Booking for the Sun's latest round of 'cheap' holidays is now open online at http://www.ukholidaysinthesun.co.uk for people who've been sent a reference number.

The code words etc can be found on various fora such as money saving expert but I'm not sure what our policy is here so I've refrained from giving the full details.

Isn't the essence of the promotion that you buy a newspaper rather then find a bunch of 'entrepreneurs' who chipped in to make the 20p outlay more palatable and then sell the readily available codes to the highest bidder?

If this is the case then we can't allow this thread to remain open.

FWIW, I went on one of these once with the family and you can imagine the clientele that a £9.50 holiday attracts.

I went on one once. Never again

Are they still touting them with the old nudge, nudge, wink, wink, "Can't get the little lady preggers? Try one of our fantastic holiday offers. Thousands have come back with buns in the oven"

While the promo is geared in the paper to collecting the tokens, people who have already been on a previous sun holiday are also encouraged to do an online booking where they get early access to bookings and can just use the code words directly without the need to keep the physical tokens.

I don't believe it is a requirement of an online booking that you have the tokens, just the sun holiday reference number you were sent in the post.

I did laugh that people were selling the words on ebay, because many voucher sites have them freely available (whether they should or not is another matter)

Some aren't a bargain by the time you pay for linen, passes, perhaps an upgrade. But some combinations of date/site definitely are.

I've been to Butlins at Minehead and Bognor and purchased an upgrade at each. My rooms were clean, no frills and the holidays were enjoyable. YMMV

For my own part, I tend to avoid half-term and have found the parks half full and certainly have an assortment of people. At Butlins it didn't appear anywhere near exclusively populated by the lower reaches of society. Lots of young families.

I was worried I might find the experience trashy, but in the end we had a nice time.

Indeed. Not my cuppa tea, but my parents went on a few and always had a good time. But they pay for all the upgrades and when that is done it would be cheaper to have a weekend in Amsterdam (which is something I would rather do).

Oh, and I wasn't keen on caravans :)

We've done a few of these holidays before and have to say we had a great time, although we didn't do the 'entertainment' part of the holiday camps in the evening, it looked a bit scary/smokey/loud.

When we checked the prices to stay directly at a couple of the places, it was actually the same bar about 50p as it was to book with the Sun holidays. I'm not saying they are all like that, but it was fairly interesting to note.

Jimlad: I second that......it won't be much of a holiday with tonnes of Sun readers on the same beach
