I was talking to my mate about J & Sbob teh other day, more specifically about MH. He was looking a bit worse for wear, and i was wondering what happened to the guy. it must have been quite humiliating to take a role like that. Is he broke or something, because I am pretty sure in teh same position I wouldn't want to take that role
:(
He was interviewed about it in Hotdog magazine, and for the life of me I can't find the mag :(
Hopefully someone with the mag handy will post, as I continue to search everywhere!
or maybe he actually quite likes Kevin Smiths work and wanted to take part in the film just for fun ?

mmm, I like KS work, but don;t you think this was a little demeaning?
no, i thought it was great fun, didn't seem to be demeaning at all.

well that's true, he hasnt really had a hit or anything but from i remember reading somewhere does he not make a nice living doing the voice of the Joker in the Batman animated series ?
It's just that, from the film i got the sense that he was really enjoying himself, usually you'd be able to tell if someone was doing a 'god i wish i wasn't here but i need the money' part
maybe the poor sod does need the money, after having a quick look on imdb.com i see he's taking part in the game Soldier Of Fortune 2. Hopefully, for his sake, it's for voiceovers rather than cheesy video footage.

As you said, I hope he is doing it because he enjoys it and not he is broke.

Bet everyone does. $£$£$£$£$£$$$$$$$$$
How can you dismiss the superb film Target Witness where partnered Mark Singer as two cops doing witness protection.
Highly recomended viewing especially when Mark Hamil gets garroted by the assassins bra.
Maybe he's just holding out for Star Wars EP 7, 8, & 9 :D

He was involved in a car crash which messed up his face. While his face was healing he started to do the voice over work which has now become his main gig.
He also very wisley agreed to apear in the intro's for the Wing Commander games for a cut in the profits of that or any future games or spin offs.
That deal made him millions! He even got paid not to be in Wing Commander the movie.
Every time I watch one of the original Star Wars Trilogy I always feel sorry in a way for Mark Hamill. He essentially played the character that was the hub of the trilogy, yet seemed to get the rawest of deals afterwards from a professional point of view.
Harrison Ford wasn't that hot an actor pre-Star Wars and yet he's done the best out of the original cast. That said he seems to have lost the plot with some of his more recent movies. Maybe Indy 4 will seem him doing the business again?
Carrie Fisher became famous at a young age, and by all accounts couldn't cope with it and resorted to drug abuse. However, she used that to her advantage in the end and wrote Postcards From The Edge, and now makes a living from rejigging problem scripts and other assorted movie/tv work.
Mark Hamill however has never really hot the big time and existed by doing lots of different things. Good to hear he made some money out of the Wing Commander games and the voiceover work. The only decent movie I remember being in that wasn't Star Wars related was The Big Red One at the beginning of the 80's.
Would be nice to see Hamill, Ford and Fisher given cameos in EP3, more so for Hamill. Recognition for former services rendered if you like.

Not just in the intro! Wing Commander III and IV contained more live action cut scenes then any game before or since, with multiple cutscenes with Hamill after every mission.

Many years ago I used to be a member of The Mark Hamill Appreciation Society, a fan club obviously. He had so much potential and always tried hard to get interesting roles. It's a pity his Luke Skywalker image hindered his career. Looked at some recent photos of him on ICQ after reading this thread and I was quite shocked at how badly he's aged, last I saw him was on BB when A new Hope SE was released.
I did loads of drawings of him in is prime but I'm sure I wouldn't be able to do a decent drawing of him now, the affects of his accident are really showing I think.

Last thing I saw him was in an episode of Steven Spilebergs Amazing stories (or something ilke that)
If I remember correctly, Hammils' story started off with a young kid who was always being told to tidy his room by his mum - he never did an hoarded everything he had - cut forward and Hammil is this old guy who wa a bit of a recluse, but it turns out he was a multi-millionaire - he had first editions of comics, action figures etc.
anyone else see this?
How can you say he never did nothing after star wars!! Having none of you seen Mutronics were he transformed into that Monster...amazing! :D
The best thing he has was his guest role in The Simpsons! - one of my favourite eps with Homer as Mayor Quimby's bodyguard :D

I thought Mark Hamill had the car crash after Episode 4, which is why he looked slightly disfigured in 5 (hence that ice cave scene which was written into the script).
Anyway, it would be cool if he actually played Anakin/Vader in Episode 3, although he probably isn't tall enough...

Also lets not forget his turn in Yorkshire based Sci-fi movie Slipstream.

He also appears in the 1993 horror anthology TV movie Bodybags. He plays a character who crashes his car and messes his face up.
Probably had to spend as much time in makeup as John Carpenter did to play the corpse-like coroner. :)
It's worth checking out actually, if only to play spot the director. I believe the surgeon who repairs Hamill's face is played by Roger Corman. Then there's Sam Raimi as a corpse in a cupboard, and a very odd appearance by Wes Craven.
Oh, and I love the Wing Commander Games and their B Movie cheesiness. As Blair's (i.e. Hamill's) commander said, "God I love that boy's spunk!"

Slipstream was pretty good.
Hamil also played a scientist in an "Outer Limits" ep, trying to bring his dead wife/girlfriend back to life (or her mind anyway).
There are hundreds of thousands of actors out there that will never be really famous, so to be known for *just* being the lead in the greatest (most popular) film trilogy of all time, aint too bad.
