Well, I have to say, I didn't enjoy them as much as I'd hoped. About half-way through The Hidden Fortress my interest started to wain. Maybe I shouldn't have attempted to watch both movies in one sitting.

I was very impressed technically by the cinematography and editing but found the pace a little slow. And as a Star Wars fan it was great to see what a sizeable debt George Lucas owes to Kurosawa. There were so many ideas both in terms of story and mise-en-shot in these two films that Lucas has made use of. There were even certain shots from The Phantom Menace that I recognised in Throne Of Blood.

All in all, they were interesting to see but I don't think I'll be buying the DVDs anytime soon.

Even though I dipped out of Throne of Blood for a bit (new South Park) I thoroughly enjoyed them both. Hidden Fortress particularly, great mix of drama and comedy, very good - although the voice for the Princess was a bit grating, I expected someone more refined, it was like she was permanently screaming at everyone.
The only thing that I find depressing is that I now have to go looking for the Kurosawa films on DVD :( :p
