Hi,

I have just taken delivery of a Sony KV28LS35 TV...I was playing around with the different screen settings 4:3, wide, zoom etc. and it looked as though when there was a program on which was in 4:3 if I put the TV to wide, zoom or smart there was a loss in picture quality making it look a little fuzzy...is this right ?

just wondering...apart from that the set looks good and is now called 'baby'...

ps they also have this remote that you can operate different equipment with if you put in the codes...however the Mitsubishi VCR that I have is not listed in the list of makes...the codes start with 3 and are three digit...anyone hazard a guess as to whether there is one or not ?

cheers

A 4:3 picture will lose a little resolution due to the zooming/stretching. eg. Zoom into or enlarge an image in Photoshop and see what happens.

Remember 'WIDE' for anamorphic. 'ZOOM' for non-anamorphic.

sorry to butt in but a quick question:

I noticed that you mentioned that before and was wondering: does it apply to all tv sets? my tosh does have Zoom and Wide modes, but I don't change the mode when watching discs.

Zoom always seems to loose the top and bottom.

Yeah, it's the same for all TV sets. Most TVs auto select the correct mode anyway, but I'm just pointing out the correct modes.

If you ZOOM an anamorphic WS DVD then it'll be like watching on a 4:3 set but 'blown up' and people in the movie will look long & thin.

To demonstrate, stick an anamorphic DVD in the player and select 4:3 mode on the TV, notice it's all vertically stretched.

Now select ZOOM mode and the proportions will stay the same as the 4:3 mode, but it'll fill the screen.

Now select WIDE and it'll stretch the picture horizontally only, thus making everything look proportionally correct.
