I used to really love a game on the PS2 called Splashdown 2, where you'd drive this little ski-boat thing. One of the things that was really cool about it was that (although pre-determined) often the laps would change as you were playing.

eg.
Lap 1 you'd go round, and there'd be a big water cascade that you'd have to avoid.
Lap 2 the route would change because of the water cascade in the previous lap and you'd be forced to go a different way.
Lap 3 the cascade had gotten worse, and it was even tougher to travel upstream, plus now there was lots of flotsam and jetsam in the water to avoid.

Are there any racing games out there at the moment like this where things change from lap to lap?

Preferably on PC or PS3, as I don't own a Wii or XBOX 360. :)

Thanks!!

Motorstorm and Motorstorm PR allow you to knock things down that'll cause you and the other running problems the next lap.

The flatout series also has dozens of physics objects around the track that can get knocked down and block the track. You can even deliberately drive into some obstacles to cause problems for the cars behind you.

Stunt Race FX used to have a cow crossing the road, or stuff like that, on the odd lap. You could never hit them, though :)

wave race 64 on some courses had the water level raising and lowering on different laps making obstacles appear/disappear, and with the coast line it meant you had to take different routes and on other courses gates would open giving you access to different routes. it's a brilliant game. can't remember if blue storm had similar things?

also there was a really old pc game where the track changed if you ran over buttons on the road, can't remember waht it was called but it's really crap.

edit - noticed you want current pc or ps3 games - sorry!

The Wave Race games are pretty similar, with changes in tides/etc forcing you to change route or opening up different paths. Games like Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing also have changes occuring on some courses.

I believe WR:Blue storm did that, you're right spatch. I didn't play it that much, WR64 was miles better. Mario Kart does it to a lesser extent.

It definitely did. Still dig this out occasionally, great game.

I never had WR64 but I thought Blue Storm was great.

Speed Devils on the Dreamcast was one of my favourite racing games and had all sorts of things happening on the track...even a dinosaur trying to eat you :D
