View Full Version : did anyone know there was a jap anime of the teenage mutant ninja turtles

i was searching on imdb and came across the title Mutant Turtles: Chôjin densetsu hen, i cant believe they made a jap anime of the ninja turtles, i've always wanted them to after seeing the poor american cartoon versions, did anyone know they made this?, why is it unheard of? aparently the film was made in 1996 and 9 people on imdb voted it 8.9

I'd be suprised if there was a specific made for Japan Anime of TMNT seeing as the original comics were American. That said, it's not unlikely that Japanese animators were involved in some way.

Theres also an anime series made by the japanese aswell, its like with Transformers, they japanese made it for the americans, but after the series finished for america it continued in japan for some time IIRC.

When TMNT first came about, it was a very dark, adult orientated comic. It was then adapted to be a childrens cartoon.

Hmmmm - I have the original comics!! I'd not describe them as dark and adult, though. Maybe anumsing and teen....

Are you thinking of the proper comic... the US black and white one by Eastman and Laird.

That was definitely dark and adult, no question.

i've not seen it, but there's a picture of it

I've got a B&W version and colourised versions of the same thing - Actually, looking at them again today - Yes they ARE darker than I remember them, but the further through the sereis you go the lighter things get. Much better than the TV series and films, I have to say....

However - does anyone else think that Frank Miller's Sin City would make a very nice film / anime?
