I was going to buy a 32" Toshiba to go with my Toshiba 210 DVD but on this forum one thread complains the same set-up produces 'shimmering' on region 1 dvd's and other threads slag the tv's off! What 32" tv do you guys watch...and are you glad your watching it?

I've had a 32" Toshiba for just over a week now and I haven't a bad word to say about it. Sure, the geometry is off slightly but its nothing I can't live with, and I might even try and fix it via the service menu. I also have a Toshiba DVD player (a 2109b) and I think they work together great. At the end of the day its you who must be happy with the thing so other peoples opinions shouldn't really stop you getting any TV as long as you like it, go for it.

Be Careful!!!

I have a 32" widescreen 100Hz 5.1 Toshiba and its been a pain, replaced a 26" surround sound Toshiba which knocked spots off this one.

Picture always has a pink tinge, sound quality isnt a patch on the old one as far as bass response goes, there were also problems with dark and light flashing on certain pictures, We also find having recently changed the dvd that picture quality is lousy on any scart input other than scart 1, which means that sky has to go into scart 2 which gives a dot crawl problem, if dvd is in scart 2 its like looking through a wire mesh. Toshiba themselves have been great and are currently going to replace the tube and we have two of their top training engineers round to set things up and correct the problems, but in fairness it should be right when we get it out of the box.

I have been told that panasonic or sony have the best picture quality under 32" apparently on the projection screens toshiba do come into their own and are by far the best, (or so I'm told)

I dont envy you but my best advice is to find out what you need in relation to your existing equipment and ensure that whoever you buy it from is aware of the equipment you have and what you want it to do and make sure they assure you of total compatibility, that way if you do have problems later its a lot easier to demand an exchange or refund if you can go back and say "I told you what I had, and what I wanted, you advised this and it doesnt do what I wanted" :argue:

I've had a look at the AV Forums to see their views of 32" Toshiba TV's. Long threads slagging them off! Not all the threads say Toshiba 32" and 36" TV's are crap. There are many other threads which concentrate on saying Sony, Philips and Panasonic TV's are crap. The actual reviews in 'What Video & TV' and 'Home Cinema Choice' say what generally great 32" tv's Sony, Toshiba, Philips and Panasonic have! Perhaps i should wait!

going off on a tangent a little bit, but after having bought a 32" w/s myself and reading all the forums, it seems to me that the tecnnology for tvs has a long way to go, as it doesn't seem to matter how much people pay, time after time there are problems, or there is at least one thing wrong with the set.

I just find it crazy when people are paying between 800-2000 £ that they have to put up with any flaws at all.

Every other bit of equipment I have does what it is supposed to do and without any faults, but not the tv!

moan over.

I was looking for a 32" set just before Xmas but gave up in the end. I was leaning towards the Toshiba "picture frame" set but having seen the thread on the AVforums I was a bit put off. I've looked at some other sets but they offer no significant gains and have the disadvantage of being bigger.

I think I might wait now and see how things progress technology wise. Plasma displays are coming down in price slowly and they may offer big advantages over CRT sets.

That would be logical but if you take that thought to the extreme then you won't buy anything at all and just wait for the next technolgy to come along and so on.

I have just bought a Panasonic 32PL10C 100 hz TV and very pleased with it I am. Just take the plunge now because it is inevitable that a better technolgy will come along but for now 32 and 36" CRT tv's are the best you'll get without opting for the rear projection route.

I have to say that I read all the good and bad things about the tosh 32" / 36" pictureframe TV's (more bad than good!) but I still bought one (36") because they look fantastic and do have very good features.

Touch wood (::touching forehead now::) I have had absolutely no problems with mine -- I am hoping that maybe Toshiba have made minor updates to the TV's - the geometry is great, the picture fantastic and the sound awesome. My only beef is that the subwoofer could have been a bit louder, but apparently because it is built into the back of the TV it can cause "shaking" - however, it still has a nice rumble to it ;)
