Whoever decided to give "Rupert" an American accent needs shooting....completely spoiled what was a perfectly watchable bit of tosh :)

Pure pap, that makes Torchpoop look good.

Also, what's with the stupid title? Looks like they had to change it at the very last minute and only had a 1980's video editor to put the text on screen.

Must have taken them ages to come up with that.

I kept expecting him to burst out in full Gene Genie mode...

Will give this a few more episodes as you can't always tell with the first one.

I'm disapointed that there is no 'Quatro' in it! Rupert should have a london accent, not american!

Are ITV coing to try to flog it to the states?

The demon guy looked like the Hitcher from the Mighty Boosh.

Complete rubbish I thought, but then I don't like Dr Who or Torchwood so I don't know what I was expecting :)

which is odd as buffy was shot on an absolutely tiny budget for the first season or two. How much cheaper can you get ?

UK tiny is still worlds apart from US tiny. And as a general rule of thumb their shows look a lot better anyway. Ours always happen to look like Kids TV shows.

I thought this was truly bad TV- I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Reminded me of Primeval. Bad acting, dodgy plots, awful accents and teens that are too trendy. A complete waste of an hour of my life.

Watchable fluff that's very similar to Buffy, but a very poor relation.

I knew things would be bad when that god awful title sequence began, my only consolation is that the software used for Knightmare is still getting some use.
Even the title itself looks like someone knocked it up in MS Paint.

I'd rather they'd have bought back Hex (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0423668/) which at least tried harder than this.

04-01-2009, 11:44
Hmmm.... well I actually thought it wasn't too bad really. Watchable. Good, but not brilliant. And not half as good as Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I do think it may get a little better though, in the remaining 5 episodes. But it's not a show I'd bother recording if I was out/away. It doesn't have that "Do not miss" factor for me. Nor would I bother watching a rerun of the series or buy the upcoming DVD release.

Good, but not that good.

With kids aged 8 and 13, it perfectly fills the Dr Who/Merlin/Robin Hood popcorn-hour void until something else comes along. They loved it.

I'd just finished watching a marathon run of 7 episodes of Supernatural before watching ITV's Demons. BIG MISTAKE!! The difference in production values made Demons seem 100x worse than it was... Scratch that - it was as bad as I thought. Lets just say:

Supernatural = CGI Monsters
Demons = Guy in a plastic beak

Nuff said!!

Watched the repeat yesterday on ITV2. Very poor indeed.

My first thought when the bad guy turned up at the beginning (the one in black with all the teeth) was, "Hey, ITV have given the new Doctor Who a cameo"

:D

well it was rubbish, but watchable enough - as others have said it sort of fills that Saturday teatime slot.

What is annoying is the utter lack of originality in it. They haven't tried to do anything new at all. Plus the episode made no sense whatsoever - vampires hunting the kid (by watching him a bit?), then decide to come up with a convoluted to plan to capture him - well why did they want to capture him ? why not just kill him straight off ?

yes but Supernatural is not really suitable for the younger kids whereas this is.

Have this still to watch on Sky+ as one of our family TV shows, although the kids dont appear to be chomping at the bit to see it.

After reading this thread not sure if I should remind them or not.

I liked it and thought it had some good monsters, the one with the hat was particularly menacing looking, and the one in the bar scene was cool. It's so close to buffy its verging on Plaigarism though. And the beginning didn't bode well, with a 'in france they call it a' pulp fiction rip off dialogue leading straight into exposition. That jarred. But then I got into it and found myself enjoying it, which is more than I can say for Primeval. At least its I can give it my full attention derivative whereas Primeval is can only watch it whilst doing something else to be able to enjoy it.

Glenister looks bored and unhappy, saddled with a ridiculous pointlessly American accent.

Rumour, from one of the weekly celeb gossip emails, has it that they wanted him to do the Gene Hunt voice but he refused and this is the result. Probably bull but you never know, it is bloody terrible though - makes me cringe watching it.

Thought this week was slightly better than the first, couldn't take the bloke from Pirates seriously as a villain in the first. Probably watch it next week as well - hasn't really got any serious competition at that time for me anyway, wouldn't really care if i didn't see another one though.

I assumed they wanted him to do that accent so the Americans could understand him better. Anyone noticed they put a red telephone box in the middle of London. I haven't been to the London Eye, but is that box really there? I find it hard to believe. I expected them to do a shot with red bus in it at same point.

Awful series.

I gave up after the first episode but apparently one of the stunt women in this is Eunice Huthart who won Gladiators back in the 1990s.

There's at least one red box in the centre of London, just off Shaftsbury Avenue if remember right.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a140898/glenister-explains-demons-accent-choice.html

Philip Glenister has revealed why he opted for an American accent to play vampire hunter Rupert Galvin in Demons.

Speaking at the press launch for the ITV1 show, the Ashes To Ashes star said: "[Rupert] was written as a Texan originally and I thought b****cks to that - I'm not playing a Texan. They said I could play him as English, but I wanted to have the challenge of playing an American."

Glenister also revealed that his American tones gained the seal of approval Stateside. "It was quite funny," he laughed, "because they sent some of the rushes to Sony in New York and this email came back from them saying: 'Philip Glenister's accent is acceptable.'"

he should be kicking himself now

...they sent some of the rushes to Sony in New York and this email came back from them saying: 'Philip Glenister's accent is acceptable.'"

The wording should have tipped him off that it wasn't exactly good

The trouble is, if he'd done it in english then it'd just be Gene Hunt with monsters and no Quattro.

It's bad enough as it is. Semi watchable... ish..

Actually I think the main problem is the van helsing boy just complete lack of charisma non-entity. They needed a SMG or David Boreanaz to pull it off.

And this would be bad why?

Kinda shows how poorly laid out the basic premise is if they can let actors choose the characters background. I can't see Joss Whedon saying "nah it's alright David pick any accent you want. Can you do Welsh?".

And if by 'red bus' you mean the Routemaster complete with conductor, then you can just jump on a number 12.

I saw some of this whilst having my Sunday dinner and Dear God! It makes Dr Who look like the best sci-fi ever and that is pretty much atrocious.
The cast were horrific , the acting worse and I've seen more suspense in a Labour dictatorship budget speech.
Totally ripping off as much as possible and doing it rather badly.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Made me embarrassed to be watching. My problem was for a while it had me hopnig it was going to be something intelligent, with the demon complaining about Gene Hunt's attitude problem, thought cool this coudl go a good place with the hero gradually realising that they're racist and there are actually good demons, and they've become like they have because of the relentless hunting of them by the good guys. And then Mina, a woman who has had over 100 years experience of duplicity, gets cheesily hit by a heavy object despite being warned by the dialogue whats going to happen beforehand, and it just went downhill from there. Your in a library with a bomb with 15 mins on it, do you a) call the bombsquad b) take the bomb for a walk or c) go for a light read in the hope that in 15 minutes you will find the right book and learn how to diffuse a bomb?

It was dire I have to admit. But then to be honest there's sod all else on the box lately.

I've been forced to pay for Season 3 Battlestar galactica on DVD rental.
