Hi,

Building my first home cinema system.
Will go for the marantz 5200 for the amp.
Thinking of going for 4 b&w 601 s3 or 4 wharfedale8.1 for the speakers. The b&w would cost twice the price of the wharfedales.
Any advice would be wellcome.

Thanks

Listen to them both and then decide on whether the B&Ws - in your own opinion - are worth the extra.

Thanks Bapapapa for the reply.I have heard them both for a short while. The sound was different from the two speakers.I use my tv speakers so i could not quantify the sounds. Will get 1 pair of 8.1 and listen.Any other thoughts wellcome.

Thanks

The B&W's typically deliver a clear, unaltered sound whilst the wharfedales a generally accepted to deliver a warmer, more bassy feel. Therefore choice would appear to depend on your aims on adding to or upgrading your system. If you're thinking of adding a sub woofer or other main speakers to replace the TV ones I would suggest that spending the extra now would pay in the long run. The clear sound of the B&W's would be complemented by the addition of a decent sub.

Just to add some extra into the mix, have you listened to the Yamaha amp and Definitive speakers?
