My friends, I turn to your greater knowledge again. Basically, I have a PAL Analogue laserdisc which will only play without sound on a Pioneer CLD-315. It forewarns one of this in the manual and it's a 'like-it-or-lump-it' situation.

My Q then: does the Pioneer CLD-D515 play the soundtrack with a PAL Analogue LD or am I again stuck? If not, do any later players allow this? My sparse LD collection consists of music LDs which I do not expect to make it to DVD, so I need a player which plays PAL & NTSC and digital & analogue for each. Am I in luck or am I wanting the moon on a stick?

Cheers in anticipation.

My 925 player has an audio button on the remote for selecting the audio type (dig stereo, dig left, dig right, analog stereo, analog left or analog right) I'm sure my brother's old CLD1750 did this too, so I'm surprised that your 315 doesn't allow you to play with analogue sound. I assume that you've tried this on the remote?

The 515 'should' do this but I can't be sure as I don't have access to one (or information on it). All I can be sure of is that the CLD1750 and CLD925 can play analogue audio tracks. Sorry for the wooly answer but I can find some info on the 925 but almost none for the 315. The only thing I found that was remotely interesting was this (http://my.tele2.ee/max/dvd/315.htm) page, which lists the specs as including:

Analogue Sound Reproduction (PAL / NTSC)

but I can't be sure if that means analogue track playback or not. The only way to be sure is to see if the remote has an audio button and see if you can select an analogue track.

Good luck.

Thanks Fozzy, you've been a big help.

I've now had it confirmed that the Pioneer D515 DOES reproduce analogue sound for both PAL and NTSC, as does the superior 925, whereas the S315 gives only NTSC the repro treatment. I did mess about with the Audio button but, no joy.

I am returning my 315, purchased s/h on condition it played PAL analogue and shall be collecting a 515, so I shall enjoy Black Sabbath in all their glory. True, I'd like a 925 but unless I see one going very cheaply I can't really justify the extra lucre for my limited, albeit precious, collection.

thanks again for your time.

Enjoy, my friend.

I must dig out some more LDs to watch soon - probably due to watch my Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin CAV sets again ;)

And I really must watch A Perfect World soon - maybe that's one for this weekend.
