, and winning more often with it. Getting some great online matches with no lag at all, loosing to a lot of Akuma's who just do fireball after fireball and was playing Balrog for a while who struggles against a barrage of projectiles in the corner, pulled off a few awesome ultra resversals turning the match around at the last second.
Awesome awesome game, but not such an awesome pad. I was hoping for it to be like the saturn pad, but it's not really.
Arrived this morning.
Good game, but after playing DOA 4 it seems a bit basic.
For example, with Ryu I find there's nothing that a jumping heavy kick followed by a heavy sweep can't fix. With an occasional fireball and dragon punch thrown in. This was fine back in the day, but...
And how the hell do you throw? It certainly isn't how the move list describes it. I get close and push towards and heavy punch and I er, punch.
Oh, and are the ultra combo's all three punch buttons, or punch three times? Either way can't do them with the normal pad.
LP+LK - Throw
MP+MK - Focus
HP+HP - Taunt
Does anyone else struggle to think of varied moves so you don't appear cheap? There only seems to be four or five required. I have to make myself tap light punch now and again.
Well Sendit confounded expectations and actually sent me the game for launch day. I assumed that as they'd posted it from the Channel Islands late Wednesday I'd be lucky to get it on Monday, but nope - here it is.
Now, do I play it with the terrible 360 pad or wait until Tuesday/Wednesday for my TE stick from Gameshark? Hmmmmm.
Awesome awesome game, but not such an awesome pad. I was hoping for it to be like the saturn pad, but it's not really.

I was looking at them but typically they don't work with the 360 but do work with the PS3 :)

Ohhh, I did not know that... Might have a look at those, but for now my Hori stick is doing well, the only move I struggle with is the double fireball move for Ryu's Ultra's and Supers, I think it's timing rather than hitting the right points as it's hit and miss is I pull it off.

My CE on the PS3 arrived yesterday so put in a few hours. I'm loving it so far - still got that classic SF2 feel but the new characters, focus attack and EX moves add some nice complexity.

I caved in and bought the game with no fightstick or fightpad - although there was a TE stick for £150 in my local Gamestation....took one hell of a lot of willpower to resist! I would've gone for a regular stick at £100, but £150 is where I draw the line.
It's a ******* awesome game though, I've only played it for an hour using a regular 360 controller and it's already exceeded my expectations!! & shockingly enough I can pull off dragon punches and hadouken's almost every time (only played as Ryu so far) - the 360 pad is far, FAR from ideal but it doesn't render the game unplayable as I thought it might.

No, it's towards, down, towards-down+punch it's a bit of an art at first but once you get used to it it's second nature.
Maybe worth doing the trials in challenge mode to get used to the moves, I've been doing them some of the new characters to see how they work.

not such an awesome pad. I was hoping for it to be like the saturn pad, but it's not really.
i was really hoping it would be more like a saturn pad too :( but i'm actually finding it better than a saturn pad for streetfighter, (used a saturn pad on my mate's ps3 version), but still wish it was more like a saturn pad as i mainly wanted it for 2d shooters.

The game is unplayable enough without giving players the wrong moves!
How is it unplayable?
I'm crap at these games but using the 360 analogue i can pull off the move i want to 9 times out of 10. My fightpad was delivered from Amazon this morning and after about an hour of playing SFIV & HD Remix I actually find the 360 pad easier to use.

why is this game unplayable? ive only got the 360 pad, and that feels fine as a gaming device to me. Ive not used a stick, but i doubt that will make a big difference to someone who isnt wanting to spend most their life on this game. I've never read so much fuss over one game, and joysticks ever, its bonkers.

Man, this game is hard... can somebody give me some help:
1) Charge moves - how long do you need to charge them for? (e.g Sonic Boom with Guile)
2) How on earth do I do a revenge move?! I've tried so many times with so many characters and it just wont work! For example, i can do chun-li's special (very infrequently), but her revenge requires three kicks at the end instead of one, and i cannot under any circumstances get this to work!
3) How do i block it when someone starts to do a revenge move - doesnt seem what i do, it wont block!
Thanks in advance

1) Hold away (for Guile's Sonic Boom) or down (for Guile's Flashkick) for 1.5-2 seconds. Those are the charges. In Guile's case, holding diagonally away and down will charge both moves.
2) Revenge moves are easiest to do when you use the LP+MK+HK bind. It means all 3 punches (or kicks) together, not to tap punch or kick 3 times at the end of the movement.
3) During the ultra start up where the camera zooms in there isn't really much of a window to do anything, consider it a dramatic pause for effect more than anything. :)

Guess it's just a case of practice (and finding the character i'm best with). I'm finding even easiest difficulty a bit of a challenge at times at the moment (especially when it comes to Seth)

That's the trajectory your finger takes, it's a good way to explain it.
Starting from the centre position:
-- = push forward (finger east)
/ = diagonally down and away (finger now south) to be bottom of the pad
-- + punch = forward again (finger now south east) and hit a punch button (or 2 for an EX move (but I'm getting ahead of myself here))
I know it seems hard, feel for us old school players who had to work it out from the SNES manual with no internet to assist.
Decided not to wait until the TE stick turned up and have been playing it with the 360 pad. While the pad is not perfect, It's certainly playable and the game is a lot more forgiving than Street Fighter 2 HD on XBLA.
Not dared onto live yet though. Might need some more practice before I try that.
You can block ultra combos as well...
Just pull back and pray...
I've also dragon punched Ryu as he was doing his one...but you can jump over it as well.

Projectiles will usually work outside the few frames of invincibility, I've managed to counter it a few times online today using EX Sonic Booms, but I guess any projectile should work. Or just jump over the bugger. :)

Easy in first round, then he goes all power crazy. Stand near him and he'll do spinning drop everytime and then that ridiculous move where he sucks you into his belly. Is there any difference between Ken and Ryu? I remember playing a lot of SF2 in the arcades during the early 90's and never really noticed any difference, even though I usually picked Ken. When I got SF2 on the Megadrive, the only difference I noticed (or imagined) was there dragon punch was slightly different:shrug:
In Alpha IIRC Ryu's hurricane kick only hit once, and Ken's hit several times (or something like that)
They are very similar, it's just a few subtle differences

Mostly Ryu's Specials are knockdowns with more damage, Ken's generally hit more times but do less damage, though better for combos.

Just wanted to chime in and say I love the game. However, what isn't so hot for me (perhaps due to my poor 2meg connection) is the online side of things for the PS3. I don't see many matches to choose from in the list, and when I do, most bars are empty, with occassional orange 3 bar strength - and rarer still I might be lucky to find a yellow 4 bars. But connecting to those games quickly enough is a pain as usually someone beats me to it. Yellow 4 bar makes for a decent match though. Haven't yet seen a green 5 bar - do they exist?

Cool pic. I see that's a Prima Strategy guide in the middle - is it the US or UK print? I have the UK one on order.
Anyone received there Fightpad from Amazon?

Just spent a few hours on this and have to say I love it it is all that I hoped it would be and more. If there is any criticisms is that the moves are way to easy to pull of and you end up doing canceling normals into specials without even trying which takes some of the skill away. Even with a 360 pad.
The only reason i put it of was because I have been up since 6 am and want to get up early to go collect my TE stick from the City Link depot in the morning.
Can the OP start collating peoples tags on the first post and sort them via PSN and Live?

Same here, out of my 40 odd matches, at least 30 of them have been ken's. People really need to start using other characters. Dont think i have come across anyone using any of the new characters.

3) During the ultra start up where the camera zooms in there isn't really much of a window to do anything, consider it a dramatic pause for effect more than anything. :)I disagree - there's plenty of time to block unless you're mid-move or jump. Kind of makes up for how easy they are to pull off though - to really use them you need to drop them into combos.
Help! Help! Help!
1) I know that to get up quickly from a knockdown you push down on the d-pad before you hit the ground. But if you miss it and have to get up at normal speed - how do you defend against the opponent when they just stand over you and clobber you the micro second you get stand up???
2) If both characters attempt an aerial attack and one loses. How does the loser execute a move, an Ultra combo for example, in the time between when you get hit and when you land on the ground?
Or is this feat only available to the AI?
Anyone else going to try and master the "focus attack, dash cancel"?

Newer IGN vid on focus cancelling:
http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14211549/street-fighter-iv/videos/ignstrategize_SFIV_021809.html
It's such a multi-layered work of genius.
It doesn't rely on overtly complex movesets to remember, all the tools are at your disposal up front and it's how you cleverly use them, you can rely on timing with focus attacks anticipating the first strike and then responding or pile in with the pressure on changing tempo from light to heavy attacks, or something completely of your own making. There are so many ways to play creatively.
The new characters are very interesting Abel and El Fuerte having moves that can twist mid flow building alongside the existing foundations of the Charge and Shoto characters.
That's why it frustrating online to face Ken or Akuma over and over again doing fireball after fireball after fireball. I find the creative expression of playing more fun than playing in a repetitive way repeatedly to chase down the win.

If you create a match (I think it's the custom option) you get the option to send an invite to people on your friends list.
Talking of new characters, I played someone who was using a tasty Abel last night (a nice break from playing Ken anyway) - gave me a good working over.

There is pretty much the same amount of time to hold block as there would be in normal game play assuming you're neutral and as you say not mid move. That is what I mean when I say there isn't much time to do anything, time in effect stops during that pause but it doesn't stop you readying block if you can as you would in normal gameplay (I didn't word it very well). Some of them are very tough to combo, I tend to use some of the ultras to punish on block an attack, Dan's for example. You can be ready to input your own ultra during the pause though and treat it like a knock down, finishing the move on the first frame time unpauses although it's a little fuzzy on what overrides what.
2000+ Battle Points now! Not running into much decent competition though and I'm only getting a few points each win. Mainly playing with Guile, followed by Sagat and then Ken but so many damn Ken's online, I feel as though I shouldn't main him and he's been my main for 15 years. :(
Great game though! :D

Just got myself a TE from Gamestation :D When I get bored of the game I'll probably still be able to sell it for more than I payed, so it's all good
I love playing as Ken because he's a flashy git...
But online most games just degenerate into who can chuck out their moves the quickest.
It's not hard to dodge a dragon punch as you can just block it and nail them on their way down.
And you can dodge fireballs pretty easily...and it's easy to hit someone easily enough if they keep throwing them.
I have my live set to play people with a higher ranking than me and get a lot of differing characters like Sagat, Cammy and Blanka.
But my problem is I can't be arsed to fight Seth time and time again to unlock any characters...
I really want to play as Gouken, but unlocking the characters seems soul destroying.

And not only that, it's really hard! On the bright side it is giving me an opportunity to try different characters, and managed to win my first live game with Zangief (all be it i was a bit move-spammy, which i HATE)

Don't worry about spamming anything - I try & adapt my game to every opponent, looking for attacks that they can't deal with. If you're opponent can't cope with you 'spamming' a move, more fool them.

Man, why is Ryu's Ultra combo so lame compared to other, thats got me really bummed!!
It's to be used differently to say Ken's I'd guess. Dhalsim's seems pretty lame as well but I'm guessing they're designed to be used in a different context to some of the other moves. Ken's and Sagat's in particular seem really powerful but I get the impression that in a combo you may be able to match the damage using Ryu's ultra. It's also slightly safer on miss and much safer on block which may account for part of it: Ken's ultra leaves you wiiiiiiiide open for anything when it is blocked for example, Ryu's ultra being blocked doesn't really give an opening despite the long recovery time as the 8 or so hits of the ultra fireball being blocked give ample time to recover.
Also the other reason is that Ryu sucks and Ken is the man!
Good to see this headset chat was up and running yesterday, must have been on the patch.
Also thank you capcom for allowing custom soundtracks on the PS3, cant beat abit if Baltimora - Tarzan Boy while kicking some ass.

GAY GAY GAY! :|
Its not so much the ultra move itself, its more so the fact that its just the same damn move as his super (just more hits), didnt Ryu have a Hurricane super in Alpha or something, just thought they could of add more
variety between the super and ultra for Ryu.
Ryu's ultra is great if you are close and also great if someone jumps into it.
But it's also very easy to jump over and Ryu take's yonks to recover from it.
ken's ultra is great but is easily blocked and only effective if close in as well.
I'm up to 699 points on live now and was practising last night with my mate and had some great strategic battles.
We've had a double knockout as well which was funny.

Yeah the super hurricane kick thing, he still has a version of that as an EX move, a bit like his red fireball being an EX move not a special move. The ultras tend to be almost like more dramatic and extended versions of the supers from what I can see bar a few cases (I think I remember Rose's being totally different for example). The only thing I can remember Ryu missing is really that filthy super dragon punch that Gouken now has: the three huge hits, the Shin Shoryuken (True Dragon Punch I think it translates to). His super is a toned down version of that iirc.

Looks like a purse to me.
Zangief's spinning piledriver is a lot easier to pull off on this than it was in the snes days. I'm thinking this is down to the 360 stick and as such could be the only move easier! Is it a nightmare again on a fight pad?
Rotations are easier with a stick aren't they.
The hardest move I can just about do so far is Guile's Ultra.

Might try some Live latter on and start earning them battle points and annoy everyone by being Ken
Had some matches against, tobiasboon, I thought I was quite good, but he is very good (they must have been tougher oppenents in his street on the SNES days)... He handed my arse to me... But was an excellent and versatile player, I lost fairly and squarely to be superior player (the only time I did win he kindly picked Dan).
Must be my battered Hori stick, anyone want to sell me one of the 6000 extra sticks you lot have ordered? I'm seriously looking for an upgrade!
But after this, going back and playing against the great unwashed I got a win streak of 9 (just missed 10 due to a very good sagat player)... My biceps ache (as not using to playing on a joystick) but my love affair with this continues onward! BEST GAME EVER!!!
I'll be chuft when I can tag ultra's onto combos. Just not composed enough at the moment.
I'm thinking focus attack then ultra when opponent is stunned.
My gamer tag is chrisdark360 if anyone fancies a game.

I'm having trouble with the timing for Ken's third challenge, the one where you have to Hard Kick then Hadouken. Is there some sort of perfect timing needed or am I even more of a biff than I thought?
I've just finished unlocking all the characters (with the exception of Seth) and been having a little bit of a play with Gouken and Akuma as I've never really used them much before.

Thanks Pythons for the matches earlier.
Strange thing about online is that my connection is playing up when it comes to accurate pings. On the PS3 version I at least saw some coloured bars for latency, but on the 360 version, every single ping on quick and custom search (ranked and player match) was empty with the white symbol is flashing.. ?
When I invited Pythons to a private game that was the only time I saw a yellow 4 bar connection. Funnily enough, I just randomly played some zero bar connections and there was not much lag at all. On the PS3, what is stated tends to be the case of the connection speed, ie, if I joined a zero bar room, the lag would be horrendous, so zero bars on 360 and still playbale is quite a mystery.. It's confusing though, cos without seeing a ping for the game, I've no idea what I'm entering into..
Is anyone else having this "ping bug" on 360?

I'm having some real mixed games on live. Whenever I host a room I can usually get a good connection, but if I join anyone in ranked games it usually goes to ****. I can't tell who has a good connection, though I presume it should show up to the right of the screen. All I see is a symbol that sometimes blinks.

You might already know this, but in this type of combo you need to start pulling back for the Sonic Boom the second after you've left the ground to jump towards your opponent. Then release and punch button when needed.

Ignore my post earlier about not seeing any bars. I realised that I can get yellow 4 bars in my search list as long as I first search under "stabilty". I had thought that by selecting "any" it would list just about everything, but the opposite is true it seems. I should have really searched by stabilty in the first place. I believe the PS3 version did show some colour bar connections under "any", but I'd have to check.
