Hi Folks

On Friday 01/02/2002 I received an email from Gameswire.com, stating that the sale of the company should be completed within 3 working days (last Wednesday, by my reckoning) and that orders should be dispatched by the end of this week.

So far, I've heard nothing since, and Gameswire don't seem to be answering emails at the moment. I was wondering if anyone else had heard anything from them, or better still, received any games yet?

I was also wondering - how many people have been affected by this company, and has anybody been contacted by Watchdog regarding a possible investigation?

Cheers

This has way beyond a joke now - nearing a month since I ordered from them, and still nothing, but they took my money a long time ago

How many people here are in the same situation?

There not taking telephone calls - all you get is an answer machine message of what was emailed on 01/02/02:

Dear Gameswire.com Customer

We are writing to inform you that we have now received a firm written offer from one of the UK's leading online retailers which includes a commitment to fulfill all outstanding orders.

This offer is subject to contract but we every reason to believe that the agreement will be finalised within 3 working days. On this basis, we anticipate your order will be despatched to you under this agreement from the purchaser by the end of next week.

Many thanks for bearing with us during this period. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Best Regards

Customer Service Team

Yet still nothing, and more worrying is they have now stopped emailing updates on the situation, and are not responding to emails or taking telephone calls!
The whole situation is a real mess and rather worrying.
Any advice anyone?

Hi Maximus

I still haven't heard anything from them either. I've emailed them three times in the last week, but it looks like they can't be bothered to reply anymore.

I've contacted my Credit Card company now (Egg) who are sending out some forms so I can set their Disputes Department onto Gameswire. I'd suggest that you do the same.

I'm not worried about the games anymore - I can get them somewhere else - I just want my £65 back!!

Let me know (by posting a note here) if you hear anything more.

Cheers

Here's an update - I got an email from Gameswire on Saturday (23/02/2002), stating that the company had now been sold and that I'd be contacted by Royal Mail this week by the new owners of Gameswire to organise delivery or refund of my outstanding orders

As I'm getting pretty impatient now (well, it's been almost two months since they took my money - I can't afford to be without for that long) I emailed tham from their website, asking for my orders to be cancelled. I just got this email back in response...

Dear Customer

Gameswire's assets have been aquired by Software First and we are in the process of writing to all customers. You will receive a form to fill in early next week in regard to your order. I cannot be any more specific at this point as we have only just aquired Gameswire. We do however intend to ensure all orders are fulfilled where applicable.

Details such as Customer Number & Order Number will be updated in the next few days as well as other improvements to customer service. Please bear with us however as we have many issues to resolve to intergrate your details into our systems.

Yours Sincerely

Colin Childs

===== END QUOTE =====

So now we won't be getting letters until next week (it's slipped into March now). The bit that concerns me is "ensure all orders are fulfilled where applicable". This leads me to wonder - where would it not be applicable to fulfill an existing order?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid (and I'm not surprised after the chase Gameswire have led us so far), but that wording makes me think that there's a sting in the tail coming.

Let's just hope that SoftwareFirst are going to play straight with us from here on. If anybody's heard anything else on this front, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Cheers

Ordered GTA3 and a DVD remote for PS2 on Monday. DVD remote arrived today - £18.99 with free delivery.

GTA3 is out of stock, so not arrived yet. My only concern is when I ordered GTA3 was listed at £25.49 but now its gone up to £32.99. I've e-mailed and asked them to confirm I'll get it at the lower price so we'll see.

No complaints at all yet - very speedy service.

While looking through GamesWire (http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/tracker.asp?pid=19&code=269927&URL=http://www.gameswire.com), inparticular the XBox I notice a difference in price.

GamesWire - £289.99
SoftwareFirst - £294.99 :(

I have also been caught up in this little escapade. They took my money over a month ago and still nothing. I managed to get through to someone yesterday who didn't give me much more info than the emails that we have received. I have contacted my credit card company also as I can't be arsed to sit and wait while they sort things out. I am particularly agreeved as they clearly stated that the takeover company was checking stock ready to dispatch games once the deal went through. As this has not happened I can only assume the worsed.
I notice that they are still taking orders on the website.

Ordered both PS2 DVD Remote and GTA3. PS2 remote arrived the next day and GTA3 was listed as out of stock but arrived a few days later at the bargain price of £24.97.

Very impressed.
