OK, I've not really followed much tv for ages now. Fancy getting into a series this year. What new US series are coming out here on digital/cable his year and any decent looking British ones?
Anything that is good regardless of genre

To be honest, nothing has grabbed me this year at all. Writer's strike probably didn't help mind. My favourite genre is comedy, and can't think of a single show that's worthy of even a 5/10 or more :(

Might be an idea to give a rough idea of what type of shows you like, and how long since you watched anything, for example, The Big Bang Theory and Gary Unmarried I think are good comedys, and Chuck too, if you haven't seen any of them.

US I enjoyed Chuck and True Blood, UK I enjoyed Apparitions and Merlin, although I wouldn't call merlin best.

erm
I really like Big Bang Theory, Arrested Development, Weeds, Scrubs, Nip/Tuck, Californication and Earl.
I kind of enjoyed stuff like Firefly, Traveler and action/thriller type shows. I'm just rubbish at keeping up with them.

Personally at the moment probably my favourite shows apart from BBT are
Chuck (really recommend this show)
Gary Unmarried
My Own Worst Enemy (beware this has been cancelled)
Eli Stone (also cancelled but should have an ending)
NCIS
The Border
If you get the chance to watch any of those it probably wouldn't be a waste of time :)
Damages, 24 and Flashpoint are all starting in the US in the next couple of weeks too.
True blood is excellent, but don't think it would be everyones cup of tea.

True Blood.
Pretty much.
How I Met Your Mother?
I second this. It's a damn shame it hasn't taken off here as it truly is brilliant. Barney is the single greatest character ever created.
True Blood probably best show this season, and Sons of Anarchy in second place

I'd say SoA over TB, personally, but they're both very good.
Breaking Bad is worth a look. Only 7 episodes on S1, but S2 is going to be a corker if they're anything to go by.

Breaking Bad. Can't wait for the next series.
Burn Notice. Thought initially it was slow and hated the Orish bint, but has picked up really well.
Eli Stone. Watched the last 5 episodes back to back and like the build up to the Prophet status...

Watched the first episode of True Blood last night due to this thread and it was interesting enough to warrant getting hold of a couple more episodes. Will probably try and catch a SoA tonight too if I can.
Why is US TV so much better than ours? :s
Breaking Bad was probably the best new show I stumbled upon. At times it was so good it felt like watching a Coen brother film.
I love Breaking Bad and cant wait for the 2nd series. Also im loving Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles its awesome.
Fringe was the best new series for me of 2008, worth catching up with
I ment to start watching that but my personal planner on sky didnt remind me :-(

oh come on, it had like 1 or 2 decent episodes barring the awesome opening in the pilot. Massive disappointment for me..

I highly recommend Testess, kind of like Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia but even more gross.

Personally I was pleasantly surprised by Leverage to the extent that I had the pilot on my drive for ages before looking at it. Then went into a download frenzy to catch up with the eps.

Just finished up watching Sons of Anarchy - top show!
Is it true that Damages isn't on UK TV until the middle of the year though?
It airs in February (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7808123.stm) on the BBC (beware: that link contains spoilers).

You don't like 30 Rock?
EDIT: Of course it's not a new i.e. 08-09 show; I've only just finished watching season 1 on channel five.
