View Full Version : Laser disc player. Where?
Any ideas where i can get a laser disk player from apart from auctions. Want to get the star wars trilogy(think i will need to get ntsc versuion to get 5.1?), taking to long to come out on dvd.
Also what's quality like compared to dvd.
Any idea which is the best model to get and where to get from?
Cheers
The best model I would recommend is a Pioneer CLD925 which has 5.1 output and is pal/ntsc compatible it also has the facility to play both sides of the disc without getting out of your chair. As far as the SW Trilogy goes the picture quality is much better than video, but not as good as DVD but the sound quality is amazing. The best place to find one is on Ebay for approx £200 with discs. I have the same model from new I would never part with it, an excellent piece of kit all round.
Good Luck

I also have the same player excellent bit of kit, paid around £500 new and got the NTSC boxset for £80. There are other excellent movies that you can get in DD which still haven't come out on DVD.
Remember your amp or whatever needs a RF input to decode the DD signal from a LD player.
The Loot sometimes has the odd player in.

You could try Videotec in Oxford - 01865 245566. They have been supporters of laser disc for many years, upgraded my Pioneer CLD2950 to AC-3 and they are one of the few places that sell RF Demodulators (which you will probably need unless you have an oldish amp).
And the SW trilogy in glorious 5.1 is awesome (but then you knew that anyway).
