Hey all,

Suppose I have £150 to spend on a player. I've currently got an old, pants, matsui drive (one of the first cheapo drives that ever came out), which has all sorts of problems. What do I buy next?

From looking around online, it would appear the Yelo and the Lecson are the two real options at this price level. Does anyone have either of these? Pleased with it?

Any other players I should consider?

Thanks all,

Dan.

I've had a Yelo for 6 weeks and have so far had no probs. Picture is sharp and it plays all the discs i've tried so far.. It auto selects for different regions or if you wish you can set it to be dedicated if you just focus on R1 etc. My only 'gripe' is a electronic 'ding' sounds when you open the draw. Make sure and turn down the volume before ejecting disc, oh and the yelo screen can be distracting when listening to music. It's easy to set up took about 2 mins and was away.

Got mine from Amazon for 149.99 even better if you've got a voucher:D Delivery etc excellent. Plenty of reviews on there too and a hack for hidden menu.

Honestly I only got it because I was desperate for one and I couldn't wait to save a bit more if £150 is your limit don't think you can go wrong on this one.

Cheers

The Pioneer Dv444 details here (http://www.dvdcardiff.com/players/p444s.html) is a popular choice and can be had for around £179 through Justin at homecinemaheaven on these forums.

If you can stretch a few pounds more it does the lot.

Lynx - Mind if I ask where from? I can't see this player anywhere for £150, but it seems to have superb reviews across the board.

Plus - are you ordering it chipped, or are you happy with region 2 playback only?

Cheers,

Dan.

No problem m8. Costco are doing it for £152 inclusive of vat. They are also doing a JVC (i think) for about £130 ish. If you want i can check the make and model of the second one.
Edit--It's a JVC xv-s42.

Thanks Lynx, but it looks like you have to be a member with Costco, and its £20 to join.

Cheers anyway.

Pay the £20 and join. You will save it many times over, trust me.Tyres are a very good saving as well (Michelin). They were recently undercutting Comet,Prixons etc to the tune of £400 on a rptv.
Won't you save the price of membership on the Tosh ????? Don't be    .

IMHO you would be MUCH better off getting Justin to sort you out with a dv444 rather than going for a Yelo or Lecson. A friend at work got the yelo for christmas and it has already died on him:( I'm sure you would look back on the extra £29 as money well spent.

That seems to be the case.

I think I'm pretty much set on the 444. I haven't found anyone with a bad thing to say about it.

Anyone know if Justin can get the Silver one? (the missus wants a silver one....women!)

Dan.

I'd like to stick up for the Lecson. I've had mine for over year now and have had no problems at all and it has handled every disc thrown at it (except a couple that were badly scratched)

The Lecson is a pretty good player for £140 but also remember the Debenhams 3 year warranty at no extra charge. That makes a big difference when you think what some retailers charge for "extended" warranty

Another vote for the Lecson. I've had it over a year without any problems.

I've had no problems with it except with the third disc of the R4 Toy Story Boxset.. however, I got a firmware disc from Debenhams to upgrade the player and that sorted that problem out.

I can't knock it at all. Great player and excellent customer service from Debenhams, especially with the extra years warranty.
