View Full Version : BTTF .. Bad news possibly
Read this over at Dark Horizons
Video store clerks got an important call today, and 'Honest Abe' relays the bad news: "The much beloved and long delayed release of the Back to the Future trilogy on DVD will be delayed even longer. Apparently the July release date has been scrapped (expect an official announcement soon) because there simply isn't enough time for the marketing plan to be implemented. No future date has been set except for "next year"". :(

Exactly what "marketing plan" do they need ?.When people know this has been released, they will buy it.The internet tells people what they need to know, and extra pr is virtually unnecessary.

The Luca$ gags are getting rather worn now Baps, remind me just what has Lucas got to do with BTTF on DVD anyway?
has this ever been officially announced anyway?

jimmy_b - who's joking?
Maybe they need to get into the Delorean, go back in time, set marketing and production of the dvd's into motion a coupla years before they originally did and then we might get them for the Summer release.
Sounds like a lame excuse if it's true.

This Is A Joke.
Why doesn't everyone just calm down, the delay hasn't even been announced officially and it could only be a couple of weeks. Are you all terminally ill? Not too hopeful about seeing August 2002?
You have to wonder if announcing false release dates to get us all salivating is just a very cheap & effective marketing campaign. It's worked on me, anyway.
PS. Davester, love the sig. Can we rant about Herbert in the off-topic group?

to be fair to them, while guys and gals like us know about release dates and stuff, the common customer won't know about it unless a poster's been plastered over everywhere and for at least a couple of months.
but yeah, like Mozely says, probably just a sneaky marketing trick?!!

Agreed, but I am sure they could ramp up the ad campain quickly enough, but hey, obviously not. i was just a little frustrated as I have been looking forward to this set for a while (and they have had long enough to prepare). Also I may have to alter the sticky at teh top of the page!! :D
Oh well, they say the anticipation is the best part.
Mozley, cheers mate. I am sure Ono (another villa man and his piccy) would lend it to you as well. Pop into teh general we have the odd footie chat (about once an hour!!)

Maybe they could include the annual BTTF trilogy delay announcement with the queen's speech every christmas, should increase the viewing figures :)
Seriously I don't think they even need any form of marketing campaign, word of mouth alone would get they selling like hotcakes. Some simple adverts on telly, in Newspapers and at cinemas would be enough to inform who's left over about the release.

Surely the only official thing we've ever seen is "Summer 2002" in R4, from the Jurassic Park 3 DVD, which is December time over here.

A very good assumption, but the same trailer is also on the R2 rental DVD of Jurassic Park 3 too. I would assume that "Summer 2002" is the R1 planed release date. Just add the usual release delay and that might be a good guess as to the R2/R4 release.
Then again it might not.

It'll REALLY ****** off the Americans if R2/R4 comes out this summer, and they have to wait.
They dont seem to understand the "multi-region" principal.
