Found elsewhere, could be a nice walkabout lens for someone. Plus i think it has an internal motor, so will work with the D40/x & D60.

That's not a bad price... what's the quality like? Also wondering if it will be a good partner for my D80?

Can someone confirm about the internal motor and working with a D40?

If it is the model shown in the picture it is the one with a motor so it will autofocus on a D40

Very tempted to get this to replace my Canon 28-105mm USM for my 350D as a holiday walkabout. The range is just about perfect on this.

Good price for both lenses, shame the Tarmon isn't the 18-250 which is a better lens.

I decided to give it a miss in the end. The reviews I read suggest it is a bit of a compromise lens as far as image quality goes (to be expected, I suppose, given the focal lengths and the price)

If I only had the kit lens it would be worth a purchase, almost certainly. But as I already have the range covered, albeit with 3 different lenses I decided it wasn't worth sacrificing image quality for convenience.

I only have the kit lens so it sounds perfect

I have this lens on my canon. The reviews generally say it's a compromise lens, and they're right, it is. The quality can be less than great, especially at the long end of things, and you can get some really bad chromatic aberration in some circumstances, but if you're out and about and don't want to be swapping lenses, it does the job.

Here's a few photos I've taken with mine (camera is a canon 350d):

Hmmm, quite like the look of this as a fit and forget lens on my D60. I'm assuming a) it will fit! b)autofocus works c)VR2 works

Any better then the stock 18-55 that came in the kit, apart from the extra zoom?

Image quality wise it's slightly better, but not significantly. AF will work with the D60, but the lens has VR not VR2 (only subtle differences between the two though).

does anyone know if this is a metal or plastic mount? (looks plastic in the photo) I had a 55-200 Nikon Vr mount which broke, whereas all sigmas are metal.

It's plastic, the Tamron is likely to be metal.

I have the 18-55 kit lense + 55-200 VR, which I'll be sticking with as The Tamron is SLOW and there are question marks against its performance.

The 18-105 VR does sound a nice lens though.

i use a Sigma 18-200mm.

Yes, it hasn't got the best image quality of all my lenses, but it aint bad but the range is just so damn useful I use it 95% of the time.

having said that, since I got my D90 I've been using the 18-105 that came with it, but mostly just cos its new. I love the image quality, but I really miss the extra reach of the 18-200.

Ended up buying the Tamron AF18-200mm (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=1&url=http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1735423187.1235427878@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdgadegidfdfmdcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=936585&category_oid=-28577) from Dixons as its £1 cheaper on delivery and there is a 2% discount code FEB2. Would it be a good idea to print off the photo incase I get sent a non D40 compatible lens like the one in the pic?
