View Full Version : Groundhog Dog SE R2 - no 5.1?!!
I saw this today in Woolies in Leamington Spa (didn't think it was out till the 18th?!) And they had it in the Buy 2 get 1 free section!!
I was on my way to the checkout when I noticed the back of the box indicated surround sound only, no 5.1. I didn't buy. Can anyone confirm this or is it just a case of Columbia screwing up the packaging again? This is the new special edition version.

Are you sure it is the SE?
Totally sure, 100%
Had sticker on front saying 'new edition-with extra footage'. And on back listed the directors commentary, making of doco, trailer etc.
This is why I am confused.

I've got it on pre-order from Play and they also say the 18th.
Mystery!
What I can't get over is the fact that they stick a commentry and making-of doco on and then call it a CE/SE.
I know they do it so you don't mix the two versions up but is the old version being discontinued or something?

If it's the same as the R4 SE (and I guess it is) then there is no 5.1 track. Go for the R1 instead - it's worth it.

Play have it listed as 5.1.
Guess we will have to wait and see.
Hopefully the R2 Project will be reviewing it soon
I'm also keen to find out which version is the one to get.

And just for the record, the american version

but it does not have DTS
ALL THE EUROPEAN VERSION's HAVE THE SAME LANGUAGES. Will the UK get an ENGLISH only version, therefore maybe the 5.1 track.
ooohh, the suspense. Wish I'd just bought the copy in Woolies now. At least I could have taken it back if it is only surround and we would all know for sure.
let's be honest though the lack of a 5.1 soundtrack on a film like this isn't really that big a deal is it

So is that a good enough excuse for Columbia Tristar to shaft the R2 public then?

That'd make a change.

Columbia Tristar are one of the better R2 suppliers, in my experience.

I share that thought but if they release this title in DPL when they just re-released it in the States with a DD 5.1, then I would be disappointed

As someone who has the original R2 Pro-logic version AND the new US 5.1 version, I disagree. The new 5.1 mix is superb and really brings some of the scenes to life. That, combined with a new documentary and commentary makes it definitely worth another purchase!
