View Full Version : Hustle coming back?!?

I could have sworn I just caught the end of a trailer on BBC1 for a new series of Hustle with the actor who played Micky in all except the last series in it.

I thought this had been well and truly canned, buried and burnt after the appalling last series?

New series starts the 8th January (according to IMDB).

No Stacie = No Point

Very suprised it has come back at all to be honest, the last series was what two years ago now and in constrast to the earlier excellent ones, it was utterly awful.

Anyway, we shall see...

Well judging by IMDB it looks like:

Do we really need spoilers with cast changes on a show like this? Anyway:
Kelly Adams from Holby City and stuff: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1433549/ to replace Stacie.

Matt Di Angelo from Eastenders and stuff: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1738091/ to replace Danny.

I don't ever watch those sorts of shows so I've never seen them before.

Have to admit I'll miss Danny too :(

Just watched the first episode. Usual fluff, but a very enjoyable hour of TV. Being the trusting type I didn't see the twist coming :)

The two new crew members look the part; the girl is not quite as good looking as Stacie, but might have more moxie, we didn't see much of the bloke, but hopefully we will lose the arguments we had with Danny.

All in all looking forward to the rest of the series.

I agree with everything you say apart from..

the girl is not quite as good looking as Stacie,

I think she is better looking than Stacie, I managed to avoid reading anything about this so didn't even know if he was going to get a new crew. I am not sure about the decision to put Robert Vaughan's character in jail. Good to see Edie is back as well.

Each to their own. I will admit she spent quite a bit of time with that horrible black wig on which may have soured me a bit. Like you I managed to avoid all the spoilers so it will all be a nice surprise.

I still can't believe Eddie still hasn't learned. After all he has been through I wouldn't trust that crew with a pot of urine

I think it is on one of the digital channels, but as it isn't on one available through Freeview I can't tell you which. Or you could buy the DVD's, well worth it and if you use an affiliate you will help the forums as well.

Still time to give it another watch I think.

I think it might have been on the Hallmark channel but don't quote me on that. They have shown Spooks before (made by the same people who do Hustle) so it might show up on their again.

Lucky to flick over last night to see this from the start - always liked it.
The new bird is well tasty and last night she reminded me of Kylie Minogue for some reason.

Either way, tuning in again next week - might even turn up the volume ;)

Exactly the same here. Never seen it before, and my brother told me to catch it on iPlayer. Described it as "Oceans 11 in an hour" lol. Absolutely loved it and trying to grab the previous series now. Looks like Play (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=2) have the full boxset.

If you can get S1-3 cheaper than all 4 then I'd do it as S4 was utter :gag:
A US TV channel got involved with the show, moved it to the US, Adrian Lester was not in it (Mickey Bricks) and it was really poor.
To be honest I thought that would have killed it, but it looks like a relaunch for it has been a success judging by the opinions here, I thought it was pretty good as well.

How did he end in jail. Was it part of the last season??

No, they did a quick recap on what happened, he tried to con someone but got caught but there seems to be a suggestion that he did it on purpose as he has another mark in his sights.

Personally I regard the description of how Albert landed in jail with a bit of suspicion. We only have his word on what happened and it has long been established he will lie at the drop of a hat, see this episode for an example. What he was described as doing seemed a little bit out of character for Albert.

I do agree he is in there for a reason, not simply at Her Majesty's pleasure.

Watched this via iplayer tonight and thought it was pretty decent, apart from the ridiculous travel arrangements at the start that didn't get him into hot water (either the ship or the car). Don't miss the bloke from the old team at all and i agree that the woman is an improvement on the original, reminded me of Kylie as well after taking off the wig.

A welcome return i think.

Enjoyed this first episode and agree that the new woman is far better then before ( I didn't like her in Dexter either)
Agree with Hex...I also thought that the travelling from Oz to the UK was a little bit stupid.
I did enjoy the small part that Bill Bailey played though!

Although I think that Jaime Murray was better looking the new girl is rather nice. I thought that she was attractive when she used to be in Holby City as well.

As the for the show I felt it was quality entertainment and hasn't really suffered from losing two major cast members.

Great to see one of the most entertaining shows back on TV!

The new crew members seem alright too.

There is one little niggle though... I'm not at all keen on the overly beat up Hustle theme tune, the old one was classic stuff indeed - this new one, like the new Doctor Who theme appears to have been attacked by some idiot with a drum machine and too much time on their hands The Hustle tune is there but buried under a pile of garbage. Are people afraid that if a tune hasn't got a constantly driving beat behind it then it might not appeal to the youff market demographic thingy-me-bob...? :cuckoo:

To end on a more positive note... The Animated title sequence is very well done, excellent stuff.

First episode was pretty good, far better quality than any of the last series and more in tune with the whole concept of hustles.

Had to stop and rewind the opening scene in "Sydney", it was most definitely Docklands, specifically Harbour Exchange Square which is between Crossharbour and South Quay. Used to work there so it was easily recognisable to me, you even get a glimpse of the DLR in the background on the raised track.

A worthy note (if this has not been posted before,my apologies if it has :) ) but watch out for copies of Series One of Hustle on dvd (it has been corrected but some are still out there :( ) as they used the wrong master, the first series runs only 52mins and should have have a running time of 59mins approx, but please note what I have posted above.:)

On a similar note watch out for Series One on dvd of Life on Mars as well, as some of the music tracks have been replaced by other artists and not as Originally broadcasted on BBC1.

Just noticed the prices for all 4 series at the top of the page - best price is 27 quid, what a bargain.

I paid 40 odd quid for 2 series of Torchwood for the Mrs at Christmas....

Yeah even I worked out how they don't it this week and that is not something I do regularly. Good episode but I do hope we aren't seeing the signs of a romance brewing as I don't think it would work with the show. So I take it Albert is no completely out of the picture then with no appearance this week. Emma looked good especially in that wig.

It's from a film... I don't want to say which one cause it's pretty good and if you haven't seen said film that would ruin it. I'll spoiler text it... not that that will help you if you do want to see it and not ruin it.. Catch 22

Inside Man (2006) Jodie Foster and Clive Owen
It's also been in about 5 episodes of Jonathan Creek... if you watch Creek and that movie and still didn't get it then consider yourself daft :p

Good fun nonsense again tonight. I knew that Albert had something up his sleeve but didn't work out that the other cons tied in as well.

I must have nodded off, what was the prison con?

He put the money he made in an envelope which was found and the governor thought she had found a way to turn down his application for an early release, but on the front of the envelope was an address to a cat sanctuary and the prison governor is a big cat fan as Albert noticed when he was up in her office. It turns out that she was on the parol board along with Tim McInnery's judge and the shrink and they all left him go free.

Yeah, I saw that. But that didn't really scream to me "Great prison con, knew he had to be in there for a reason".

Didn't they imply at the beginning of the series that he'd intentionally got himself locked up to score a big 'mark'?

Getting yourself locked up just to get a few quid off your fellow inmates seems a bit lame.

More entertaining fluff last night. Nice to see Patrick Bergin back on the screen.

Slightly huge continuity error though, which made nonsense of the final 'twist':
When Emma was looking at Bergin's fake necklace the first time round, Pinky the terminator was standing right in front of her, looking directly at her, so it would have been impossible to switch it with the other one. But in the 'how we did it' flashback, he had miraculously vanished! :nono:

Other than that, good fun as ever.

I didn't think last nights was one of the better ones. Every series has a weaker episode and I thought last nights was it. I don't know if it was because they tried something a little different with the storyline but it just didn't work for me. The twist was nothing special and was basically a simple switch. Some of the characters were a little under used, only Emma and Michael were the ones that featured the most, are they trying to develop something between them ?

Yep coming back in 2010:
The con will be back on in 2010: hit BBC drama Hustle recommissioned for sixth series (http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2009/02_february/11/hustle.shtml)
The Hustle crew will be back on BBC One next year with an exciting new series, it was announced today.

The hit drama, from Kudos Film and Television in association with Red Planet Pictures, has continued to delight over five-and-a-half million viewers throughout the current series which finishes on Thursday (12 February 2009) at 9.00pm on BBC One.

It has been recommissioned for a sixth series by Ben Stephenson, Controller, Drama Commissioning, BBC, and cements its place as one of the channel's most successful and popular dramas.

In the fifth series Adrian Lester returned as Mickey "Bricks" Stone, who was reunited with familiar faces Robert Vaughn, as veteran grifter Albert Stroller, and Robert Glenister, as fixer extraordinaire Ash "Three Socks" Morgan.

Mickey also took two new apprentices under his wing; brother and sister duo Emma and Sean Kennedy (Kelly Adams, Holby City and Matt Di Angelo, EastEnders).

The new series will continue to follow the fortunes of the grifting gang as they con their way around the capital, a city riddled with financial troubles but teeming with greedy and amoral fat cats who are just ripe for the picking.

Hustle creator, writer and executive producer, Tony Jordan, says: "We are really pleased with the way that series five has been received, it's always difficult to maintain a drama's following when you've been off air for a period of time. Having a fabulous actor like Adrian Lester back in the fold has really helped.

"I've already got some great ideas for series six, so I can't wait to get cracking on the scripts."

Karen Wilson, Executive Producer for Kudos, says: "Viewers really enjoy the vibrant and fun nature of Hustle and we plan to continue with that into the next series.

"The current series has featured a great mix of old and new, with the staple classics of Robert Vaughn and Robert Glenister, and it's been wonderful to have Adrian back.

"And the new additions of Matt and Kelly have added a new dimension as well as an extra bit of glamour!"

Polly Hill, BBC Commissioning Editor of Independent Drama, says: "The success of the present series is testament to Tony Jordan's brilliant scripts, the remarkable team at Kudos and a wonderful cast.

"We look forward to seeing what 2010 will hold for Mickey and the gang."

Hustle is a Kudos Film and Television production in association with Red Planet Pictures for the BBC and executive produced by Simon Crawford Collins and Karen Wilson for Kudos and Tony Jordan for Red Planet Pictures.

The new series of Hustle will film in and around London this year for transmission on BBC One in 2010.

Have to say this is the first series I watched and really enjoyed it.
I understand the last series was a bit of a dog, but were the others this good as well?

EDIT - just did a quick look @ Radio Times (http://www.radiotimes.com/ListingsServlet?event=10&channelId=2049&programmeId=92656046&jspLocation=/jsp/prog_details_fullpage.jsp) and I see Virgin 1 is going to be showing the first series from Monday 16th Feb:

The Con Is On
Here's how Mickey Bricks(Adrian Lester) formed the gang of con-merchants back in 2004. It's always been as smooth as a glass-thin sheet of ice, and about as deep, too, but Hustle's strongly filmic style with freeze frames and actors addressing the camera looks as sharp as ever.

The fifth series wasn't the best because they tried something different throughout and it didn't really work. The other ones were fine so if you enjoyed this latest one, you will like them.
