Myself and a few mates have just picked this up for 20 quid in Blockbusters.

We are totally new to part 2 so would like to just play with felow 'n00bs'.

It is changing your profile and the console at the same time. One of the other you would probably be ok. You might be able to do your once a year licence switch though.

Horde was good fun last night. Especially as I could just use the sniper whenever generally which is good practice for MP. I've dropped belgique74, Mike501 and GPR79 some friends requests. I should have thought to ask for a switch at Horde L10 to another Flashback map to get the new Skeletons in your Closet - Complete waves 1 through 10 on all Flashback Map Pack maps in Horde achievement.

I did it with 3 other friends last night too. We did waves 37-50 on casual in 1hr 15m to get the Hoard the Horde achievement. It was fairly easy tbh. I've done to Wave 20 on Insane with 5 of us and that was tough! This week I've also done the Flashbacks Wave 1-10 and most of the Combustible maps 1-10. Flood is quite tricky as there does not seem to be a natural safe point against the Blood Mounts.

Well there was only me and my mate doing the 1st 10 waves of Horde to get the new achievements, so we were trying to work out good places to fortify...the front door of the Fuel Station on said map is good, just remember to close the other shutter and keep an eye out for the occasional Locust running in the back door. Gold Rush is tricky as it's so open, but either weapon in the middle is a good bet to defend, downstairs is preferable because of the frags.

Though what we generally do is leave 1 enemy alive at the end so we can nip round and restock our ammo.

We've done it all now. On Gold Rush we found that either of the end spawnpoints are good. You can hole up and lancer down most of the incoming before picking up stuff. Wave 10 we did just with lancers and the shotty in the end where the ammo respawns. Just used concentrated fire from the two of us to take down the blood mounts. Re-stocking when we could from the ammo crate the other side of the entrance. In both cases we found that we had to keep one person in the spawn point at all times otherwise the horde would spawn in that area and be behind you.

Fuel station you can do quite a few waves in the open area to the right of the front where the ammo spawns. The take the roof and plug the stairs at the top with a shield. The locust don;t seem to use the lift and you get a respawning scorcher to take them as they pile up at the top.

The other tip is always take a Boltok pistol if you get the chance as with its zoom and power it gives you an extra edge if you run out of long range weapons.

I had GOW1 3 times and couldn't get into it at all. Heard this is better though...and The Prof bullied me into getting it ;):lol:

Trouble with Horde is I got bored after a while, it's pretty good fun for a while and it's good fun trying to vary tactics over the maps.....but it's still more fun killing your friends.

I've been getting into King Of The Hill, Annex, etc on Public - much better for newbs like me due to the infinite respawns - I tend not to last long in straight Warzone matches and have to spend most of the game in ghost cam mode floating around, which can get frustrating.

Happy to try anything tonight, recommend Guardian as a game mode, plus Wingman is always good for a laugh.

If there is 5 of you in a private match then you can play Deathmatch by using Wingman. First set friendly fire on. Add 5 bots and each of you pair up with one. Game starts. You each immediately execute your bot partner and then it's game on. Good fun to do now and then for a change.

We tried Wingman before. Myself and a few of the other regulars did not really like it to be honest. The Submission mode as well did not go down too good.

We do however play Horde a lot, but we are trying to organise some 5v5 Execution.

As well as the regulars, we also have RoboTeveo back now and have some American friends of Belgique who now play regularly.

I will be on tonight at 10.30 along with the rest of the Glasgow crowd. :lol:

On a side note I joined a public match of horde the other night (you play normal difficulty, start from wave 1 and if any wave is failed, that's yer lot) and made it to wave 37!!!

Been playing a bit today and already up to 5 on the new ranking system, looks like it's all about how many points you rack up per game - I was playing annex and the game lasted a while, when it was done I was up two rankings, won't be suprised if there's gamers up to 50 by now, lol.

The stats are still there (kill/death ratios, etc) so I'm guessing that's what the 'truskill' measure is when they pair up teams of similar skill, regardless of the new rankings. I'm up to 11 now and you guys know I'm pretty crap so just cos a guy is ranked 18 doesn't mean he has a high 'truskill' rating.

The new system is EXP (experience) nothing whatsoever to do with the old trueskill system. Trueskill is now hidden but still used to match up the teams so you should get a reasonably match set of sides. Or at least it should be the same as it was before. The new system can show one of two things. You are maybe a crap player who plays a lot to get the score or you are good and play not that much and still get that score. The only thing you could say 1 day in is that a higher rank probably is a fairly good player who has played quite a lot in the last day or so. After a few months it might be either until you actually play them and work out which.

There's a link here (http://gwa.justasktheitguy.com/gears-of-war-news/gears-of-war-2-points-to-experience-points-ratio-breakdown/) that shows how people think the the game points are converted to exp points. I personally think the system is flawed now in that the win is not at present awarded by points. I played a truly ****** Annex game where one of my team dropped out and the rest just concentrated on kills and ignored the actual goal.

Played some annex today to level up and ended up with less exp points than I started with. Seems that when you get disconnected from a game (which happens sometimes) that counts as you quitting the game and you get a 1500 point penalty at the end of the next game you play. Happened to me 2 or 3 times today dammit!

I think they've clamped down on a lot of things like quitting (even though it wasn't your fault). I accidentally killed myself in a wingman last night and it deducted a kill from our team, I pressed the right trigger to aim (because I've been playing RE 5) instead of the left trigger, and it turned me into sushi.

Not really tried KotH or Wingman modes yet, although from what I've heard Wingman is meant to be a lot more tactical rather than mindless killing. I shall definitely have to give it a try soon.

KotH is quite tough as you need to be in the "ring" to clock up points. But the ring does not move until the round has ended. So the fighting can be more intense than Annex as there isn't the break caused by the ring change. Wingman is pretty much Deathmatch in pairs. The main tactic is not to get caught in the initial wave of killing when 5 pairs are present. There's also the taking advantage of other battles and downs as you should kill steal from other pairs whenever you can get away with it.

BTW good review of the new Snowblind map pack here (http://gdc.gamespot.com/video/6206811/gdc-2009-gears-of-war-2-snowblind-map-pack-video-preview?hd=1) This is the HD version. Looks a very good set of maps and there are the new 1-10 Horde achievements and a new 1-50 on one of them to go for :thumbs: It's out 31st March for 800pts

The maps are quite small and come down very quickly.

Have done Horde L1-L2 on each (L3 on Underhill) in alphabetic order to test them out. Hopefully have the weapon cycling info correct.

Courtyard
Like this one. Looks really nice. Snowing constantly. Lots of ways to get around and lots of cover and levels (2 levels around the map really). The weapon cycling is altered from other games which is good. Seems to have (in a 1 / 2 cycle order)

2 x Boltok / 2 x Gorgons
Boomshot / Torque
Longshot / Mortar
Frag / Ink

The grenades and Boltok look like they will be bit hard to get without putting yourself up for dying. Plus it looks like only one set of grenades.

Fuel Depot
Pretty much the same as in Gears1. Snow or not (and it stays snowing) seems the same tbh. Looks like a good map for Horde though as there are lots of narrow passages between crates etc that you could easily defend. Weapons are where they were before apart from the HB to handgun swap. Order is

2 x Boltok / 2 x Gorgons (at the either side middle warehouse entrances)
Longshot / Torque
Hammer / Mortar
2 x Frag / Ink

Mortar might be a bit hard to get into action as it will be slow to get out of the warehouse. But it does work inside and bounces off the roof. It's a good map but having new ones is perhaps more interesting.

GrindYard
Again looks a good map. I think this will be a blood bath one the way it is laid out. Games could be very quick on this map. Snow sweeps across from one side to the other with spawn points at either end. Neat effect is that close to the wall on the side the snow comes from the clearer the fall is. A long landing runs the whole length of one side which should give quite a vantage point. This is offset by the weapons there only being the scorcher though there is a grenade spawn near. In the middle facing this is the tower with the mulcher/boomshot. The lower area either side of this where the handguns are have small cover turrets. Weapons cycle is

2 x Gorgon / Boltok
Mulcher / Boomshot
Scorcher (no cycle)
Ink / Frag (again only a single spawn that I can find)

Interestingly on Horde the ammo pick up gave me back a single grenade. Not noticed that before. Wingman would be pretty tough on this map if you don't have the end spawns I would imagine.

Underhill
Only map with no actual snow falling. This one will be interesting to see how much takes place outside. A lot is in the tunnel section which is quite large. Even the grenade spawns are so close that they count as in. Annex and KotH would be tough with the spawn points I think. The mortar on the bridge would make a fairly easy Horde point but the rest of the ammo is a sprint down the bridge. If you could get on the bridge as a last stand point with the Longshot it would be pretty tough to get you IMHO. You have a very commanding position then. The sniper does give a good counterpoint to the mortar if not but less so the torque.

2 x Boltok / Gorgon
Boomshield (no cycle
Scorcher (no cycle)
Longshot / Torque
2 x Ink / Frag
Mortar (no cycle)

So overall. Seems a good set of maps. I think Courtyard and Grindhouse would be my picks without playing through some vs games.

Chad, there are about 10 of us who all play Horde frequently mate, and we do cover all the maps. Thursday nights are 5v5 night and again we go through a selection of maps.

The new maps are in my opinion the best of the bunch. Particularly like the one with the scout tower. :D

Anyone played last night? I had a couple of games last night on the new maps but the couple of you I could see on were doing other games. I had my laggiest game ever last night on Fuel Depot. I think it might have been lag switched. I ran out the warehouse at the start to be teleported back inside time after time. All the time I moved I jumped to another place within secs. Couldn't kill anything. Mind you didn't die either. Even chainsawing next to someone did not work as the next second I was actually somewhere else chainsawing thin air or a wall. I only stopped in the match so I didn't lose 1500 pts through quitting. Eventually the host quit thank god

Well, my weds evening went horribly wrong, and I just wasn't up for it last night either. So that was the reason for absence on my end.
