For all those looking forward to John Dahl's latest thriller, featuring Steve Zahn and the lovely Leelee Sobieski, according to pearlanddean.com's film planner, it's been renamed Roadkill and will be released April 12th.
I still prefer the working title, Squelch.
Very strange to do this at such a late stage when all the posters and trailers have been released bearing the original title.
It wasn't as if the film was a massive bomb at the box office and they're trying to sneak it out a la Saving Silverman/Evil Woman.

Good point, it doesn't make much sense from Fox's point of view which makes me wonder if they're being forced to do it because someone else owns the title in the UK?
It's changed on Fox's website so it's official.

Just checked on IMDB.com, and there's a Joyride starring Tobey Maguire, and a Joyride starring Melanie Griffiths. There's been two, why not a third? I just think that having posters up with the word JOYRIDE on them will encourage people to do it :D :D :D
I think it's something to do with Joy Ride having a different meaning in the UK than the US.
But it is strange that it had a name change so late. My local showcase has had posters advertising Joy Ride for the past 4 months.

I was really looking forward to this film... but the new title and the long wait have put a downer on things.
I'm definitely gonna go for the r1 which is out next month.

In case anyone's interested, I emailed Fox earlier in the week and they mailed me back tonight to say that Regency, the film's production company, ordered the title change and they, as distributors, have no choice but to comply.

Maybe there's hope for Star Wars Episode II :D
Saying that, didn't they do the same with Return of the Jedi (i.e. was to be Revenge of the Jedi but changed at last minute, as I believe there were some of the toy figures released with the 'Revenge' title and some posters).

Depending on who you believe, Lucas changed it late in the day because (a) he decided jedis don't take revenge or (b) he wanted to screw all the merchandise bootleggers.
