Does anyone have any information on a possible/rumoured release of this under-rated masterpiece, on any region???
I'm sure I read about 18 months ago that something was in the pipeline, but nothing has happened since........

This is another movie that I am eagerly awaiting to be released on DVD. It IS Scorsese's finest hour for me! A genuine classic.

The King of Comedy (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0085794) is a film so good even Sandra Bernard couldn't ruin it.

In the book that accompanied Momentum's R2 release of Angel Heart, The King of Comedy was listed as a future Director's Chair release from them. Still no sign of it though, along with the also-listed The Cotton Club, Jacob's Ladder, Chaplin, The Producers and The Sure Thing.

Did this get released on May 14 as planned? I can't find it for sale on any sites (not through want of trying!!)

Really hope it did finally get a release at long last.

This is one of my favorite Scorsese/De Niro collaborations: I remember the first time I watched this film, it felt somewhat over-the-top (a bit like Sidney Lumet’s NETWORK, in fact) but I have since grown to love it. Of course, Jerry Lewis was never better and the film itself, in my opinion, is one of the last great films: in the last 20 years cinema as an entertainment/art form has deteriorated steadily, and very few films today are worth watching more than once!

In any case, here’s the last word, until now, on this project as stated by Fox executive Peter Staddon himself in another online Forum:

“We've been working on this release for months now, and have all the additional material ready and finished, with the exception of the commentary tracks. We are still trying to get all involved together for the recording but some current film projects keep getting in our way.

May 14th is not happening, but when it is released it will be done properly.”

Sounds promising. I'd rather wait and know I'm getting a decent dvd rather than them release it rushed and not as good as it could have been...

FOX said they are getting some more work done it, maybe a commentary from Marty???

I was surprised this picture gets average reviews, Pupkin is a terrific character!!!!!!!!!!!:notworthy

Finally:

The unsung Martin Scorsese classic The King of Comedy arrives on 12/17, just in time for the theatrical premiere of the most highly-anticipated Scorsese flick in years, Gangs of New York. The King of Comedy is presented for the first time in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, with English, French and Spanish mono tracks, plus a making-of featurette, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, a still gallery and the trailer. This one will set you back a mere $19.95.

Looks like the commentary has been dropped :(

i know that the proposed Warners boxset has been constantly delayed by Marty's seemingly never-endign tweaking of 'Gangs', so Fox probably just got ****** off with waiting and decided to release it anyway, which i think is a shame personally:|

And the extras don't sound too great. I bet the extras are only a few minutes long. 'Featurette' is always a bad sign.

All sounds very dissapointing after the high hopes they raised.

Yeh, the extras could be dodgy but at least there are some there and really, having such a good film on DVD at last is the main thing surely. Particularly as it's likely to be a really cheap purchase.

NO!

i'd happily pay £50 for this with a Marty commentary. we shouldn't be satisfied with JUST having the film on dvd, it should be the best it can be!
