I've never seen an Anime film and know almost nothing about the genre. I feel like I might be missing out.

Can any fans out there point me in the right direction of

a) the First anime film that I should buy/watch to get me started and

b) a decent website where I can learn everything I need to know should I want to learn more.

Thanks

I'd go for :-

Akira
Princess Mononoke
Blood the last Vampire
Ghost In the Shell
Ninja Scrolls

It depends on what sort of thing you're after

Akira/GitS are cyberpunk/scifi

Mononoke is Fantasy/Magic

Ninja Scroll is ninja/HK style

Not sure how to define Blood myself

check out the reviews on www.animeondvd.com and you should find something you like the look of

I'm no expert, but i don't think I've ever seen an animated film as moving as "My Neighbour Totoro" in the whole of my life. Absolutely stunning. I'd also recommend Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service and Akira.

Then you should check out Grave of the Fireflies (if you haven't already) :)

the cheapest version of Totoro is the R3 from coolashop. Check out dave's review at dvdtimes.
