Does this guy have potential to be a cult figure or what? The next homer perhaps? i have been watching Futurama bs (cheers RINGOS) an the episodes he appears in have me rolling around in fits of laughter. I'd even go as far to say he is better than Bender
Zap Brannigan is great, a really funny character who's thick as crap but really cool at the same time :D
But he will NEVER and i mean NEVER be better than Bender, even the thought of such insolence should be met with a slap! ;) :D

Zapp is an absolutely hilarious character, who just gets better as the series progress. Look out for his rendition of 'Lola' in a future episode as I guarantee you'll be ******** yourself with laughter :D

I think the one character who has the ability to overtake Bender as being the funniest in the series is Dr. Zoidberg who frequently has me in stitches. Bender is definitely the coolest though.
Zap is very funny, also his combination with his sidekick works very well and betters his character.
I'm working my way through the S1 boxset and just watched the ep with the anchovies! Dr Zoidberg is great in that one!
Zoidberg kicks serious ass. I love his "apology dance", and have used it to great effect in the bedroom. Seriously.

I've only managed to watch the first episode of this (as it arrived at the office just today) on a computer DVD player and it seemed that whenever there was movement on the screen it was showing like half-frames (as in a mix of the previous and current frame transparently overlayed together). This isn't a problem with the discs is it, or is it just because I'm watching them on a monitor instead of telly?
TIA,
Didn't notice anything like that on my TV. Probably just your monitor?
Its because computer moniters are progressive while tv's are interlaced, and the interatction of serveral things which don't matter to a TV because of this. You'll notice this on a lot of TV show discs, like Buffy.
First, why does interlacing occur when the original source (drawn frames for Futerama, or film for Buffy) is progressive? Note that it doesn't actually occur in all scenes, but if scene is out, its out for the entire scene. Basically, the editing is done at the field level, not the frame level. So the order of whether a top field goes with the bottom frame before or after may change every scene, so essentially the source is interlaced, since the progressive pattern isn't constant, so its flagged as interlaced.
Now, onto the second part. There are essentially three ways computers can handle interlaced DVD's.
1) "Weave": Ignore that its interlaced and ouput progressive anyway. Leads to hideous "combing" on moving objects.
2) "Bob" Pretend that each field is a whole frame. This halves the vertical resolution and technically doubles the frame rate. Called Bob because if you look closesly at stationary objects, they bob up and down one pixel every field. Only really noticable if you look very closely at the credits.
3) No uniform name, WinDVD calls it "soft Bob". Here, u essentially take the "Weave" version but filters it to blur together the two fields. This helps maintain vertical resolution compared to Bob, and on a "true" interlaced source the time differential between two fields in only 1/50 sec pal, 1/60 sec ntsc, so the merge on moving objects shows more as a bit of blur then a double image. But on stuff like the above, the fields are an entire frame apart, 1/25 a sec, which really does show as double image.
Here ends the lesson :)
ps, the ntsc-pal conversion malarky slips into the above somewhere probably as well :)

Thanks very much for that explanation, Mr Nice, it clears up my worries as I was indeed using WinDVD and your explanation fits the symptons precisely. Cor lummee, I feel a right goon for asking really. :)
Glad it made sense to you :).
Get dvdgenie from http:/www.inmatrix.com if you havn't got it already. There you can enable "hardware bob" in winDVD, which is number 2 in my list, among other tweaks.
Just watched 'When Aliens Attack'

Class- how can Fox even consider cancelling this?

I'm pretty sure that Alec Baldwin based his whole performance in Pearl Harbour on the great Mr Brannigan!:D
