I have a philips dvd player that hasnt had a lot of use over the last two years, bu we are finding that it has now started refusing to play discs which it used to play without problem, the discs in question play okay on other machines but when put into the philips it whirs a bit and then says "no disc" .

The system is out of warranty now but as far as i'm concerned it should last for more playing hours than it has, does anyone know if its terminal?

Have tried cleaning the discs but makes no difference.

Thanks

You have cleaned the disks, have you also cleaned the lens. An ordinary CD lens cleaner will do the job they are arround £3.

Haven't tried a lens cleaner, will try and get one tomorrow, would this affect just certain dvd's though, others currently play fine, although for £3.00 its got to be worth a try.

It seems funny that it is only affecting certain disks, all of which used to play okay. Will let you know if the lens cleaner does the trick.

Thanks
