The region 2 is a very good disk from EIV, but the Region 1 version from New Line has a lot more extras.

Check out rewind for more info

Before you buy it check out what rewind has to say http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=108

I bought the region 1 version and it's great, I just hope no. 2 can be as good.

Get the New Line Platinum Edition (R1) of Blade.

I think that I saw one for trade on the classifieds forum.

Theres a R1 platinum series release on 05/03/02 according to dv-depot....
Not sure if its a re-release or not but there seems to be more extras listed than appear on Rewind...

Is that date in US or UK format?

I mean is it the 5th of March or the 3rd of May?

March 5th (I use the British way as opposed to the US silly way) ;)

Check out their homepage and scroll down to the section "coming in next 21 days" - There it is...

There's not much in it with the originals on the extras unless you really like DVD-ROM content (face it, who bothers with it?), but I can say that the EIV R2 is reference quality when it comes to picture and sound (exceptionally high bitrate too). Many moan at EIV but I'd rather have tabloid ads on the back (about the only gripe with EIV) and a mint PAL picture, than easy to damage cardboard and NTSC.

Think I might for a box set to come out. Should not be to long.

Going by the Rewind info, it appears as though the R2 has been cut... ?

Anyone confirm this please ?

Cheers. :)

No Cuts - but it would appear that the version submitted to BBFC for classification was shorter (115m 16s) than the theatrical version (120m 9s)

It could be someone at rewind didn't consider that PAL runs faster and so the run-time will be shorter. What you need to know is the difference between the R1 and R2 and work out if that's just the PAL speedup. If so the versions are identical. Whether they differ from the theatrical version is a different matter, though I suspect it's the same.

If it's just the PAL speedup then I'm very surprised that rewind isn't aware of these issues as it applies to every film in the BBFC database. Schoolboy error I think.

Actually, I believe you are using the silly US way...

In the UK we generally write our dates as e.g. 24/12/02
:D

Just checked. PAL speedup I believe is 4%. 4% off 120m is about 115m. So there you are. Rewind have screwed up I think.

Taken from imdb:

Blood spurting from severed necks is rumoured to be cut from the UK version, thanks to the BBFC, because they apparently said that it was "too graphic" for an '18' certificate.

UK video version removes some footage from the scene where Quinn captures Blade: when the henchman's hand is obliterated by his booby trapped sword, the uncut scene shows the henchman licking his blood pumping stump, but in the cut version all we see is him sticking his tongue out

Just checked and yes the scene in the R2 only shows the guy with his tounge out. However, BBFC haven't cut it themselves (so it's not thanks to the BBFC). Either it was submitted pre-cut or it's the same in the US.

However, Rewind still are misleading by suggesting around 5 minutes of cuts when it's just PAL speedup. I'd say about 1 or 2 seconds might be cut. Question is whether the R1 or R4 are the same?

Is the henchman scene intact in the R1, complete with him licking the stump ?

Just watched the R1 disc and it DOESN'T have him licking the stump, just sticking his tongue out.

Hmm, so the R1 and R2 are identical ?

I guess so, but I haven't seen the R2, so I'm not 100% sure.

So it sounds like someone posted on IMDB having got a rumour of a cut and blamed it on BBFC when all regions are looking like they're the same and the BBFC never cut it anyway, and Rewind have jumped on the time difference and assumed it was a cut and not accounted for PAL speedup.

I think we can conclude that no region is any more cut than any other. Many film have stuff cut out prior to release, but whether you call that 'cut' or just stuff that was left on the cutting room floor is another matter.

Also, the menu`s on the R1 are much better.

Both R1 and R2 have the commentary, so unless there has been some careful editing done to keep the track in sync (like EiV would goto that much trouble! ) you can safely assume that both regions have the same version of the film.
