View Full Version : sky+ on 46pz81b :(
iv got a 46pz81b bluray is fantastic however on the other hand sky+ is really verry poor (grainy).
is there anything i can do to improve the picture quality for sky+ ?
thanks
How are you connecting the sky+?
Ultimately you get the best picture quality with HDMI devices, which unfortunately for your wallet means SkyHD ;)
it is connected via a scart lead
gold plated if that makes any difference lol
I have a pX80B & we've just had SKY+HD installed. HD is utterly brilliant but the normal sky stuff is in general worse than than watching using the sets own freeview receiver. Was quite surpised & a little disappointed by this. This is using an HDMI connection though.

Make sure the scart is in a RGB socket on TV and set the sky box to RGB also.
thanks read1976 but have already done that
i guess i will have 2 wait for sky hd to bring out many more channels as i dont have sky movies or sports i will not really benefit from there hd package

Also, SD content is going to look progressively worse the closer you sit. Make sure you don't have the sharpness set too high as it will over emphasise any grain.

There's something inherantly wrong there then as I have SkyHD into a 50PZ70 and the SD picture quality is very good.

As a side question, are you able to get your pz81 to turn on straight onto AV? I've got the 50pz81 and running sky+ via scart too. I've selected in the menu for the power on preference to be AV but it still goes onto the sets tuner every time I power on.

I'd be interested with any suggestions if that's the case Splobber cause it appears that way to the Mrs as well. It's an odd one really as we can't get all of the "muxes" on freeview (poor area) but the ones we get look really quite good. Obviously we get just about every channel going on sky but the SD ones do genuinely appear (although still very watchable) less sharp than the freeview. Not being sarcy at all but seriously interested if I canchange anything for the better.
How close is the OP sitting?
SD Sky CAN look pretty pretty good (depending on your expecations/perceptions naturally), although it does somewhat depend on your viewing distance and the actual content. Not surprisingly 'blown up' to a larger size is going to put more emphasis on lower bandwidth content (i.e garbage in = garbage out). However, my experience is that the same channel on Freeview does look better, certainly compared to Freesat (so I would assume Sky too).

I have the PZ rather than the Px , so don't know if you have the option to enter set-up and turn overscan on when watching SD, also have screen setting set to cinema
