Do the sets have to be exactly 2- discs?

I'd say probably around 25% of my collection (about 160 discs total) are 2 disc sets.

A few multiple disc sets too (eg. Alien Legacy, Godfather Collection, Toy Story Ultimate Toybox, etc.)

It does seem to be the norm nowadays that 'big' films are released as a 2-disc version, even if the content doesn't really warrant it. :(

Nine out of my 59 discs are 2-disc sets.

Perhaps the real question should be: How many 2-disc sets deserve or need to be 2-disc sets?

I have:

Armageddon: quite meager special features on disc 2, could have fit on disc 1 with slight loss of film transfer quality.

Fight Club: Enough features to warrant a second disc, though in bitty small multi-angle featurette forms.

League of Gentlemen series 2: A surprise, as it doesn't even state it has two discs, and doesn't list most of its special features. Better than squeezing it all on disc 1.

Magnolia: Needs the second disc, because a 3 hour film and an 80-minute documentary can't fit on the same disc.

Seven: the special features are forgettable and not that substantial, but I guess they need to be on the second disc. Disc 1 has great picture and 4 commentaries, and I'd hate for that to be compromised.

Silence of the Lambs: One of MGM's annoying "cardboard packaging, lets put the 1 hour documentary on a second disc and sell it for £25" releases.

The Phantom Menace: Totally deserving of a second disc, with all the tons of features.

The Terminator: Another of MGM's annoying "cardboard packaging, lets put the 1 hour documentary on a second disc and sell it for £25" releases.

T2:UE: Enough features to totally fill a second disc, excellent.

This is Spinal Tap: The 70 minutes of deleted scenes are like a second film, suit being on a second disc.

So... I have 10 two-discers, but only half of them need to be two-discers. The rest are money-making "special editions" that are just trying to look like more value than they really are.

I have Raging Bull 2-disc. That does not deserve a two disc set. What was the point of making it a two disc set?

23 DVDs inc 5*2 disc sets & 2 box sets

Although there were complaints about Braveheart being compressed too much for R1 1 disc, I thought with the R2 2 disc version they could have at least put more on disc 2

About 50 of my titles (total just over 500) are two or more disc sets. So that makes a pretty even 10%.

Now if I only had time to watch the films themselves, let alone the extras!

Bad Taste is the worst offender of the BS two disk 'special' editions.

Out of all these two disc'ers people own, how many of the extras on the 2nd disc do you watch ?

I for one, watch some films, and can just about manage the film, let alone the extras in the time I have to watch the films.

If I do have more time, do you not find alot of the extras, erm, rather pointless and just space filler ? ie Mummy and Mummy Retunrs ? Fair enough films, but did we really need an extra disc for both of them ?

I have 23 2 disc sets not including boxsets, out of 175 DVDs total.

I tend to watch the extra stuff ages after I get the disc, I'll watch the movie pretty much straight away, but well over a year can lapse before I get round to the features!! E.g. I've just finished the Snow White extras but haven't done Fight Club yet despite getting that in June 2000!!!
