That was a decent start i think. the tone has changed although, i'm not sure if it is reminiscent of the early years, time will tell. courtney cox was ok and it's nice to see she'll be playing a ruthless money maker, as a muse for the "other cox" on the show.
new interns had some good scenes, too. laughed at the callous intern and her "chubby" story.
oh, and like the new closing credits idea, as well:thumbs:

I liked it, it did feel a bit more like the old style though still a bit different. Loving the fact that it's finally in widescreen and the end-credits sequence was great. Bring on more!
EDIT: And the second episode was much more like vintage Scrubs! Wonderful.
Maybe its because I was expecting the worst and that its been so long since I dragged myself through season 7, but I got to say I pretty much loved that.
Thought the 2nd episode especially was great, even if it did sacrifice some humor in order to carry that extra emotional weight. The first episode did actually make me laugh quite a bit, which is something I found myself not doing in the later series.
Okay so the show is never going to reach the highs of say the first 3 series but I actually wanted to watch these characters again and maybe the shows break has helped this. I can take the odd bit of slapstick goofy moments, like the Janitor tripping JD up in this episode, because they can be quite surprising when used sparingly- something the last few seasons didnt do.
I dont think these two episodes containted a 'cox rant' did they? Cant remember one anyway, which is a good thing as they got a bit tired. Dr.Cox is a much better character than someone who turns up to just to do a minute long rant- and they were much better suited to when he really lost it with another character.
Oh and I did quite like the new interns despite fearing they would feel simply shoehorned in for the sake of the show post-Braff (and the probable other departures because of this).
Sorry, didn't work for me. First episode was ok, quite liked Courtney Cox's character & there was several chuckles to be had but the 2nd episodes was completely humour free, I couldn't even raise a smile & was struggling to remain awake.
Bonus points though for finally getting to see Elliot in HD widescreen. :)
Not quite up to seasons 1-3 but much kudos to the writers for realising that the show had turned into the tedious adventures of Captain Wacky in an overlit technicolour hospital and dialled it back to something resembling when it was one of the best shows on TV.

Glad to see that along some of the dodgy writing they wrote out Turk's ridiculous facial hair :D
Just watched episode 1. Thought it was good stuff, certainly better than the season 7 material.
I don't recall the classic early seasons being as unfunny as the 2nd episode I witnessed today?!? :|

Thought episode 2 was brilliant personally, and for me it was funnier than the first episode - the first half at least. Just great stuff from JD + Turk. Good choice of Death Cab too
Liked the end credits too, not sure about the fake director interjections though, at least they seemed fake.

Wasn't that the old Mayor from The Wire? It's usually a good indication that an ok episode is coming when the creator directs it.
The whole show does feel a bit different now, but at least they acknowledge that.
Oh, and I liked The Nielsens....;)
I'm really going to miss Scrubs when it's gone. People may say it's gone down hill the past few years but it really is my favourite show on TV by a long way. The first two episodes of the new season were great. Episode two was especially good with a tone reminiscent of the first few years. you just know the writers are going to come up with a special ending for the show.
The funniest bit of the first episode was JD pointing to the ABC logo, the rest of the ep was pretty slow.
The first half of the second ep was pretty funny.
Didn't realise they where doing a Season 8, thought 7 was the end. Still my fav ever TV show, must have watch Season 1 to 6 about a dozen times. Didn't rate 7 though.
Can I ask how people are watching it or can that not be discussed.
Dave
We're watching it on TV. In America.

It's finally in widescreen!!! At long last! It's been shot in 16x9 for years so never sure why they didn't broadcast in it.
Also good to see that Aziz Ansari is in it, which pretty much kills the 'office spinoff' which then became the 'new show' as both he and Amy Poehler were down for it. I'm not 100% sure he suits the show after the first ep, but he's awesome so hope he settles in well. (He's Ed, the guy with the cell phone).

Not as far as I'm aware.
Anyone watched ep 3 & 4?
The series started off well but for me its gone back into blandness.
I mean FFS putting JD and Elliot back together again? That whole conversation they had in black silhouette bored me to tears. Shame as I used to really like the show.
Oh and it should stop trying to be deep and meaningful. Its a comedy, its attempt at deep is more like shallow.
I thought there was a slight increase in  's this week from last week, only because of the return of the Janitor. :notworthy
Disappointed to lose Courtney Cox so quickly, she was a breath of fresh-air amongst the staleness.
Courtney Cox making fun out of Dr. Cox's name made me laff.

Is it bugging anyone else that Kelso is still in the opening credits?
I know it's really trivial but it just stands out for me.
Ohh and agree that it's begun to slip back into banality.
Is it me or is Sarah Chalke looking extremely hot this season? :luv:

I thought they were pretty good myself. Was wondering if they'd gotten rid of the Todd until his appearance in the second episode. First of the two episodes didn't have enough (or any) Turk in it though.

Well he's still a cast member so why shouldn't he be in the opening credits?
I must say that this season of Scrubs has been a complete revelation. They really have upped the standards. I thought Season 6 and 7 were just too superficial and the characters still acting like children. From the first 4 eps it seems like everyone has grown up and have been brought back down to Earth and all the better for it. Scrubs at its best was a great show because it was serious quite often and events carried an emotional weight to them. Season 8 seems to grasp this and figure out that after 8 years we don't need wacky adventures, we're tuning in for the characters and we are finally getting some payoffs. I will be sad when the show ends this season and am still on the fence whether I'm rooting for Scrubs: The Next Generation. If season 8 turns out to be as good as its looking it might be a nice bookend to the whole show.
The last scene of the 4th episode with JD and Elliot was particularly touching and well done. Oh and Elliott is fit as ever!
Absolutely loved The Janitors plans for getting rid of Dr MonicaFromFriends. Especially the photoshop one.
And of course "Johnny!"
Is there somerhing wrong with me or am I not the only one who wants to knob the JD's intern?

she is fine.
there was actually flashes of "early scrubs" this episode. still not consistent yet. but it's just nice that it's trying to recapture the glory of the early years, instead of continuing in the direction it was going.

The studio changed the season running order, these two were meant to be shown earlier. Also I don't think we get any more new episodes till March now.

The first episode did seem like it should have been shown earlier, in fact as it was so rubbish, they shouldn't have bothered at all!
Thankfully I enjoyed the 2nd episode much more.

Courtney Cox making fun out of Dr. Cox's name made me laff.
Yeah that was great :D I think she has decent comedy timing.
The only way I can see that they could have switched the running order was by swapping ep 4 and 5 around.
Eps 1-3 - Cox guest stint.
Ep 4 produced sounds like it was ep 5 broadcast.
Ep 5 was the big JD and Elliot ep which was moved forward.
Ep 6 was the follow up to that episode.
Not quite sure why they felt the need to fiddle with the running order but it wasn't too obvious unlike NBC's attempts...
Enjoyed both of them, particularly the later one.

Well he's still a cast member so why shouldn't he be in the opening credits?
Just that he's retired so it stands out when he's assisting the others in pinning up the x-ray. The Janitor is a cast member since the first season but isn't in the credit sequence.

The studio changed the season running order, these two were meant to be shown earlier. Also I don't think we get any more new episodes till March now.I was told earlier this week that ABC's plan for "Scrubs" was to air repeats of this season's first six episodes from now until the show moves to a new timeslot on Wednesdays in mid-March. I'm guessing somebody did the math and realized there would be too many remaining episodes to air them all between March 18 and the end of the season, because now I'm told there will continue to be back-to-back originals on Tuesdays for at least the next two weeks.

Due to budget cuts they can't have all the main cast in every episode, so expect a lot of mysterious absences.
Fair play, I've never seen a show that I thought had gone beyond redemption turn the corner so well. The show is now reminding my why I bought the boxsets of the first few seasons. Congrats to the writers/producers.

Its surprising, isn't it - I forgot that at one point, Scrubs used to be quite thoughtful, charming and quite funny. Rather than the slapstick clownfest that it turned into over the last couple of years.
This season has redeemed it quite considerably by going back to its roots and it's all the better for it.

Caught up with episodes 5-8 yesterday and thought they were all particularly good, it's really come back into it's own after the last couple of seasons. The muppets were surreal but worked absolutely fine, as long as we don't get a complete magical fantasy episode we should be ok :)
Don't know why it irks me but I still think Kelso's lines are the worst, him going on about him and Dr. Cox being brothers every few minutes needs to be cut right down really.

People still watching? I thought last week's was rather crap but this week picked it up quite a bit, even if it did follow their standard "3 people with something to say" formula.
Have to say I think I prefer the current interns to the ones they've had in the past, they're making a better effort of having them involved and making them more likeable.
So, the finale tomorrow. Its gonna be sad to see it go, I read they have over 50 previous guest stars in for it.
The last few episodes were very poor in my opinion. The only good thing about the barbados eps was Teds version of "Hey Ya".
This season has been way better than the past few but it's now past it's sell by date. I don't think there is legs for a spin off neither.
Still it's had some great moments over the 8 seasons and it can at least bow out on a relative high.

I think the season started off really promising but the last few episodes have certainly dropped in quality.
The 3rd-last episode aired last night and the two-parter finale airs tonight.

i can't shake the feeling it went south after the introduction of the 'kim' character. not her fault but that's where i always peg it to. something just changed with the feel of the show. everything before was class, everything after was hit and miss with the misses getting greater the longer it went on.
really cannot see this coming back in any form, now.

Thought it was an excellent finale, couldn't have managed them doing something much better than that.
Can you imagine if the end of season 7 was the finale episode? :gag: I think they must have known ABC would pick it up as they wouldn't have risked that being the last episode, would they? I sort of wish they could edit season 7 out of history and go back and refilm it now.
Notice that John McGinley didn't really feature in the end outtakes apart from once v. briefly, perhaps he's not much of a jokester :p

I gave a cheer during the end sequence with all the old characters when certain faces like Hooch and Lonny appeared. I was also happy to see a reappearance by the most gorgeous girl JD ever dated back from season 1. Can't remember the character's name but she was the one who turned out to be a drug addict and said "I miss you" in this episode.
I think the janitor's real name is Jan I. Tor.

I didn't recognise the girl who said I Miss You. I remember the drug addict girl but didn't think she was the same girl, then again I guess it has been 7 years.
Was quite surprised for it to turn out that JD did in fact put the penny in the door :D
Plenty of other guest stars that didn't feature in the end, you can't have them all: Heather Graham (surpised, she was quite a main character), Dick Van Dyke, Justin Bateman, Sean Hayes, Tara Reid (I thought she was at first, but it was Amy Smart), Mandy Moore, Heather Locklear...

Just watched the final episode and thought it was very well handled, like most i own the first 5 seasons then when the quality dropped i gave up, was a fitting end but would have loved a little more budget to have got a few of the people mentioned above in!

In the section where JD is watching his life on the screen John McGinley is in a scene with a child on his lap. That child is his real life son who has downs. He is the reason McGinley took the scrubs role so he would have regular work close to home. I seen him interviewed where he said he never hangs around the set anymore than he has to.
I quite enjoyed the final ep and it was a really good way to end the show.
I may have cried a little bit. Great ending, I'm happy and sad.
Sad to see one of the best comedies in years leave our shores! I shall miss the random day dreams of JD and the man love of him and Turk. If America can equal this I'll be very surprised!

It looks like it's not over, there'll be a new season but it will be a different show. Turk, Dr. Cox and the Janitor will be regulars, JD and Elliot will do 6 episodes as a transition.

He will have to complete rewrite the show. All three of those are pretty dull characters on their own and if they try make them wacky without JD it wont work.

Just finished up season 8 on DVD - loved the ending; a touching, reminiscent vibe couldn't have been any more appropriate for JD's character - nice walk down characters of the past alley as well - 'Hooch is crazy...'
Good idea to go in a different direction with the next season as well - hopefully they won't ruin it.
Loving the fact that it's finally in widescreen
V. disappointed that this appeared in full frame when S8 finally started on E4 last night.
I know that the US DVD release was also in 4:3 so perhaps that's the version that they are selling worldwide for some reason.
