View Full Version : Blu-Ray bargains at the cinema!
Went to Vue today (the Cribbs Causeway one) and they have some large vending machines there where you can buy DVDs, Blu-rays, Games, and even download stuff.
They had a few blu-rays in there ranging in price from about £8 upwards.
I bought the "Wanted" steelbook for about £12.80
I'm sure this can't be the only Vue with these machines!

wow, that's cheaper than a large popcorn isn't it? :D
Some Odeons have 'em.
I got the Creepshow 2 disc SE in a slipcase outta one last year (I think) for four quid.
Looks like a trip to the flicks is on the cards
even download stuff.
!
 So you mean once youve been in to see the movie, if you liked it that much you can buy a dodgy dvd of it straight away?
Whatever will they think of next.
Just a quick heads up on this. I picked up the extended cut of The Patriot on BD last night for 8.87.
More information (locations etc.) can be found here:

I went the other day again, and bought Superbad (2 disc) Blu-Ray for £8.odd from the machine in the lobby. [Cribbs Causeway Vue]

Interesting idea, and a good/reason excuse to save all those coppers and loose change up. :D
Unfortunately, there isn't one near me.

SO how exactly do these machines work? do they post the items to you?

Yeah just it's just like the snack vending machines - you stick your money in, enter your details and the mars bar you were hankering after arrives in the post a week later..
WAT!?

I'm picturing them being like a food and drink machines. Insert your money, punch in a code, then machine drops the film down a shoot.
Looks like they've got one near me. I'll check it out next time I go!
Psycho
Yep
1/ Choose film,
2/ pay,
3/ out comes the film.... simple!

Looking at the locations in Scotland there is one in Edinburgh, VUE at top of Leith Walk and further afield one in a Homebase in Falkirk. A "No prize" to the first person who pursuades their place of work to get one installed next to the Coke machine!
Noticed one of these machines when I was at the Vue cinema at Cheshire Oaks the other day. Didn't go up to it and look at the prices though, as i assumed everything would be overpriced...like all things at cinemas.
Will give it a closer look next time I'm there.
Got one at York Vue picked up a couple of bargains. Manager was there and said it was only Universal titles as thats who really owns the machines.
Dont know if its true or not but thats what he said.
Looks like Sony titles too as those mentioned above (Superbad, The Patriot) are Sony.
Thanks for this, was over at the westfield this lunchtime and nipped over to the VUE and picked up Wanted on BR for £12.80, very tempted to cruise past on my way home and get ghost rider for £8
Is it still the steelbook?

The Cinema at Ocean Terminal (Edinburgh) is also a VUE cinema, I will check it out tonight and see if they have a the film and goodies vending machine.

Had a look at the Preston one the other week, nice idea and decent prices but just a very small selection. Had about 10 movies for under £9 though

My mate was there today and asked if it was the (Wanted) steelbook version and the bloke checked the stock and said it was "just a normal plastic case". :?:

Had a quick browse in the cinema, prices ranged from £12.80 to £8.80. Can't remember specific prices always but not a bad deal on any of them really,
Patriot £8.80
Open Range £8.80
Hancock £12.80
Mama Mia £12.80
Spiderman 3 £12.80
Superbad £8.80
Wanted £12.80
Might be a few pence out on the prices!

Damn! I missed Open Range. Looks like I'm going back...
tpr007: I'm gonna go and have a look at Cribbs... do you have to pay for a ticket first?

No you don't...they are in the foyer of the cinemas and you can just walk in and have a look
Cheers for the post, I checked the one at Reading Vue after seeing Slumdog Millionaire yesterday and got Hellboy II for £8.80ish. Was the last one in there though, as I went to buy one for a mate and it wasn't appearing as a choice anymore.

I wonder if Pineapple Express BD would be in one of these machines. My local one wasn't working 'not ready yet' apparently...

Vue Worcester has the same deals. I got Wanted for £12-ish (steel book) and Hellboy II for £8.80. Pineapple Express was there but it wasn't cheap - about £17.80 I think.

Cheers Rollocop, Might visit this Saturday.
Picked up Superbad Blu-ray and Hellboy 2 dvd for a little over £17 from Vue Pilsworth. Thanks OP :)
Was going to buy Hancock last night after seeing Slumdog Millionaire, brilliant, but couldn't tell whether it was the 2-disc version. Can anybody confirm if it is one disc or two? Cheers

???... The VUE in shepherds bush isn't in the westfield, its over the road... and who would he ask to check the stock... its a vending machine?
The Duty Manager at the cinema told my mate that they re-stock the machine themselves.
I don't live / go there so I didn't know if the Vue Sheperd's Bush was in, on, under, next to or across the road from the Westfield (I just knew they were building one inside the complex but I guess it's not open yet).
It looks like the BDs are all 17.99 out of these machines now :(
I was going to buy another title out of the one in the Odeon (MetroCentre) lobby last night but they were all 17.99.
Saw one of these vending machines when coming out of Alice in Wonderland at my local Vue. Practically all the Blu-Ray's were £9.99, including District 9, Moon and Terminator Salvation (Plenty others too, but was in a hurry). DVD's were cheap as chips too, with most being around the £5.99 mark for recent films and DVD's like Superbad and Knocked Up were £2.99.
Pretty impressive, given that the same Blu-Rays were twice the price at HMV just around the corner.
