Some great offers, the Blik DAB Radio is £50 direct from Revo - and around £43 from elsewhere
I just subscribed to Total Film for £3 for 3 issues then £10 a quarter

Your link has it at £12 a quarter making it £15 more expensive for the first year.

Alan's link is an affiliate link, meaning the forums gets a bit of cash too, your link is not.
This is the "bargain forum". Not the "rip off members to make a bit of cash forum"

There wont be a forum if people dont use affiliate links.
:oh-hum:
You guys are missing the point.
Affiliate links are great providing they link to a bargain. I can't believe the "forum" would expect anyone to pay £48 with an affiliate when it can be had for £33!

No, *you're* missing the point. The forum is not making any money, far from it. They're barely staying above water at the moment. So they need all the affil income they can get. If there are places where you can get stuff cheaper, brilliant, you go use it. But if you're going to use their site, at least show them the decency of helping them out where you can.
You guys are missing the point.
No you are missing the point, as said above these forums will not be here much longer if things don't improve but I don't suppose you give a toss so long as you save a few quid. No one minds members posting links where items can be had cheaper no matter if they are via affiliate links or not but to say "This is the "bargain forum". Not the "rip off members to make a bit of cash forum" " just about sums up what you think of the forums.
Cheers Gedalia, much appreciated.

You think we post these links to deliberately rip people off? We've got nothing against anyone posting a better deal, whether we have an affiliate scheme with them or not, but comments like yours are so "me me me" it highlights why the forums may not be around with the current financial situation. Still, it's OK for them to disappear as it will save you from getting ripped off in the future though, eh?
Cheers Gedalia, much appreciated.
If I didn't already have you down as a troll then I wouldn't be thinking you have posted this to deliberately get a reaction from us...
Whilst I support the affiliate links, how much does the forums get from the link in this instance? £15 difference is a fair bit to anyone, and if the affiliate income from using the link was say a couple of quid, I'd rather donate that to the forums in some way and still save £13. There must be some way of doing this so that everybody wins, and we don't get issues like the above?

It changes from merchant to merchant, but is usually around 3 or 4% of the sale. As we have said we have no problem with people posting links to sites where savings can be made after all this is what the forum is about, but to accuse us of ripping people off as Gedalia has done is just not cricket.

It's not an issue if you find a better price from an unaffiliated site and we aren't currently asking for donations. All we are asking is that you support us by using the links where you perceive it to be a bargain.
There will still be a fair percentage of people that find something through an unaffiliated site that was a penny cheaper then the site we have an affiliate with, but would still use that as their perception is that the penny is better in their pocket then in someone elses.
We even have members here who have admitted they won't use our links as they don't like that fact we are getting something from it and they aren't.

Hang on a minute, I make a few "banter" posts about Newcastle fans (as a Sunderland fan) and you have me down as a troll. I've been on this site for the best part of 9 years now and you label me a troll because of a bit football banter? I think you'd know after thousands of posts and nearly a decade if I was really a troll.
I've seen more windups/banter coming from you over the years than most posters so I think you're out of order.
I thought it was etiquette on here to thank posters when they posted bargains?

You were doing really well until that last sentence which brought out the cynic in me again.
I haven't even noticed you for 9 years, but you seem to have put yourself onto my radar with several of your posts in the last month or so. Maybe it's just coincidence.
Banter isn't a problem. We'll just agree you were doing that here then.

At the end of the day mate, the only "wrong" I've done on here is having a bit friendly banter with the Newcastle supporters. That sort of thing always happens in a football thread, I understand it's not allowed here so I said I wouldn't post in their thread again.
Today I thank someone for posting a bargain, on the bargain forum, I always try to make a point of thanking someone if I take up an offer they post.
Lets hope I can stay off your radar for another 9 years. :)

Judging by the post reports you have generated it from your fellow forumites, it seems like a bit more than friendly banter from what they are saying. I don't 'understand' football fanaticism, but the one thing I do notice is that we end up black booking as many people in the sports forum for abuse and trolling then the rest of the site put together.
We know banter and leg pulling when we see it, but we also have an eye for spotting stuff that is designed to be deliberately inflammatory.

 They actually reported my posts, did you actually see them, they weren't exactly bad, just a bit of banter. I think I got a warning for saying Joe Kinnear was a good manager or something. I'm a Sunderland supporter after all, it's my duty to have friendly banter with those from 14 miles up the road.
I don't think anything I said to them was inflammatory though. One thing I've noticed, when running forums, is that people don't tend to go unnoticed by admin for nearly 9 years when they set out to be deliberately inflammatory.
I bet Johannes Gutenberg never thought he'd start all this.
This has been blown way out of proportion.
To reiterate, I am the first to use an affiliate link when its a bargain! I can't believe people are getting so worked up about the fact I posted a link that was over 30% cheaper!
Normally, people are thanked for this. I in no way shape or form am against the forum making money. My "rip off" comment was against DJBenson who I felt was essentially telling me off for posting something that was cheaper than an affiliate. We're not talking 20p, but £15 that's over 30%!

Telling you off  I have stayed out of this since my comment, which simply highlights that Alan's link is an affiliate one meaning some money for the forums, and yours isn't - simple as that. If I'd have posted "thanks for doing the forums out of their £2" then you'd have had every right to get back at me, but as I didn't, you don't :p
I still think the T3 deal with the DAB radio is a cracker, even taking into consideration the difference between the affiliate and non-affiliate links - the product retails for between £40-£50 so whatever way you look at it, if you read the mag and don't have/want to replace a DAB radio, this is a bargain.
It would be a shame if the bargain forum became more like MSE where peeps will purposely abuse a policy just to save a few pence (their thread on Tesco's pricing mistakes is a real eye opener!) . Judging by how much its mentioned on MSE, i guess ****** is the reason for drop in affiliate income?
Back on topic, i ordered a Mac format sub through the affialiate link at the top of the bargain forum last week. Yay me \o/

If anyone's actually interested in our planned policy on bargains etc this is a useful link:
http://www.pricesearching.co.uk/EthicalSaving
While we haven't fully extended this to DVDF as yet, this WILL be the global policy of all Poisonous Monkey sites within the next few months. All we need to do is check what we allow now and ensure that we make any changes to the rules of this area to support this policy going forward.
I did have a small piece in there about cashback sites and their serious negative implications to content-driven websites and merchants, but I've removed that for now as I think that is a discussion for another day.
We will be fighting an uphill battle on this though as the biggest sites can bend and break the rules as they like with no fallout - there are plenty of well known sites that are going to eventually cause a collapse in online marketing and a complete rethink of how things are done and this WILL lead to the closure of many, many, genuinely useful sites who are losing income fast due to the actions of a few. While these large sites break the rules, measures are slowly being brought in to tackle the problem. The real issue though is that by the time these measures have any effect, it'll be too late for many genuine and hard working people.

So do these offers only kick in if you subscribe for a year, or can you cancel after the first quarter?
DJBenson
12-02-2009, 14:53
They are 12 month contracts (from the terms for the T3 offer at least). Best to check the terms of the mag you are interested in.
Just to correct Gedalia's incorrect post, his link isn't £15 cheaper, because it doesn't include the six free DVDs, so it's not like for like.
The T3 offer is awesome, thanks OP. :)

Normally a "Stuff" reader, but my subs have just run out so I have gone for the T3 deal through the affiliate link.
Just to mention that the blurb at the top of the page states that the free gift is subject to availability, and that they reserve the right to replace the gift with another of similar value or extra magazines. If worst comes to worst, at least I've got 18 months of T3 for £20.

Just wanted to bump this as I took delivery of the Revo Blik DAB radio this morning, it's a funny looking little thing but the quality of the build is superb, feels solid. Operation is very easy - it set itself up upon plugging it in and picked up the full lineup from the multiplex in our area.
Thanks to Alan for the original post - 12 month subscription to ease (or should that be assist) my gadget addiction and a nice little DAB radio for the kitchen.
Mine too. Quality piece of kit, and I actually think it looks fantastic. Cheers OP. :)

Can you cancel after the first quarter if you don't like the magazine, if so there are some amazing deals there...
Also GamesMaster magazine with a free Wii Dragonballz game for less than a tenner a quarter
Also NGamer or Official Mag with free Guiness World Records
Total Film with 3 Blurays & HDMI cable for £10 a quarter
Am I right in thinking you can cancel after the first quarter?

Think it depends which deal you go for...if it's one with a gift (like the DAB radio) then it's a 12 month contract (2 direct debits bi-annually).
I had a move around in the kitchen yesterday and put the radio in a glass-fronted cupboard so that it could sit somewhere it will be kept clean and also left plugged in. I can use the remote to control it (which looks like it will be fairly resilient to kitchen use). Looks pretty swish actually. The DAB tuner is very sensitive, a great improvement over my last DAB unit (made by Pure) which was terrible. The "M-Port" is handy for listening to podcasts too.
