View Full Version : The Kingdom coming to R1
ABSound have got a doudle disc set of The Kingdom up for pre-order with a release date in March. It doesn't appear on any US sites (that's I've found) so it may just be a CAnadian release.
No more details as yet but lets hope this actually appears and also that is has subtitels for the Von Trier credit sequences.
EDited the title so as not to confuse the mods over there ;)
Oops I should have said that DVDBoxoffice also have it listed
Also can a Mod move this to the DVD discussion forum as my brain doesn't appear to be working properly

Are you sure it's not the fortcoming U.S remake?
I doubt it's the remake as that hasn't been made yet and this DVD is due for release next month
There are also a few copies up for pre-order on Ebay and they all state that it's the original series.
Lets hope we see some specs soon so I can get an order in
I've just bought mine from DVDoo in Denmark. It cost me around £32 for both DVDs.
Bish - do you have any specs on it and can you confirm if its both The Kingdom and The Kingdom II. If its both series for £32 then I might be placing an order myself. The region 1 pre-orders seem to be for the first series only.

The Kingdom DVDs offered at dvdoo.dk are the same ol Taiwanese import discs that have been available on ebay and selected other sites for quite a while now. ALbeit the cheapest offer I have seen from an eDealer.

I've not yet seen the full specs for the R1 set but I would imagine it is only the first series. The price at DVDOO is very good but I would still hang on to the R1 is released as it will be an essential purchase if they have subtitles the Von Trier end credit sequences.
It was £32 for both parts 1 & 2, part two comes on two discs.
I've just finished watching part one this afternoon all in one sitting (a whopping 278mins) and was very impressed, a really excellent ghost story.
Does anyone know where I can find a translation of what Von Trier says over the end credits?
If anyone is interested I’ve found out a bit more about the Von Trier speech at the end of part one. Didn’t have much success with search engines but found some useful stuff from Yahoo groups. Apologies if anyone already knows this but thought it might be of use to someone.
Kingdom 1 originally aired in Denmark in four parts, after each was a monologue by Von Trier. With the exception of the one for part four none of them found there way to the DVD.
Here is a translation of it:
Yes, the gateway to The Kingdom is certainly opening. Mary has gone home,
Judith has had her baby, plans have been carried out, and conclusions
reached. Yet it seems more like a new beginning than an end. Maybe this
troubles you. Maybe what we've shown you troubles you. Don't be afraid.
Keep your eyes and ears open -- and all we can do is try to scare you with
stage blood. It's only when you avert your gaze that we've got you. Behind
closed eyes is where the real horror begins. One simple, practical problem
remains. How are we going to get on with these people, these intrigues?
How is the history of The Kingdom to be continued? Everything points to the
same simple solution: use your head! [holds up the severed head] My name
is Lars von Trier, and I wish you all a very good evening. If you want to
see us at The Kingdom again, stay prepared to take the good with the evil!
The DVD I got from DVDoo for some reason only had the opening credits for part one and then later on part 3. As I’ve already said the only end credits we get are for the last part. I’ve found the monologue for the first part as well.
Here it is.
Dear Viewers,
Permit me as the credits roll to thank you for joining us at The Kingdom.
We started gently so everyone could keep up. But in the next episode much,
much more happens. For something seems very, very wrong with these
buildings -- and there are voices crying out. How often are you prepared to
hold out a helping hand? Often? Seldom? Never? This program is set in
the kingdom of the imagination. We can never approach the incredible world
the Lord created. The most inventive artist is but an ant at His feet. My
name is Lars von Trier, and I bid you good night. Should you be drawn to
The Kingdom again, be prepared to take the good...with the evil.
Shame the DVD didn’t have al the credits but lets hope the forthcoming release does.
