Good start to the new series. Jack quite understated - I'm sure he'll warm up later :D Looks like the lady President's son who was in Redemption has been murdered. I can't believe Tony's gone bad - I refuse to believe it!

For Tony to be bad he has to actually be an accomplice to the murder of women and children. If that happens, then he's a bad guy.

I think the Lord Marshall is behind it all.

Has Jack still not learnt not to interview suspects near the window :D

And couldn't he just have pressed 1471 and called Tony back :D

Why are the computer operators in 24's US Government agencies always such miserable unhelpful assholes?

I dunno, I dunno, maybe I'm just not making myself clear. I don't want to **** with you Jack, but I've got the connections, I've got the government organisation, I got the muscle to shove enough of CTU so far up your stupid wop ass, that you'll **** sockets for a year!

Have you a) ever worked in computers or b) dealt with US govt agencies.... Take a combination of both, answers your question....

For a show that is basically introducing a whole new cast, it did pretty well. Excellent opening sequence, even if the kid appears to be harder than both Sydney Bristow and Michael Vaughn in a similar situation. I really wanted Dr. Phlox to shove the motherboard in the terrorist's face and scream "WELL YOU'RE CLEARLY GOING TO KILL ME ANYWAY SO YOU FIX IT, BITCH!" but it probably wouldn't have fit with his character's personality and I don't think he could do it without sounding uber-camp.

Speaking of which, "Fat Tony's Terrorist Shack" seems a bit far-fetched, mind. Yeah, the government ****** all over his chips, but why take it out on civilians? What's he going to demand, money? Or possibly some more pies? And what was with the ridiculously pointless slow-motion reveal of Tony's face? Why not just have the photo in normal resolution to start with? I felt like I was watching Catchphrase: "Ye've picked the centre square, Jack - ye've got foive seconds...here ya go."

Kinda glad they offed the president's son off-screen. Another "teenage angst" storyline isn't something I'd welcome. The president isn't doing herself any favours either - TV reports 300,000 casualties, but less than 20 minutes later she has revised that down by 100,000. That's revisionism Comical Ali would be proud of. Bring on Geena Davis, she'd kick some ass. It sounds like Logan is still alive though, albeit probably with a bit of a stiff shoulder.

Schector (Fat ******* meets Star Wars alien) was pretty funny too. I'd love to be the government agent that goes around photographing shady types like him. "Yeah, Johnson - makes sure he's wearing shades AND making a phone call. That'll add 20% to the suspicionometer!"

Meanwhile, Jack finally got to chat to Tony for 5 seconds. The struggle in his voice not to shout "DAMN IT!!" when Tony hung up was fantastic. I wonder if the writers have a bet who can wait the longest before including it in a script.

Also loved the terrorist at the end. "You've made me smash up a car with a little girl in it, jump on cars, fire rounds near civilians, and beat up a beloved Star Trek character. But I simply cannot fathom why you are now taking control of an aeroplane. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???"

Just about to watch episode 2, but since you're clearly all desperate for the bingo board:

And no, I didn't include the Ford plug. Hell, people have to drive something - it's not like they did the horrendous Toyota "zoom in" like the series 4 to 5 teaser.

Jack Bauer Kill Count: 0

Episode rating: 7/10

Best moment: Jack wearing Columbo's coat.

A fantastic opener..... but let's face it, after season 6 the only way was up!

So what do you think fellow forumites... Is Tony really bad or just deep undercover?

Finally, Annie Wersching (aka Renee Walker) is so freakin' hot! There hasn't been such an attractive red-head on TV since Gillian Anderson in The X Files. GOD BLESS THE RED HEADS - I LOVE 'EM. :notworthy :luv:

Two of em - Dr. Phlox was the scientist who was kidnapped, and Shawshank's warden (Bob Gunton playing the Chief of Staff) was in an episode of TNG. :dork:

Good episode to open the season, seems this could be putting a slight new twist on the show with the new characters, but you know it will just come back to Jack going it alone as usual :D

Bill Guarnere, as in Band of Brothers?! I completely missed him! What government dude was he then?

He appeared and briefed the lady Pres outside the war room on the impending ATC threat.

And then appeared in the Oval office. Looks likely he'll be in the show full time.

Was okay. Washington backdrop was refreshing. Usual over load of events for the President to deal with. But already you can see the stupid sub plot with the Presidents husband who is bound to be captured, and anal admin staff at the FBI.

I'll give it four episodes before I decide to commit.

If I ever go to America I'm goingt o be very disappointed if the air in L.A. isn't yellow coloured and the air in Washington isn't blue.

Good start. Like everyone, I really can't believe Tony has gone bad. they paced the episode well considering how many storylines they're trying to seemingly cram in.

Tony will be undercover to try and find out who the mole is. Bit obvious given the questions he was asking that he was a minor player in the plots/plans.

Got 3 and 4 now.. Can I wait until the missus gets home?

So in order to kidnap an unarmed scientist, who presumably they want alive and with working fingers, they choose a busy street and crash TWO vans into his car at high speed and on top of that they fire randomly into the air just for the hell of it!

And could it BE any more panto:

"OK Jack, I'll talk...if you want to find Soul Patch, you need to look...", thwap thwap, "Argh, I've been conveniently killed!"
"Damn it!"

Also has a starring appearence in Redemption.

Incidently, that imdb link I posted last page for Bill Guarnere is laden with spoilers if you click through the episode listings, so careful.

Normally I wouldn't respond... but I am mortified that I forgot this considering I recently rewatched the whole of TNG from start to end and those are good episodes.

Damn my lack of ST nerdiness... bah!!!!!

As another aside I do rate Tony Todd quite highly .. he was obviously in some superb TNG and DS9 eps (especially the latter) and I loved his part on the remake of Night of the Living Dead... He was criminally underused in Chuck...

The Die Hard 2 model jets looked vastly superior to the dodgy CGI models on this. For once I wished I was watching the inferior SD version as the HD really highlighted how ropey the FX were.

A fantastic opener..... but let's face it, after season 6 the only way was up!

I would say the best season opener for a long, long, long time.
There was a nice slow (but not dull) build that you were left thinking whats going to happen, rather than the "wham bam, thats blow something up" of some seasons.

So what do you think fellow forumites... Is Tony really bad or just deep undercover?
Nah, well not 100% bad anyway, maybe a little bit grey but not completly on the dark side.

Finally, Annie Wersching (aka Renee Walker) is so freakin' hot! There hasn't been such an attractive red-head on TV since Gillian Anderson in The X Files. GOD BLESS THE RED HEADS - I LOVE 'EM. :notworthy :luv:

Ditto - you cant be a red-head female FBI agant, although I found her more on the :n0rty: side, where as Scully is more of a:luv:.

Thinking about this episode (and the 2nd one) more, I am glad I watched Redemption now as it gives a rationale for what the other guy from Sangala (the one whose brother was killed by Jack in Redemption) is doing.

I had to wonder how he survived a land mine in the face without losing a limb or worse

the FBI woman said "dammit" in the car when they were following the sniper I think - but I guess that doesn't count

Tony can't be totally bad - I think he's undercover!

a bump up as next Tuesday (i think its then), sky 2 is showing all 24 eps from 8am onwards.

Worth trying to watch if like me you for some reason didn't bother first time around (i just couldn't be arsed after 4-5 eps, someone tell me if it gets worse/better)
