Hi folks,
Returning my HTC Touch HD to Orange as the Stylus is scratchnig the screen. Its my second HD as the first one was faulty. So, am off the idea of touch screens and want to go back to a Sony Ericsson. The 2 choices on the Orange Website seem to be...
Sony Ericsson C905 in Ice Silver
The Camera Option. Would need to a bigger M2 Card to this.
Sony Ericsson W980
The Walkman Option. Also a Flip Phone, which is cool.
Anyone got or had either of these... ? Am not too bothered either way with functions to be honest. Am going to buy a stand alone Sat Nav now for work having given up on the idea of having a Phone with Sat Nav. Also no preference over these 2 as would add an 8GB card to the C905 bringing it up the same memory as the W980. Obviously the C905 has the way better Camera.
Are these 2 Phone okay for some light daily Browsing... ?
Cheers. :)

btw did you get it from a shop or web?

Web... Why... ?
Then i foolishly destroyed my old sim card. Now am waiting for a new sim so that it can be re-registered as my old one, as i have to return the new sim i got with the HD along with it.
They said as soon as they get it back and its on the system i can go to a shop and do the Upgrade. That way i have the option of going back to a shop if there are any problems. Although will they still be able to offer me the same 'deal' i got, i.e. 10% off line rental, free phone and free number change. In fact will my number revert back to my old one when the do the sim change?!?!?! Should have asked them. :D
Been using Sony Ericsson phones since they were Ericsson. My wee flip phone, T(something) was a great mobile. The w800i was great and i had a p990i for 2 years (longest i have owned a phone for).
MC you work for them don't you... ?
Outwith the Nokia N96 (which they are never going to give me free), what the best most reliable non-touchscreen mobile currently... ?
Cheers. :)
I'm trying to come up with an answer to this question as it's that time of the year and a half again, I've been fairly loyal to SE since they were just E same as you and don't want to go to another brand really. Temptation for me is to go for the W980 as I have the W910 now and use it more as a music player than phone. C905 seems like the more fully featured phone though and if i could easily get into the media player like you can with the W910 then i think that i would go for that.

Had a play about with both and the C905 felt very plasticy.
The W980i just felt a it better in my hands plus has 8Gb and is a cool funky flip. :D
Am now also thinking about asking Orange for a deal on the Nokia N96... ;)

yeah i do the w980 has been out of the while and not that great of a phone... the c905 is nice but very prone to faults... i peronsally live the lg renior.... or the new nokia 5800.... n96 is ok but the n85 is virtually the same and way way way cheaper

Am just going to return the phone and sim tomorrow to Orange.
Can't be bothered waiting any longer for the replacement sim to arrive, and am using an old payg for the coming week. Topped up with unlimited texts. :D
Still like the W980i though myself.
The Renoir is a touch screen, as is the 5800. So they are no go's for me.
You can get protective film covers for touch phones for a quid, pretty much removes all the risk. I've had my 5800 for a couple of days now so time will tell how it stands up, but I've got a protective film on its way just in case.
If you're only worried about scratching, then I guess your problems have gone?

Had a screen protector on it but that got all scratched as well.
Maybe just my stylus is to blame here.
But it's put me off touch screens.
Fair enough, fwiw the 5800 gives me a lot of confidence in terms of scratch resistance, but as I said, time will tell!

Sim still not arrived.
Send the HD back on Monday. Orange have received it but need to wait on them processing it back onto my Account now.
Might be Friday or Monday next week.
Using a payg for the time being.
Am still not 100% on which phone to go for now, and will use the extra few days to have a think.
Cheers. :)
yeah i do the w980 has been out of the while and not that great of a phone... the c905 is nice but very prone to faults...
What do you reckon to the X1? Is it any good? I note SE have finally ditched their own crappy memory cards in favour of SD for that phone.
I still wish the G900 had delivered. It's almost exactly what I'd want from a phone but as none are on contract I'd have to shell out £270 for a new boxed unlocked one and I'm a bit dubious about that route...

x1 isn't made by sony its done by htc and re-branded... not played withone myself but most of the winmob phones are pretty much the same... i am liking the e71 abd 5800 though at the mo....
but my be holding out for the new blackberry 9300.... june time.... ohhh man too many to choose from!!!!

Went for the W980, got it today along with 15% off my monthly call plan...
Enquired about the N96 but i am on 'Band 4' - Panther 45 so it would be £200 to upgrade to the N96  even though a new customer pays £100 on Orange or in the CPW on O2 they get it for FREE!!!
Anyway, more than happy with the W980. Been playing about with it now for a few hours and well impressed.
Cheers. :)
Finally got one then Prof? And seem happy with it for the meantime. Give us an update if anything changes will you?
Have to admit i'm being pulled towards the dark side (nokia) by what i've been reading about the 5800 (having not had the negative touch screen experiences that you had)
One thing i don't like about the W980 isn't just that it's not a huge leap forward from what's come before but that you can't whip out the memory card and slot it in the usb adapter to change the music. Going by my current phone feels a lot slower to transfer files through the cable than it does doing it that way.

I copied 4gb of Albums over from iTunes earlier and it took about 30 mins. No problem really, just stick a cd on while you wait. :D
Yeah it's not a huge leap forward, but it looks and feels funky! ;) The C905 felt really plasticky in my hands today and the slider felt quite flimsy.
After a few hours of play, am really pleased i went for this now the wife wants one to replace her w890i when her contract is up in July.
