I am thinking about buying Apocalypse Now Redux but have heard rumours of an SE in December can anyone confirm this?, if so do you have a website for more information?.

All I have to go on so far is . . .

Jimmyboy saying (on a thread on the forum BulletsNBabesDVDs.som) -

Remember that the Special Edition is released in the 3rd quarter of the year.

And from The R2 Project -

Darius also tells us that there will be a German 2 disk set released in December

JUST BUY TTHE BLOOMIN THING NOW! its great sound and picture! If it was me, i wouldn't be willing to wait months and months for a disc thats just gonna have a couple of extras. The quality of the transfer can't be improved, as the redux is excellent.

Not in R1.

Is the transfer better in Redux than the original? Can't find the 3 hours to watch Redux :(

I have the R1 Redux DVD and the Picture is superb (and the film too!) I would suggest you buy it, I've already watched it about 4 times!

It's better, but not by much. The colours look a bit more saturated and vibrant in Redux (compared with the original R2 release).

I read somewhere this week that Coppola had disowned the Hearts of Darkness documentary, even though his wife was responsible for it! So, unless he decides otherwise, or Paramount decide for him, we might still be deprived of this. :(

Watched Redux, I'm disappointed with this cut, the French Plantation sequence feels out of place, doesn't belong in the film in my opinion.

The extra scenes with Kilgore are terrific as is the extra Brando material. Not sure about the extra Playmates material...

The original cut was much more focused.

I can't see a problem, as the two films were released as a double pack on vhs just last year.

The original AN was my all time #1 film ever. That said, having seen Redux in the cinema (and I agree with you Panavision about the French plantation scene - for me it stops the journey) and having nmot yet compared it to my unwatched R2 original version, I for one am quite happy to wait for a special edition later this year. It may still be my #1 but there's so much other stuff and so little time.

Yep - 4 or 5 hours. May get a release in a few years if I recall correctly.

I'm still trying to get hold of a copy, but the guy whose email address is given on an Apocalypse Now appreciation site never answers. :(

I'm having a big problem with the sound on my R1 copy of Redux ... would really appreciate it if anyone else who owns it could take a look at this thread: http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=602406#post602406

... to see if they can help, or whether I've got a hookey copy.

thanks,
djb

What color is the disc surface? Is it silver or gold? If it's the former I'd suspect a pirate copy. Does the artwork on the disc and the outer look clear & sharp or dodgy colorwise?

checked the disc and the surfface is gold. the artwork on the sleeve and disc surface are OK tho could be fake I guess. I've now tried the disc on two other DVD players, both of which have a 5.1 surround hi-fi set-up, and you can still hardly hear the dialogie (speech). I suppose there's a chance that the DTS soundtrack would work, but even if it does surely it should default to DD 2.0 on a system without DTS?

Do people think i should just return it and demand my money back?

I have to agree. I love the original, I found the remake way too long and added nothing to the film. The French Plantation is pretty boring alright.
