Lots of good reviews on Amazon.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=25&url=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000VDQ38E/thedvdforums-20).

I was on the lookout for a Dyson Animal - circa £170 so was delighted to read the reviews above stating side-by-side hands on comparisons showed the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser to be better than the Dyson Animal.

Ordered...thanks Kryten!

I have one of these (from the last offer) and it's excellent. Much better than our Dyson, although admittedly it isn't an "animal" model.

How long have you owned it, and what circumstances is it used (frequency, number of pets etc)?

There are a fair number of reviews saying after 6-12 months the belt is wearing meaning the brush no longer rotates, also problems with clogging. Admittedly, the positive reviews outnumber the negatives but I was just looking for somebody who'd owned one for a while.

had it for about 4 months - still works fine and picks up fur well. We have 2 huskys and a cat so there's quite a bit to collect! The attachments are good too. I think there's a 2yr warranty and to be honest if it last me 2yrs, for £50 I'll be happy!

Website claims 12 months warranty so if it's 2 years that's even better

Are these good for wooden floors too?

WelshPete
14-01-2009, 13:33
can't answer that as we don't have any! The brush has a dial on it though that goes from rough pile to hard floor so I guess so? Double check the warranty - it could be 1yr

Thanks, ordered one too...

I have 3 cats and my Dyson has never sucked as well as it should do since I took it apart to remove a blockage!

I bought one of these at this price during the last offer. It's been very good. Only critism i'd have of it is the dust holder is small, but at least it forces you to change it. Oh and perhaps that it is very noisy.

With regards to the belt, i haven't used it enough to have any issues (i have a henry for day to day cleaning) but the manual is pretty comprehensive about stripping it down, cleaning and replacing parts which i foun reassuring. Certainly better then paying a fortune for the manufacter to do it.

Any questions just ask.

I haven't got any pets, but do need a vacuum cleaner. Is it worth contemplating this over a standard 'non pet' cleaner, as in the 'pet' bit just being fancy talk for extra 'oomph' or is it actually only more useful for pet owners?

I was in the same situation. The pet hair accessory which uses the suction to rotate a spindle is fantastic for the stairs. Easiest vacuum cleaner i've had for it.

Not according to this review (http://www.amazon.com/review/R66OY44LNGAUT/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm)

I purchased this vacuum after reading all the positive reviews about it, and I must say that I have been extremely disappointed. Though, I must say, the vacuum picks up pet hair like none other. If that's the only issue you have, and have no need for a regular vacuum cleaner to clean the rest of the messes around the house, than this is the one for you. I, however, do not have the luxury of having multiple vacuums for multiple jobs. This vacuum does not fit under anything, it's very heavy, the dust cup makes a huge mess with every empty, it doesn't clean close to the edges of the wall, and it doesn't work well on bare floors as the brush does not turn off, making it a risk to damaging nice wooden floors.
The worst issue I have has to do with the brush not turning off. While using the attachments, the brush continues to run, even when it's in the "upright, locked, position" the customer service department told me to do, it rips our carpet to shreds. There is a deep brush mark and a pie of carpet shreds underneath it after each time. Not cool. Their customer service is difficult to get to, and less than understanding. I DON NOT recommend this vacuum!

Many of the reviews openly admitted to heavy use and then complained that the belt wore down, do they want blood?! It has been mentioned above that the instructions give clear and concise strip-down instructions so if it needs a new belt every 12 months, that is fine by me, so long as it does it's job. It is after all 1/4 of the price of the equivalent Dyson (animal).

Was tempted by one of these but the always-on brush bar has put me off. We've already got the Bissell Lift-off anyway, which does have a separate switch for brush bar. I'll probably just get the pet hair attachment kit as that's about £15.

Ours just turned up. Delivered by DHL. Delivery came with a free "does your t-shirt mean your gay" jibe from the driver :|

EDIT: Just run around the living room and hall with it, the amount of muck and hair it lifted was amazing. The dust trap is pretty small so the two rooms filled it 1.5 times but still, at least the crap is not sitting in their longer than it needs to be.

First impression - very good. It does indeed "run away with itself" so you need to keep a grip of it. It's fairly bulky/heavy but noise wise, it is no more noisy than my 15 year old Vax cylinder or the Dyson DC10 that we've borrowed recently.

Not tried it on the stairs yet, the array of tools is pretty impressive but I am worried slightly about the beater bar rotating in the upright position. There seems to be a fine balance whilst it's upright between the bar being off the carpet and still touching it but for the price, I'm prepared to either prop it up with something or just lean it on the floor whilst we're using the tools.

As someone pointed out above - the instructions are very comprehensive and tell you how to strip it down and change any "consumables" such as the HEPA filter, the bulb and the belt so I am not too concerned about the belt wear problem - just replace it with a generic version if/when it goes.

Don't be put off by the burning smell when you first use it, and you may find the beater bar doesn't move at first until you run it up and down a couple of times.

Very impressed with this so far and saved £120 over the equivalent Dyson.

We've had ours for over a week, as DJBenson says It does indeed "run away with itself".
It picks up the cat and dog hair very well, we have 4 cats and 2 dogs.
The only gripe I would have it that the rubbish collector isn't very big, but that said it is easy to slot in and out (So I'm told). Well worth the £50 delivered

Don't try and tell me you didn't have a little play with it when it arrived!! I couldn't resist running round the house with it seeing how much crap it'd pick up :gag:

Mine arrived today and I have to say it blows the Dyson DC07 we have out the water! The amount of dust/dirt/grime/hair/fluff it picked up was shocking, I have to wonder what the hell the Dyson was actually doing when I vacuumed!

Will give the house a proper run around tomorrow when I get home from work and see what it's really like. I have to say the pet hair remover add-on tool is absolutely brilliant, very powerful and can see it coming in handy for the sofas etc when the dogs end up on the sofa most of the night!

Thanks Kryten for the bargain, very much appreciated, was thinking about a new Dyson or Miele vacuum and this really has saved me some much needed cash!

We ordered one of these on 1st Feb, got the confirmation and since heard nothing.

I've seen it on other sites, so expect it's a popular item. Have those who received it got another email prior to dispatch, or does it just arrive?

Just a word of warning, if you do actually have pets, the upper part of the cyclone cylinder towards the inlet tube. The other half realised the thing had stopped working properly, took one look at it and saw the huge lump of hair/dust at the top of the chamber. Easy to remove but slightly strange that a "pet" vacuum gets blocked with dog hair.

Still 100% happy with it though for the money.

Oh yeah, meant to mention that this arrived on the 13th (made a perfect gift for Valentines Day!)

Have been very impressed with how well it works, the house feels noticeably cleaner, which is quite impressive as I just don't see dust - unless it's really thick or on my TV.

Ours came through a couple of days back; just opened and assembled it. What a monster! Like campdave, we felt like slobs seeing what it'd taken off the floor. Excellent little hoover (non-TM), I'd recommend it to anyone. Thanks OP

Seems from the replies above that it's taken most people about a week.

as for the slobs, we live in a little house, and had hoovered (yes, with a hooverTM) recently, and it still picked up 3 containers ful. ugh. Accidently sucked up a plastic back leaving the contents behind too! It was like one of those tricks where you pull off a tablecloth leaving all the items behind.

I think I must be doing something wrong.

Assembled my vac and started off with the stairs and the turbo pet wotsit attachment, so far so good but the suction didn't blow me away. Then on to the carpets upstairs.

First the bedroom, gave it a quick going over and it seemed okay. Then on to another bedroom which was going very streaky. Okay with the brushes digging in I guess you will get this. However there was a emerging brown colour and close inspection showed a fine layer of dust on the carpet.

I checked out the bottom filter and it was completely clogged so I cleaned that but things didn't improve much and i'm still not convinced by the suction.
Looking back at the first bedroom and there are plenty of cat hairs hairs that it should of picked up (i.e easily dislodged and picked up by hand).
I checked that the curved pipe was firmly seated into its right place.

I'm sure i'm being a muppet somewhere along the line but i'm too tired to give it another go now, plus the neighbours kids will be tying to get to sleep!

Any tips or advice?

Thanks,

Paul

Got one late last year from Amazon. It went back within a couple of days. No where near the quality and power of the Dyson
