When does the new series start here on FX in UK? I saw in The Times guide they said next Thurs 8/1 10pm, but that episode seems to be an old one according to Sky Planner. Anyone know when it starts for definite? Thanks

There is a bit of confusion with this. These episodes are new to FX - but they've already been shown on BBC3.

If there are any brand-new episodes from the latest series (currently showing in America) then it will be shown on BBC3 first!

Aha that explains it, thanks both.

I have just started watching Family Guy after people I work with starting talking about it - got to say I was laughing my socks off when I started watching it.

Does anyone know what series they are running on FX at the moment, if its later than series 1 I might try to get a boxset or something.

Cheers

FX are all over the place, but most are later than season 1. Infact the episode that is meant to be new has been shown before.

FX are showing season 1-4 and BBC3 are doing 5 and 6, its taken me a while but I think I have manage dto see almost all of them now just a few more from the Beeb. Some of them are ballbustingly funny.

Can anyone explain to me why there is a discrepancy between the US and UK series numbering?
The most recent UK boxset released on dvd is titled series 7, but in actual fact contains episodes that were show last year in the US as season 6 :?:

It's because when Fox released the series here in the UK, they split each season on half - but only from season 4! So season 5 on DVD here is actually the second half of season 4. And season 6 is actually the first half of season 5, ect. There are also other factors in this: the series was cancelled twice in America, but came back by popular demand. Over here, the DVD for the season 3 boxset also contained episodes from season 2 because in America, the second season (as it was broadcast) only contained a small number of episodes - which is why in America "Family Guy" is released in Volumes rather then Seasons!

Yes, they are. As I've explained, the "new" episodes that FX are advertising are new to them - but they have already been shown on BBC3. Any brand-new episodes will be shown on BBC3 first - unless FX buys the rights!

American Dad is another matter. BBC3 did show the first half of season 1, but for some reason, they stopped. Then shortly after FX started repeating these episodes, but then followed these old episodes with the UK exclusive showing of the second half of season 1 and the whole of season 2. So, as far as I am aware, FX do have the rights to show brand-new episodes of American Dad. Though when they are going to show the latest (third) season is yet unknown. I think the BBC have given up on American Dad, due to either poor ratings, or Fox asked for too much money from the BBC3 for the rights to show it!

Same here - only started watching it before xmas! Stewey and Brian have me in stitches. Although some episodes barely raise a titter! Does anyone have any recommendations as to whether the American dvds or the UK ones are the better ones to get? Or indeed which seasons are better?

Season 5 (UK) is probably my fav. Paying for the boxset alone was worth it just for the first episode "PTV". But I'm a very big fan of the show. The boxsets are dirt cheap, and well worth picking up.

It doesn't matter - they're both the same! But I'd say from season 6 onwards the show really starts to loose it a bit. There are too many flachbacks and Peter goes from being lovably stupid to just annoying!

There's a thread here about it too: http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=479769

I actually found the latter epsiodes quite funny although only half way through season 6 at the moment and looks like it will stay that was as the BBC will be returning to the first episode of S1 from Thursday night so if you want to start from the begining here is your chance and record FX so once you have seen the first 4 seasons you will be able to see the rest straight away.
