View Full Version : Denon AVR2802, AVR3802 or what??
Anyone got either of these recievers? Is it REALLY worth paying the extra and getting the 3802 over the 2802? Should I be looking at something completley different for my money?
Thanks :)

Check out the current Marantz range also, very similar spec and prices if you shop about :)
I'm definitely gonna go with the Denon - I'm sold on it already! Where are you getting yours from Shaz - PRC? And what are you doing about the extra center needed?
Had the 2802 for a couple of months now and really pleased with it. I got mine from HiFijunkies, £480 :)
Another vote for the 3802 superb !!!
Prologic II is fantastic !!

Going to get a demo sometime very soon down at my local Audio T store. They price match so hoping to get for same price as PRC or HiFiJunkies.
Will ask for some advice down there as far as the rear centre channel goes as don't fancy a having a huge box speaker on the back wall hanging over the sofa.

They actually recommend using a pair of speakers for the centre back channel. Amps like the 3802, which have pukka DTS-ES decoding (and those sporting genuine THX-EX), have a 7.1 channel amp for this reason, even though technically the format is only 6.1.
The 3802 is a THX spec amp in all but name, and comes with practically all the features you'd expect on a THX amp.
Even though it's £650 or so, it still looks good value for what you get.
If your sofa is on the back wall, and the centre back channel speaker have to go directly above it, then consider some bipolar rears - they are usually very easy to wall mount, and don't look too silly with big brackets etc etc. Prices range from £70 or so for a pair - IMO the Mission ranges look good value, eg M7DS at about £130 (of course, it depends what you currently have as rears though)

Thanks for that advice mate, most appreciated.
I'm currently using a pair of corner mounted Canon V-100 wide stereo-imaging speakers for surrounds (with optional paintable grills so they match the colour of the walls!).
When I had the home cinema room decorated a year or so ago, thought ahead and had the carpet fitters run an extra length of speaker cable round the outside of the room under the carpet for a rear center channel. After what you've just said about having another pair at the back my forward planning has gone right out of the window!

This is getting WAY to expensive! :D

Am a proud new owner of the 2802. Have the KEF 2005 system and it sounds superb. Highly recommend the amp as it was an upgrade from an old Sherwood DD and the difference is significant. And DPL II is great. Didn't really see the need to go all the way for the 3802, but I would expect it to be better as it costs more :)
For info got mine from leconcepts, £499 + £25 for Sat am delivery. Ordered 14:45 Friday, arrived 08:40 Saturday.
I have the 2802, it very good, but the remote is nasty, but apart from that its great mmmmmm Se7en (the 3802 has a better one).
