Decided to move up from bulky CRT to a nice LCD HD TV.
Now that leaves a dilema with front centre speaker - Tannoy mxC, This is matched to front mx3's and rear mx1's. The front speaker has sat on top of the CRT. Now it is not going to be able to do that on the LCD :n0rty: and the space below on the unit has the AV amp.
Any suggestions to replace the centre or is it time to get a nice compact satelite speaker system?

It's not a good idea to mix and match surround sound speakers (using a different centre speaker for example) since they're likely to have a completely different presentation/dynamics. Are you not able to mount the centre speaker above the television?

Other than that, obviously budget comes into it if you plan to replace everything - my suggestion would be to make use of a good dealer who'll let you audition things properly. Compact speakers do tend to more pressure on the sub, compared to more conventional bookshelf or floorstanding speakers. Hence an audition in order to make sure it's going to give you the kind of sound that's acceptable to you.

Thank you for your reply. Not sure that astethically otherhalf would approve of a shelf in the middle of the wall ;)
Have not got a sub so have not crossed this audio dynamic yet.
Would not have a great budget, dependant on how much Tannoy's would fetch 2nd hand.

Well budget compact surround speaker packages start with the likes of the Tannoy SFX5.1 which Superfi (http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/3804) are doing for £146.76 delivered (in black or silver). So you ought to be able to make use of Richer Sounds pricebeat option (http://www.richersounds.com/information.php?cda=static&cst=pricebeat) and get them £136.76. They're likely to sound pretty different to your current set-up though (especially with the introduction of the sub as well as the main satellite speakers) hence the suggest to try and arrange a proper audition if you can.

The other option would be the ever popular Jamo A102 HCS5 (http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase1.3&prodID=B84533) speakers, or if they fit the other half's tastes one of the Kef KHT (http://www.kef.com/KHT/index.htm) packages.
