It says its the Ausie set, but I would assume (correct me if I am wrong) that its the same as the UK set?
Either way its the cheapest I have seen it, and they also have all 3 other seasons up for the same price, hopefully Season 5 will be along soon for the same.

I checked the devoted one including shipping & its seems a little cheaper ? (50 pence or so but it depends on the exchange rate you use of course - i suspect with a "credit card loading" its about the same unless you have a Nationwide card with no loading )

Just ordered S1, the wife and I loved The Shield, I guess this is similar, one thing though, my wife is not too keen on shows with sexual violence or nudity. Whats The Wire like is regard to this ?

I would think this will be fine. Apart from a couple of scenes in the first series in a strip club (background only), I can't think of any sexual violence and only the occasional bit of nudity.

There's a fair bit of nudity throughout, but it's not really gratuitous.

Does anyone know how long BangCD take to deliver? I want them for a Christmas pressie, but don't want to disappoint on the day if they haven't turned up! If they aren't going to be dispatched by December 19th at the earliest then I would not bank on getting them by the 24th as they will normally take between 5-10 days to get to you.

This is probably one of the only recent series where that shouldn't matter, as it was shot in SD 4:3 IIRC

Cheers OP. I've got the 1st three seasons and have enjoyed them, although I wouldn't rave about it as much as some. I lost interest halfway through season 3 and haven't got round to getting back into it. This price is as good a reason as any. :thumbs:

Only looked at the pages for Seasons 3 and 4 but they both say the release date is the 29th December. Hopefully they'll start shipping tomorrow. Or am I going to go a nasty shade of purple if I try holding my breath that long...?

That's changed then because it was 19th Dec. Even more of a reason why they should have sent a courtesy email. I'm not desperate for it, but I just hate bad customer service. Amazon always keep you informed...even if it is just an automated mail...& their business must be 100 times what Bangs is!

Even though you grabbed a bargain I would start at the first season and save watching the 5th season, it will still be the same bargain by the time you have made it through the quite stunning s1-4:thumbs:
Lucky bugger picking it up at that price, but even luckier to have not yet discovered the genius of this show! Grab the first season, you wont regret it

I know exactly how you feel. I bought the box set before it was even on TV in the UK, watched the 1st ep and really didn't like it (waaay too much swearing for my liking and I'm definitely no prude).
On a flight back from Thailand last month, 1st 3 eps were on there so I thought I'd give it another go and now I'm hooked. 1st ep is the weakest of season 1; it gets far better from ep 2 onwards (and I've now ordered S2 and S3 :)).
Final advice - don't put on subtitles, even if the gang lingo (or cop lingo for that) throws you. It takes away from the terrific acting and character interplay and also highlights the swearing etc. Turning it off you get all the bits you need to and can enjoy it properly.

I actually cancelled and ordered S2 as I found S1 is on Virgin on demand. Now watched S1 and it is very good although I wouldn't say S1 is the best thing ever - I personally enjoyed Deadwood S1 better (although S2 & S3 went downhill) but Deadwood is certainly not for those who find swearing offensive as it's very strong and frequent.
Still very much looking forward to the Wire S2 turning up.
Oh and Nick's bird in season 2 has the finest breasts in television history.

I'm near the end of S1 and had difficulty keeping up with some of the dialogue and the character names - didn't know who they're referring to most of the time. However, it does get clearer the more you see...
I've only got one ep of S1 left and the last couple have been awesome.

I get the impression that they'd like lots of us to cancel as they will take an age, and it might posibly cost them, to fulfil these orders.
I'll certainly not be rushing to order from them again, should have paid the extra fiver to get them from amazon.
Although I will still hold out for my order I still think it's a bit of a joke that they took the money straight away and that there has been absolutely no communication from them since.

The problem with their poor customer service is that this is my first experinece of using this ocmpany and whilst they are £5 cheaper than elwhere else I know then I will hang out for it but if others drop their price I will get a refund and the chances are I will never bother with these jokers again.
I bet they've been a victim of their own sucess as is the standard line these days for incompetance. If they don't have stock don't take the orders.

I wrote and asked them exactly that and was told -
"Kindly be informed DVDs VAT customs duty will be absorbed by us."
Granted that was a year and a half ago, and I have rarely used them, but I think it should be safe. I think they dispatch items separately anyway, and also I think they either post from the UK, or a "safe" place, like CDWow.

I've just has the first season delivered today. Once it finally got despatched, it came very quick from Singapore. I ordered season 4 as well so they obviously send the items separately. This will let them slip under the customs radar. They do have a customs slip on the box with the exact amount paid listed.
Got Season 4 delivered today. Great bargain and well worth waiting for. There's 780 minutes of my remaining life sorted out!

Not a huge deal but do these ones come in an amaray+slipcase package like the later R2 releases?
S4 doesn't have the slipcase, don't know about the others.

Just watched the first 3 episodes and must say I am dissapointed, I find the speech hard to understand, slang and all that, I will stick it out though as everyone loves the show and I dont want to be the odd one out. ;)From several articles I've read - you're not meant to get the slang at first, but you will over time. They didn't want to dumb it down and spoon-feed viewers.
My S4 arrived today out of the blue as I didn't receive a dispatch email but I'm just glad it's here now. Thanks to the OP again.

Mine finally appeared the other day only for season 4's discs to have been scratched to pieces in the post. In fairness they've sent another set straight out but it does feel like I'm never meant to see beyond s3 at the moment.

I had the subtitles on and still miss most of the slangs but it gets a bit better as you get into it.
