Sony DAV-S500 or Pioneer NS-DV55? Views on either please

Torn between the two and need personal reviews from you guys.

I've an NS-DV55 and it's really nice for the price. The Sony S500 wasn't around when I bough my Pioneer. The equivalent Sony model at the time was the S300 and the NS-DV55 kicked its butt big time! Can't speak for the replacement S500 though.

BTW, the DV55 has now been replaced by the DV77 & DV88, so you should be able to pick up the DV55 and stupid low prices (even Dixons are now selling them at £499)

dont have either, but the sony gets repeated excellent reviews, though would be better to go up a notch and get the 800 model (prices vary quite wildly on it so hunt around).

i'm an avid fan of the DV55, and was well known on these forums for praising them... and yep back then, it was the clear winner..
the 77 model has come out, and search the bargain forum, for a member's only link to www.upgradeheaven.com, who are selling for 500 quid!!!! :eek: and if it's as good as my DV55, then i can't see you being dissapointed. I know 3 people who got one after seeing my DV55, they too are well chuffed with it.

The only bad point being no RGB... but that's really it. I mean S-Video is just as good, but doesn't have the advantage of auto-switching etc... so i don't know if the Sony has it, but certainly a factor to consider.

Eitherway, can't see anyone being dissapointed with either Pioneer models... excellent picture quality, jaw dropping sound, and more than enough features... :)

i think the sony is s-video only as well, but not sure 100%.

The sony does NOT have scart. Both have the same connections, with the Pioneer having a couple more for good luck

Go for the NSDV88 for Upgrade Heaven. An absolutely gorgeous system to look at and the sound (DTS/DD5.1) is stunning.

The remote is rubbish quite frankly but that is the only (minor) complaint I have with mine.

Gots me an NSDV-55 from Upgrade heaven.
Sound is superb.
The mod from upgrade heaven is great, plays R4 Final Fantasy with out any problems.
Best thing is, wife approves since it looks nice and is easy to drive.
May only be s-video output, but i can live with that.
Picture looks very sharp on my hitachi w/s telly.

I bought an NSDV55 of the strength of TJs revue and I have been nothing but impressed by it

t3 february issue has a readers roadtest of the sony dav800, pioneer ns-dv88 and denon av-f100 if that is any use ( I know its not the models u were on about).
sony comes out top on sound quality and all 3 pretty equal on picture. that is only the person who tested it personal opinion of course.
