I currently have the mission 702e and looking to upgrade to the mission 773e. I have the speakers pretty close to the tv. If I bought the 773es which are not magnetically shielded would it affect my tv pics? Or is it safer to stay to magnetically shielded speakers like the 702es? It is a shame the 773es are not magnetically shielded as they have some splendid reviews in mags and I also like the sound.
how close is "pretty close"?
I would have thought about a foot (30cm) should be fine.
If you have them too close, you're not going to have much of a sound stage (or so it seems to me).

try it and see....my non shielded speakers made the corners of the TV go purple, so u know that its gonna be a problem when that happens!

They will be a foot away from either side of the tv. I dont really want to buy them and then return them for this reason. Has anyone not had any problems with these speakers?

My non shielded floorstanders are only 2 inches away from the tv & they don`t give any problems:)

Toshiba 28ZDO6B 100htz tv & Acoustic Solutions AV 80 speakers.
I do get problems if they are any closer than 2 inches away from the tv.
When i bougt my speakers two years ago, I was concerned about the the shielding. In the end I went for AE Ageis Two's which are shieled, I'm quite pleased with them!
My Tannoy sub is not shielded its about half a metre away from the TV and doesn't have any problems!

I'm pretty sure the 702e are NOT magnetically shielded anyway, so if your setup is OK with them, then the 773e shouldn't cause a problem from that point of view.
What makes you think the 702e are shielded?
A foot away from the TV "shouldn't" cause a problem in most cases, but it will depend on the speakers in question and the TV itself (really it depends in the drivers in the speakers and how big/powerful the magnets are - usually the bigger the driver the more powerful the magnet, but that's not always the case).
However, unless you are sitting pretty close, then main speakers at around 5ft apart will generate a fairly narrow soundstage for most people. It's all down to the room in question as to which placement works best, but if you sat say 10ft away, even moving the speakers just another 1ft apart could give dramatic improvements in the soundstage. (then again, if you are only sitting five feet away........ :) )
As for those splendid reviews, they will mostly have been written with straight stereo performance in mind, not AV.
The problem with speakers is that in many cases you need to match up or balance them with whatever you currently have in terms of amp and sources.
Many people with a decent pair of budget speakers already, might find that more expensive speakers sound little better, and in some cases worse, than the speakers they have already, when they get them home. It's simply that the sources are unable to take advantage of the better speakers (if they are indeed better - I've heard some pretty ropey speakers in my time which cost a pretty packet, and some pretty good ones which cost little more than a good night out, so don't be too swayed on cost alone)
That said, the 773e certainly look nice with their aesthetic design and the real wood veneer gives them a classy feel which for the £200 Richers are charging, is hard to match anywhere else.
Personally I doubt they'd be any worse than your 702e once you got them home, but then I'm not sure they'll be appreciably better either. Also, you may want to consider a centre speaker swap at the same time, to the matching 77c1.

Thanks for your detailed and very helpful reply:clap: you allways help me out! I havent got a centre speaker so will be getting the 77c1 with them. I do sit away about 5m from the set so you are right could do with a bit more messing about with the soundstage to improve matters. Also the point about the 702es they are magnetically shielded!! Hopefully will have a look at them and see if I can pick up the entire pack of mission 77 series for 380 pounds from richers! Thanks again mike.

so if they are not shielded then that might explain the colour flicker on skintones I get then:eek: so I can go for the 773es with not much worries!;)
