My setup (modest as it is) comprises of:

a) LG3350 DVD player

b) 28" 4:3 Hitachi TV (using IXOS S-VHS lead from DVD player)

c) Videologic Digitheatre DTS (using supplied standard coax lead from Videologic to connect to DVD player).

My question is, given the relatively basic nature of the setup would I notice any improvement in the sound quality (from using the standard coax cable I currently use) if I connected the Digitheatre to the DVD player using:

1) A better quality coax cable

2) An optical lead

Thanks

Not in the slightest.

Nope, not at all, don't bother.

The bitrate of even PCM is quite low. Any old bit of tat will do the job perfectly.

Thanks guys.

So - why do people use better quality coax cables or optical cables?

Is it only worthwhile if you have very expensive home cinema kit?

It's the mug factor,a good proportion of people will be convinced they can hear a better richer sound from a £50 lead than they can a £5 one, thats why they make them.

Also most people know nothing(me included)about how it all works so they apply the "you only get what you pay for"rule:brickwall

Thanks for the info.

I guess I'll be sticking with my standard coax.

Cheers

Can i just add that i originally used a crappy Coax lead, when i got my IXOS one, i noticed a huge increase if performance. Look at my system, its a pile of crap!

Same as my QED SQUART lead gave me a huge jump in performance!
