View Full Version : Sharp LC46D65E
Does anyone have any opinion on or experience with the Sharp LC46D65E? Particularly looking for any info on how good it is at displaying SD, as for the time being it will still be used for this more than HD, and any information as to whether it is a good TV in general. Will probably add Sky HD at some point along with an Upscaling DVD player, but I don't have any gaming consoles and am not expecting to get one.
I do watch a lot of football and other sport, as well as movies, and have read that I might be better off not getting a 1080p set, but I have the option through a work affiliate scheme to buy this TV directly from Sharp for £599 with a 5 year warranty, which makes it by far and away the best deal that I can find for a TV of this size (indeed, it is better than most of the 42" models, which is what I was really looking for until I saw this!). I even get the opportunity to buy the BDHP21H Blu-ray Player for a further £99, which I'm not sure is worth getting as I've seen some mixed reviews.
Thanks for any help that anyone can give.
I bought a sharp 46" 1080p set (LC46XD1E) just over a year ago and am very happy with it. SD stuff looks great and whilst it lacks some of the newer functions (24fps) its perfectly fine imo. Whilst not the same model as yours, I expect its indicative of sharps builds.
TBH if you don't like it, I doubt you'd have ANY issue recovering what you paid for it if you sold it on.
Thanks for the reply. I've decided to go ahead and order it, as it seems a very good offer and a 46" telly fits in the exact space that I have available. It's replacing a 26" CRT, which doesn't even have a flat screen, so it's going to be a big change for me! Decided to pass on the Blu-Ray player as it has poor reviews for upscaling and will buy a decent upscaling DVD player instead.
Wish I could pass this on to the others in here, but I have to log into my company site to get the code with my own payroll number, so it definitely isn't an offer that can be freely distributed. If anyone else has access to a similar company scheme, it might be worth checking to see if you can get this offer - it is on until January 9th.

Hi
It looks like I get the same deal as you and can pick up one of these TV's for £599. Has your TV arrived yet? If so, can you tell me what the picture is like on an SD signal, as well as in HD?
Overall, are you happy with it or do you regret your purchase?
I'm really in two minds because I've read very differing views on the LC46D65E.
Thanks for your help.
Arrived on Monday and so far I've been pleased with it, although three days isn't enough to tell, in my opinion. My brother has a 40" Samsung LCD and the SD picture seems fairly comparable to that. The picture is miles better than my parents 26" Akura LCD (which is basically a Vestel). I know to accept that black looks more grey and that motion won't look as good on an LCD, and this TV doesn't break new ground - when I watched There Will Be Blood on DVD the dark scenes looked quite grey.
I don't have any HD signal to test with, but using the USB port to display my photos, the picture looks absolutely stunning - I've never seen my photographs looking so good, and it's here I can see how good the screen actually is.
All in all, whilst I'm certain there are better 46" screens out there, I doubt that you'll get a better one for £800, let alone £600. At the moment I think it's a bit of a bargain, but I definitely feel happier with the 5 year guarantee, which I don't think is available any more from Sharp

You have to calibrate the screen too, took ages to get mine just the way i like it and it really does help!. also you know you can buy warranty from sharps site Here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=287&url=http://www.sharp.co.uk/page/extendedwarranties) right?. I bought the 4 year one.

Sorry - meant that I got a free 5 year warranty rather than paid for. The free warranty offer finished last Friday.
I'm definitely getting closer to a picture that I like, adjusting settings slightly each day, but I also think that part of the adjustment is just with me. Going from a 26" CRT to a 46" LCD is a big change!
