I have read that cat is leaving the film and possible rimmer. The script has many rewrites. I am a avid fan of red dwarf and like cat. I am looking forward to the film but if the guys who plays cat and rimmer is not going to be in. it won`t be the same !!!
I agree. Red Dwarf is as much about the actors as it is the characters and the storylines.

Well, no mention of it has been made in the forum on the Red Dwarf site and I'd expect them to react to this pretty quickly, so who knows.
What was your source?
For me its Rimmer that makes Red Dwarf, although to lose any of the original characters would cripple the programme imho.
Fingers crossed it doesnt turn out to be a big letdown, cos i think the last couple of series were certainly on the downward spiral.
Even if they're still going to appear, I don't have great hopes for the movie. The last couple of series have been very poor, in part because one of the original writers left (I forget which one?) and it's just not the same show anymore. Even if RD was at it's peak, I'm not sure it's possible to stretch it out into 90 + minutes, and keep it funny. Also, the humour kind of relies on the canned laughter and presumably they aren't going to have this for the cinema release?

Ditto, the seventh series was almost a film itself, in the way each episode followed on from the last, and for me this just didn't work. It lacked the punch of earlier series.
If Rimmer and Cat leave, then i don't see how they can even continue. -They are Red Dwarf.

Soberion , I read it in the latest Dreamwatch magazine. It just could be a rumour ? I hope they are still in it !!!
Moving to DVD and Movie Forum :)
They could make a Red Dwarf movie with just Rimmer and The Cat - but not one without these two!

hmm, don't know about that I think you still need Lister (so that Rimmer can insult him). The only person I'd be happy to have taken out of the film is Kochanski. As for Kryten he is a good character but the 1st series was good and din't have him in it.

yep, and the guy who left isn't doign the movie :(
can't loose arnie - it won't work without him. Also i guess it'll be focused to US audiences, so I don;t have high expectations.
