View Full Version : [DVD] Britannia Carry On Bargain - VICTORY AT LAST!
Well, it was a long fight, but I won in the end:
Carry On Ultimate Box Set from Britannia for ony £33.76 (rrp approx £100).
First started a thread about this way back in September when it appeared on the Britannia site for £39.99 + £1.47p&p.
I was one of those who got fed a load of different stories and bull and ended up with my order "disappearing" and my accout showing £6.23 in credit.
Not to be defeated I sent an eMail complaint in mid-November. As expected nothing happened so I sent a chaser mid-December. Mid January, after still hearing nothing, I sent a recorded letter addressed to the Chairman and let go with both barrels.
Couple of days later his secretary 'phoned - couldn't apologise enough. Of course they'll send me the box set at the originally advertised price and to compensate I can pick a FREE DVD from the brochure she'll send me. Cool.
Brochure arrives - ring her up - "Can I have Pearl Harbor?" Er, sorry out of stock. "Well," says I, "my second choice was a box set (Blackadder Complete Collection), don't suppose you'll let me have that instead". She has a think. Oh, go on then!!
I almost fell off my chair!!!
Three quarters of an hour ago a nice chap arrived from White Arrow with my Ultimate Carry On Box Set. Checked my account on-line - £33.76 outstanding (£39.99 less £6.23 - no postage charge even!!).
Just waiting for the Blackadder box set to arrive (processed a week after the Carry On box set so should be with me sometime late next week).
ADDENDUM - THE BLACKADDER BOX SET ARRIVED THIS MORNING (13/2) WITH AN INVOICE FOR THE PRINCELY SUM OF £0.00

Received my Carry On boxset at start of January for £39.99.
All i did was send a letter to ASA who contacted them on my behalf and received a reply from the Managing Director of Britannia, Tony Kane, honouring my original order!!!!:) :D
Moving to Supplier Forum :)
Good to see a result, still fighting them on this set which I have but also a bill for £100 which of course I'm not paying.
Do any of you guys have a screenshot of the webpage showing this at £39.99?

I doubt whether they'd accept this as 'evidence' as it can easily be faked (by editing HTML, ect). Good idea though.

I have print-outs of various stages of my order, and of my account, all showing the price as £39.99. Hiowever, these all shomw my membership number so doubt they'd by of much use. It also featured on page 17 of catalogue number "Video Issue 05/A" at the regular price of £39.99
Unfortunately I don't still have a copy of that catalogue. However - sometime in my original thread someone posted a link to a scan of the relevant page (not that I can find my original thread anymore).
What did the trick for me was a letter addressed to the Managing Director (didn't have a name so just used the title). In it I gave a detailed blow-by-blow account of my dealings, quoting dates of telephone conversations and names of people I had spoken with. I also stated that until my order had been honoured I refused any and all recommended titles and didn't expect to have to cancel them individually in view of my written notice.
I went on to say that as per the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 I would take reasonable care of any goods sent to me for a period of 21 days during which they must arrange to collect them from my premesis and that after that period my duty of care would lapse and I would accept no responsibility for the goods. (THIS WAS JUST MY LAYMANS UNDERSTANDING OF THE ACT).
I finished off by stating that I awaited their written reply and would then be contacting the Video Standards Council, the Trading Standards Authority and the BBC's Watchdog programme.
Never at any time did Britannia ask me to prove anything I said (even though I could).
Well done that sir.
I am currently fighting them over my introduction offer. I did what a lot of people did and selected 4 box sets, but must have just been caught out as they noticed.
However, they still signed me up as a member with no offer items at all. Which means they formed a contract with me and promptly breached it. Excellent.
I have sent them copies of the printouts confirming my selection on-line, and have had nothing back. Now I have sent them a letter saying they are in breach of contract and if they do not fulfill my selection, I shall pursue the matter legally - i.e. I will demand the difference between the full RRPs of the box-sets and the offer price as compensation for breach of contract and loss of bargain.
Given your success, I shall cc a copy right away addressed to the managing director.
I have been very careful to follow all their terms so far - cancelled all their offer recordings in good time etc.
Power to the consumer.
Ralph.

Right, I'm going to send them one last email, and if they don't come good then I'm going to write to the MD.
Fidney -
Thanks for the info, I still have my magazine which I received about 3 weeks after my order was placed and I also have printed invoices that I insisted they send me after the accounts/records system of theirs went haywire and this shows the Boxset as T.O.S AT £39.99 along with a letter stating that "Carry on" was now withdrawn from their range and would not appear again so they would be "unable to fullfill this order in future"
My last contact with them resulted in a supervisor saying take it to a lawyer because they were'nt interested, the only peice of the jigsaw I felt I was missing was a screenshot to do this but I'll maybe send a letter off to the M.D first as going the legal route is always a hassle.
Anyways, good to see you did'nt let them off the hook.
Smiler.
I would'nt normally stick at this sort of error but for the fact that I received an account from them saying they owed me £150 for goods I supposedly returned to them after paying  only for me to ring them and give them a complete list of everything I had bought and paid and kept, only one disk had been returned (not all of'em)

That's interesting 'cos it's available right now on their web-site for £99.99 regular price / £89.99 bonus price!
See http://www.britannia-music.co.uk/DvdSimpleSearch.do;jsessionid=caa40zIhHNniUF?input=Ultimate+Carry+On&submitting=x (if I've done it properly!)
Keep on at 'em - they're in the wrong and they've honoured the order for more than one person at the original price so they've set a precedent. Guess it's just a case of who gets fed up first, you or them.
The best of luck to you.
