DVDFile review (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_4/evildead_bookofthedead.html)

I'd read that first if you already have the Elite version like me....

So unless you are a total diehard, I'd go with the standard edition, or better yet, find the old Elite version which has a better transfer but retains most of the extras.

That’s pretty damning.

Fair enough though.

I've ordered the R2, I had ordered the R1 but cancelled due to the fact both regions are Identical.:brickwall

Since I own a giant 4:3 telly, I’m sticking to the Elite version, which suits all my requirements down to the ground and also presents the film at the correct aspect ratio.

To be honest, the only thing that would make me consider replacing it would be a copy of Within the Woods, which I’ve not only seen but actually run through my own Super 8 projector – I had to get my brother to rush it across London when Scott Spiegel turned up at a Scala Cinema horror blowout with the only copy. The presentation was appalling – unsurprisingly: an amateur cine projector is hardly going to have much impact in a large-screen auditorium! – but I’ve rarely seen an audience so enraptured.

I don't think I'm going to bother replacing my Elite version - as the Elite is in the OAR, and fits on the shelf. The Book Of The Dead wouldn't fit on my shelf, and has a worse picture anyway.

Yeah, I'm the same as you guys, I'll be sticking to my Elite version.

The really great news is that Elite have just dropped the price of their Evil Dead Collector's Edition to $14.98!

does anyone know if the rg2 and rg1 sets are going to be identical or not,i have both on pre order but rg2 is about £7 cheaper , but would have the rg1 if there is more stuff on it like a documentary (discovering the dead, i think!) which is not mentioned on the rg2 description

anyone know????

To be honest, I couldn't give a damn about any packaging, so I'm not in the slightest bit sold on the new edition.

The fact it has a cropped, inferior quality picture just seals the deal with the dead cheap Elite version for me.

Is the Elite version the one you can buy in Woolworths etc? ie R2

Hmmmm.....

I had been looking forward to this for a while, and as much as I would like to get my hands on the new cover, think I will also just stick with my Elite version. ;)

No - the Elite is the R1 (actually I think it's R0) special edition.

But the review is of the R1 & I see no reason why AB would remaster the R2 transfer when they only released ED on R2 10 minutes ago.

You assume that the recent R2 release was visually on a par with the Elite release, when in fact it was, by all accounts, inferior. The new R1 probably uses the same digital widescreen master as the R2, meaning that (NTSC/PAL differences and compression jobs aside) the new releases should look very similar. And both inferior to Elite's much older effort.

Why not purchase the Elite version & the Book of the dead version. Keep the Elite disc and the BotD packaging and flog the rest on Ebay? Problem solved, least that is what I'm thinking of doing :)

Another review :

Seems as though the picture quality is not as easy to say that one is 'better' or 'worse'.
