I use my Macbook as a media centre, while I run most stuff off of an external hdd, I sometimes want to stream from my main PC.

Problem is whenever my TV is on, it blocks the wifi to my Macbook. It still displays full signal strength but its either very slow or nothing gets through. I have tried moving the macbook further away and there is significant difference event about metre away but still not good enough to stream files with higher bitrates.

I was just wondering if this is a common problem with LCD TVs? Since many people use media centres with wifi, how do they combat this?

I heard about using different wifi channels, but I don't think I saw an option on my router or macbook.

The channel ought to be in the configuration of your router somewhere (- your Macbook should then pick it up assuming it's set to scan for nearby wireless networks). If you still can't find it then post the make/model of it and hopefully someone can help ( - maybe a post to the computing would be in order otherwise). It would be worth experimenting with that. Otherwise, perhaps consider a change to Homeplug type networking rather than wireless.

Interference from a television sounds pretty unusual though - it more usually from things like microwave ovens, cordless telephones, other wireless routers and the like. Also, things with electric motors in them.

The only thing that I can think of that operates at GHz+ frequencies on the TV is the HDMI interface, if you had a poorly shielded/slightly broken cable it could be radiating more RF interference than it should.

Sorted it. Managed to find the Wifi channel setting buried in my router settings.

Works great now. Thanks guys!
