View Full Version : PS3 Official Remote Controller...
I have two questions, if someone can help :-
1) Can I buy this from the USA and use it on my UK PS3?
2) What on earth is going on over here with them? You can't buy one for love nor money!!!
Do you mean the media remote? If so they are everywhere for about £17!

They do seem rather rare these days, know of a few people who are after one
I got a UK remote ages back for my US machine and that worked fine, since canabalised it though so that my harmony remote now works the PS3 via IR, but would say a US remote would work on a UK amchine

I brought one over Christmas. A good investment, only thing was (like you said), no where seems to have them in stock online. Got mine from Gamestation instore where they had loads of them, funnily enough they're website showed them as out of stock.
I can't see why it won't work on any PS3, my Dualshock 3 is Japanese and works fine on my UK PS3.
do they take batteries or are the rechargeable like the dualshocks?

Really? Can you tell me somewhere online that has one for £17?
I can't even get one instore, have looked in a few Game/Gamestation/HMV.

batteries
if anyone wants to control there ps3 with a harmony then it may be worth getting the full ir4ps3 pack. Its not that much more expensive than the remote and the whole thing comes ready built for you (mind built mine myself and was very easy)
Mine arrived in under a week from canada with no duty to pay
this is how simple it is to make
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wgfJAKEhZy4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wgfJAKEhZy4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
If you power the box via USB power you can even turn the PS3 on via the harmony too

I have one for sale on my thread in the general classifieds. Cheapest i could find it online was 39.99. I take it ye are talking about the bluetooth one?
HOW MUCH !!! Thats more than twice the RRP!
edit
Does this mean that they are in limited numbers or more people are using the PS3 as a media machine hence driving up demand?

playtrade have them for about 25 quid
So Blockbuster seems to be a good call, they're out of stock in my local but they're expecting a delivery for tomorrow.
If anyone can find them online for £17.99 and instock I'll give them a prize, all of my local stores are out of stock (Argos, Game, Gamestation, HMV, etc) so they're not easy to find at all.
Even 3rd party ones are going for upwards of £29!!!
OUCH! £42 on Amazon, they had them for £14.99 before Christmas!

Spotted them in HMV (Poole) at lunchtime for 17.99....
I read that theres going to be a updated version, been trying to find one since Xmas as well.
Updated how? They wouldn't go IR now would they?

They won't tie up a USB port now with an ugly IR sensor.

Updated how?
A simple volume control would be handy, and maybe a shortcut button directly to PlayTV and the web browser would be quite useful. Maybe even a standby button.
And if they can get rid or consolidate some of the buttons on the control that would also be cool. :)
Oh and add a backlight please. And add IR so I can turn my Sony tele on and off without using another remote.
Wouldnt mind an updated version either to be honest. Key things for me would be that it has backlight and volume control:)
I do like tobiasboon's idea of it linking up with my Sony TV.

The blu-Ray Starter pack they are selling comes with the official remote doesn't it? Plus a film and hdmi cable? Seen them instore HMV but can't recall the price. Online for £35 @ Amazon (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8&url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001GISOVW/thedvdforums-21) - Would work out as £17 for remote and £18 for HDMI Cable and Casino Royal...not too bad if you wanted that stuff too.
Crazy, Play (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=2&url=http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/6873942/James-Bond-Casino-Royale-Official-Sony-Blu-ray-Remote-Control-For-PS3-Blu-Ray-Starter-Pack/Product.html) says it does come with the official remote.
It is also a whole 5p cheaper at ASDA (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=27&url=http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/asda/9999293.product). Not sure which would be better income for forums.
I presume the shortage comes from xmax and the play-tv addon they got. Glad I got mine along time ago, great bit of kit :)

Same starter kit, but with Black Hawk Down is available for £32 at Play.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=2)
Alternatively, they have the actual official remote at www.shopto.net for only £17.69.

Ooooh, so close the a prize! They're not taking orders at Shopto.
Thanks for the other suggestions but I've already got a cable and Casino Royale.
£15.99 delivered and INSTOCK at Gameplay (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=51&url=http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=PX0004&title=blu-ray_disc_remote_control_for_ps3)
Typical, I picked it up from my local BB last weekend. They had to get it shipped in from somewhere else too.
Thanks anyway T4V!
